Peaceful, private room with own bathroom available. 2 windows overlooking the front yard and north side of the house. Nice breezes. The bedroom is at the end of the hall, and the bathroom just off the hallway next door.
The house has hardwood floors, two fireplaces, a full kitchen, wireless and a big food garden instead of a lawn. My former lawn is now a thriving food garden.
Kid and senior friendly. I have an 3-year old, who runs around and plays. She awakens early, so sleeping in is not really easy. Do you like kids?
There is a large, sunny redwood deck in the private backyard, perfect for yoga.
Downtown Ojai is an easy twenty minute walk. Bring or rent a bike from a shop (50$ per week, Ojai Bicycles). You can store it in the garage.
Ojai Valley, "Valley of the Moon," is a serene, peaceful place. Ojai has the feel of a small American town, but has a hip culture, complete with exceptional local food and interesting people. You can slow down here, enjoy the sunshine, or hop on a bicycle and cycle past orange trees. Or if you like to cycle, ride down the bike path to the beach 13 miles (20 km) in Ventura. Santa Barbara is also a serene 40 minute drive north past Lake Casitas on the 150. There are many easy or challenging hiking trails, starting 5 minutes away in the Los Padres National Forest. Get a massage at a spa, take a yoga class at Lulu Bandhas, play tennis for free downtown, visit the Raptor Center, or try out the super restaurants.
There is a lively art scene downtown, including live music, and many different types of workshops. If you like bookstores, visit Bart's Books, or if you want to see a unique library, visit Krotona Library and explore the beautiful grounds. Or visit Meditation Mount on the full moon (or any day) to get a fabulous view of Ojai Valley. There are many festivals: the Ojai Film Festival, Music Festival, Lavender Festival, the Writer's Festival... Or get more involved in the community by and volunteer to plant trees, remove non- native vegetation in Libbey Park. There is an amazing Farmer's Market every Sunday from 9-1pm that features a lot of local produce.
My neighborhood is quiet, with lots of birds and kids. The neighbors keep and eye on things and are interesting, though rarely seen!
I 'm traveling less these days, but professionally I have a PhD in Political Science. For the past decade I've worked on educating citizens for active, democratic citizenship in emerging democracies around the world. I'm an avid outdoor person, volleyball player, swimmer, hiker, yoga practitioner and am interested in sustainable living. I look forward to lively discussions and to meeting you. I speak fluent German and welcome the opportunity to practice my Spanish!
Topa Topa is quiet neighborhood with lots of folks waking dogs and kids playing
There is a trolley that stops on block away every couple of hours until 7 pm. You can walk downtown in 20 or ride a bike in 5 minutes to restaurants and shops.
Other Things to Note
Sorry, no pets.
If you hike or walk in the garden, please take off your shoes when you come in the front door. I prefer guests to be shoeless, but I'm not a stickler if your shoes are clean.
No pets due to bad experiences with dogs peeing inside. I'm sorry, as I love animals!
The house is handicap friendly, e.g., no stairs. It's all on one level and easy to navigate. However, the doors are not wide enough for a wheelchair.
I am a returning guest with Suzanne and I know why: I love to stay at her place! The room is quiet, a beautiful sundeck for Yoga or just to hang out. Suzanne is very accommodating and easy going.
Thank you for making me feel so welcome, Suzanne. :o)
Suzanne (and Savannah!) were both delightful hosts and very welcoming, accommodating, and relaxed about sharing their space. Their home is in a lovely residential neighborhood in Ojai, and is a very peaceful and relaxing space. Plus the oranges are great!
What a wonderful nook in the heart of Ojai. Very cozy and comfortable. I arrived after a long drive and Suzanne welcomed me to her Eco-friendly home. It's exactly as described. I melted into one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. I woke to the sounds of birds chirping and the playfulness of little Savanna getting ready for school. You'll want to rise early and take advantage of the sun deck in the backyard. There must of been a dozen different birds singing their morning song.
The shower had great pressure and the water felt soft as rain. Overall, I loved this stay!
I loved my stay in Ojai, which is sooo quiet and sweet. Suzanne was wonderful to hang with (such a bright heart!), and her three-year-old daughter seems awesome, too :) A really lovely home.
Suzanne and her daughter were wonderful hosts. They were riding bikes outside when we arrived, and her daughter is so sweet and adorable! The room was very comfortable and there was a great blanket and comforter that kept us warm. The deck in the backyard is so cool, with an amazing view of the Topa Topa mountains! Suzanne picked fresh oranges from her tree for us for breakfast, and gave us recommendations for town. Overall, we had a great time staying at the fruit tree, sunshine & garden home!
Unfortunately, Suzanne’s neighbor is a vocal homophobic and transphobic bigot. I was publicly shamed and othered by her for being who I am as a gender fluid person, after her young son came outside and asked me questions about my gender. Queer people beware, don’t park in front of the house next door with the lawn and the tire swing!
Suzanne and her daughter greeted us as soon as we arrived! They live in a lovely neighborhood near downtown highway and close to many awesome hikes. The listing page was very accurate and Suzanne is an excellent resource for local recommendations. Even though our stay was short we really enjoyed Ojai and look forward to coming back soon! I definitely recommend this spot! :)
Close to center of Ojai. Host was easy to chat with and place was quite comfortable.

I'm outgoing and interested in life. Professionally, I research young people's political attitudes and skills (PhD in Political Science) and like discussing current affairs, political psychology and life's big questions. I've seen quite a bit of the world, and choose to live in Ojai (plus British Columbia and Mexico for a month or two a year). I turned my yard into an organic farm! Orange, apricot, plum, tangerine, fig- lots of fruit trees! I'm into a sustainable lifestyle. I like yoga, fresh local food, gardening, playing with my daughter Savanna. I like to swim and to hike, play beach volleyball, and to ride my bike. Current heroes: Gandhi, E.O Wilson, LBJ, those who made the Arab Spring happen, environmentalists and my friends.
