The Space

Very charming alcove studio belonging to a local designer -- furnished with mid-century / naturalist decor, a sleek kitchen with modern appliances, stacks of wool blankets, a cozy patio, and all the comforts of Portland living. Be OK with cats as I have a very friendly Sealpoint Birman who is low mantinance but loves a good cuddle.

Readily available street parking in a quiet neighborhood just off of Alberta Street which offers great food and coffee and all the rad parts of Portland life.

One of Portland’s oldest neighborhoods, the Alberta Arts District has seen a revival as a thriving community with a diverse blend of cultures. Spend the day getting familiar with the many coffee shops, galleries and independent art studios, as well as fashionable boutiques and top-rated restaurants. Visit on the last Thursday evening of any month to experience the street-party atmosphere of the neighborhood’s art gallery walk.

Guest Access

Guests have full range over the studio as well as their patio and shared laundry facility.

Interaction with Guests

I tend to let guests have as much space as they need, often with just a quick hello and shake of the hands. I also leave helpful maps, magazines, and guides to the neighborhood and Portland metro area.

The Neighborhood

Though my street is quiet and calm, I'm just a block away from a street filled with activity.

Getting around

Bikes are the best way to get around the neighborhood! I'm just down the street from a great rental shop.

  • Such a wonderful and charming space. I already recommend it to my friend is visiting Portland in August. Bowen gifted us with a bottle of wine and beer, fruit and even coffee which we enjoyed. I was afraid of being slightly allergic to Birch but nothing happened. I was able to enjoy him sleeping on my chest in the morning with his relaxing purr company. We loved our stay.

  • Amazing place with a home like feel as soon as you walk through the door. Great location, walking distance to many different places. And of course birch the friendly host. If I go back to Portland I will try to stay at bowens again.

  • The Alberta Arts Studio was wonderful! It's a five minute walk to a great neighborhood with tons of local shops and great food. There are also lot's of buses which make it easy to get downtown and around different areas in Portland. The studio itself is super peaceful and relaxing. It's beautifully decorated, cozy, and Birch (the cat) is an adorable and friendly host. Thanks Bowen! :)

  • Bowen was away, but we had easy access to the apartment.

  • My friend and I stayed at Bowen's apartment for a quick city vacation. His place is cozy, clean and inspired (I might actually steal some of his design ideas). His cat, Birch, is the friendliest creature you'll ever meet. The place is located right in the heart of the happening Alberta Arts District with very easy access to great restaurants, pubs and galleries. Bowen was a great host and his communication was quick and clear.

  • One of the best stays I've ever had in Airbnb. This is what airbnb is all about. Bowen is super helpful and his apartment is amazing. . Obviously has a good eye for decorating. Made my trip with my wife to Portland very enjoyable.

I'm not really a cat person but Birch changed that. Coolest cat on the planet period. Wanted to take him home.

Would love to stay here again next time I'm in Portland.

  • Not only was Bowen's place the best, he was too! His studio is absolutely adorable and close to so many awesome places in pdx. I was also lucky enough to share a drink and great conversation with Bowen and his friends. Best host ever? I think yes!

I'm an art director and set stylist for film and photography. I've got a cat named Birch and a lust for the outdoors. It shows in my home which is a cozy cabin-like place with a rustic decor and collections from my frequent wanderings.
