About This Listing
Peaceful, private room with own bathroom available. 2 windows overlooking the front yard and north side of the house. Nice breezes. The bedroom is at the end of the hall, and the bathroom just off the hallway next door.
The house has hardwood floors, two fireplaces, a full kitchen, wireless and a big food garden instead of a lawn. My former lawn is now a thriving food garden.
Kid and senior friendly. I have an 3-year old, who runs around and plays. She awakens early, so sleeping in is not really easy. Do you like kids?
There is a large, sunny redwood deck in the private backyard, perfect for yoga.
Downtown Ojai is an easy twenty minute walk. Bring or rent a bike from a shop (50$ per week, Ojai Bicycles). You can store it in the garage.
Ojai Valley, "Valley of the Moon," is a serene, peaceful place. Ojai has the feel of a small American town, but has a hip culture, complete with exceptional local food and interesting people. You can slow down here, enjoy the sunshine, or hop on a bicycle and cycle past orange trees. Or if you like to cycle, ride down the bike path to the beach 13 miles (20 km) in Ventura. Santa Barbara is also a serene 40 minute drive north past Lake Casitas on the 150. There are many easy or challenging hiking trails, starting 5 minutes away in the Los Padres National Forest. Get a massage at a spa, take a yoga class at Lulu Bandhas, play tennis for free downtown, visit the Raptor Center, or try out the super restaurants.
There is a lively art scene downtown, including live music, and many different types of workshops. If you like bookstores, visit Bart's Books, or if you want to see a unique library, visit Krotona Library and explore the beautiful grounds. Or visit Meditation Mount on the full moon (or any day) to get a fabulous view of Ojai Valley. There are many festivals: the Ojai Film Festival, Music Festival, Lavender Festival, the Writer's Festival... Or get more involved in the community by and volunteer to plant trees, remove non- native vegetation in Libbey Park. There is an amazing Farmer's Market every Sunday from 9-1pm that features a lot of local produce.
My neighborhood is quiet, with lots of birds and kids. The neighbors keep and eye on things and are interesting, though rarely seen!
I 'm traveling less these days, but professionally I have a PhD in Political Science. For the past decade I've worked on educating citizens for active, democratic citizenship in emerging democracies around the world. I'm an avid outdoor person, volleyball player, swimmer, hiker, yoga practitioner and am interested in sustainable living. I look forward to lively discussions and to meeting you. I speak fluent German and welcome the opportunity to practice my Spanish!
Topa Topa is quiet neighborhood with lots of folks waking dogs and kids playing
There is a trolley that stops on block away every couple of hours until 7 pm. You can walk downtown in 20 or ride a bike in 5 minutes to restaurants and shops.
Other Things to Note
Sorry, no pets.
If you hike or walk in the garden, please take off your shoes when you come in the front door. I prefer guests to be shoeless, but I'm not a stickler if your shoes are clean.
No pets due to bad experiences with dogs peeing inside. I'm sorry, as I love animals!
The house is handicap friendly, e.g., no stairs. It's all on one level and easy to navigate. However, the doors are not wide enough for a wheelchair.
The room is nice and clean, although not as big as the picture suggests. The bathroom was comfortable and clean and had complimentary shampoo etc. Suzanne was welcoming and showed us around the house and gave us suggestions on where to eat and what to do in the area. The only thing is that her and her daughter's bedrooms are just next door which means you really feel that you are staying at someone's house i.e. limited privacy. Overall though – not a bad experience!
I have had the best little stay here at Suzanne's place. Her home reflects a great openness and warmth that she no doubt carries beautifully within the world. I felt so welcomed here, and was able to rest so deeply. Waking up this morning, I went into her backyard to greet the Mountains and the Sun....and had myself a super delicious mulberry snack along the way :) Thank you, Suzanne !
Really enjoyed my first airbnb experience at Suzanne's. I loved her taste in decor, especially the textiles on the walls! The room is cozy as described and the bathroom is spotless clean. The bed is so comfortable that I fell asleep in no time! The neighbourhood is very peaceful and quiet but her location is very close to downtown Ojai.
A lovely room in a lovely home. This place is quite close to downtown Ojai (within walking distance) and we enjoyed our spotless accommodations.
I had to move my reservation bay day the day I was supposed to arrive and Suzanne was understanding and accommodating. The room was comfortable with 2 windows looking out at Suzanne's pretty gardens that surround the house even an orange tree. The neighborhood is right under the Topa Topa mountains. You step out the door and there they are beautiful location. It took me only minutes to bike to a trail head of great hike. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was convenient and private just outside bedroom door. I didn't get to interact with Suzanne and her family much, but this was because of me I was tired and busy, but Suzanne was very laid back and I felt at ease in her home. savannah her daughter is an adorable pixie that made a welcome sign that was on door when I arrived. Suzanne's parents were visiting and her father was kind fun man offered to pick up dinner for me. I wish I had had more time to hang out and talk with them.

About the Host, Suzanne
I'm outgoing and interested in life. Professionally, I research young people's political attitudes and skills (PhD in Political Science) and like discussing current affairs, political psychology and life's big questions. I've seen quite a bit of the world, and choose to live in Ojai (plus British Columbia and Mexico for a month or two a year). I turned my yard into an organic farm! Orange, apricot, plum, tangerine, fig- lots of fruit trees! I'm into a sustainable lifestyle. I like yoga, fresh local food, gardening, playing with my daughter Savanna. I like to swim and to hike, play beach volleyball, and to ride my bike. Current heroes: Gandhi, E.O Wilson, LBJ, those who made the Arab Spring happen, environmentalists and my friends.
