The place was very clean, spacious and quite. Just what I was looking for. Alvern was very kind and welcoming, we did not see each other much but she made sure I felt home, and I did.
Great house. Very accurate description and easy walk to train station. Cobh is a great city!
Alvern offers a nice and quiet accomodation directly situated at a bay of the Atlantic, not far away from the Rushbrooke Station ( 6 minutes walk).
To the Cobh center you need about 15 minutes walk along the sea shore or along the street. It's a clean accomodation with a big citchen, which you can use to make your staying more comfortable. The big garden, outlooking to the bay, offers the opportunity for a rest.
Alvern was very accommodating with me when I had to adjust my check-in at the last minute. She remained open, friendly, and generous during my stay. She went out of her way to provide high quality ingredients to supplement my meals (I'm speaking specifically about a type of muesli which I grew to absolutely love and now miss).
I was provided a tablet/laptop for personal use for the duration of my stay - that was QUITE nice, and reflective of Alvern's willingness to provide an exceptional experience.
The house is very large, and very warm. Alvern keeps a "cool room" that avoids the direct sunlight, which she uses as storage (for example, for bananas, so they don't ripen within a day).
As I recall, there's no cable connection for the TV, but Alvern has kept a charming movie collection and so was able to entertained myself on two occasions where I was restless but the town had shut down.
True to Alvern's word, the house is a short walk from the center of Cobh, and quite close to a train that can take you into Cork city. If you plan on visiting Cork from here, I emphatically recommend you USE THE TRAIN. Driving to and parking in Cork was one of the most distasteful experiences I've had in a very long time.
All in all, a great room, and a great experience.
I had a very nice stay at Alvern's home in Cobh. There are great views over the estuary, and it's a nice walk/cycle/drive to the centre of the town. Alvern was really hospitable, and I had use of the kitchen. All in all, a super stay for the week.
