One (or 2 private rooms) available, private bath with shower. Also, the whole house is available to sublet for the Christmas holiday, Sat Dec 22- Sat the 29. Hardwood floors, two fireplaces, a full kitchen, wireless and a big food garden instead of a lawn. Want to be on the cutting edge of urban farming? Taste fresh fruit and vegetables out of what used to be a lawn? My former lawn is now a thriving food garden. I offer an organic breakfast with seasonal fruits from my garden when possible. Kid and pet friendly; I have an 18-month old toddler, who runs around and plays. Large, sunny redwood deck in the private backyard, perfect for yoga. For an extra fee, I will lead a yoga class before breakfast on the deck. Downtown Ojai is an easy twenty minute walk. Or bring or borrow one of my two bikes (there are also bike rentals downtown if you need more).
Ojai Valley, "Valley of the Moon," is a serene, peaceful place. Ojai has the feel of a small American town, but has a hip culture, complete with exceptional local food and interesting people. You can slow down here, enjoy the sunshine, or hop on a bicycle and cycle past orange trees. Or if you like to cycle, ride down the bike path to the beach 13 miles (20 km) in Ventura. Santa Barbara is also a serene 40 minute drive north past Lake Casitas. There are many easy or challenging hiking trails, starting 5 minutes away in the Los Padres National Forest. Get a massage at a spa, take a yoga class at Lulu Bandhas, play tennis for free downtown, visit the Raptor Center, or try out the super restaurants.
There (email hidden)ly art scene downtown, including live music, and many different types of workshops. If you like bookstores, visit Bart's Books, or if you want to see a unique library, visit Krotona Library and explore the beautiful grounds. Or visit Meditation Mount on the full moon ( or any day) to get a fabulous view of Ojai Valley. There are many festivals: the Ojai Film Festival, Music Festival, Lavender Festival, the Writer's Festival... Or get more involved in the community by and volunteer to plant trees, remove non- native vegetation in Libbey Park. There is an amazing Farmer's Market every Sunday from 9-1pm that features a lot of local produce.
Sunset Place is a quiet neighborhood with lots of birds and kids. My house is kid friendly and I'm home a lot taking care of my 15-month old toddler. Pets who well trained and good with toddlers are welcome too.
I 'm traveling less these days, but professionally I have a PhD in Political Science. For the past decade I've worked on educating citizens for active, democratic citizenship in emerging democracies around the world. I'm an avid outdoor person, volleyball player, swimmer, hiker, yoga practitioner and am interested in sustainable living. I look forward to lively discussions and to meeting you. I speak fluent German and welcome the opportunity to practice my Spanish!
Suzanne was such a gracious host, and the bedroom and bathroom were spotless. I slept like a baby and would come back in a heartbeat. Thanks for making me feel so welcomed!
I was staying with Susan for 2 nights. She has a beautiful home with a very comfortable bed. When I fell asleep, I didn't move all night, just slept. I knew she had a child, but the baby woke up at 5:30 am the first night. Luckily she slept til 6:30 the second night. I didn't arrive each night until 10pm, and I left by 7:00 so not a lot of interaction. It was a little cold at night, but an extra blanket fixed that. The bathroom and shower are fantastic. Susan and her daughter are very sweet and lovely.
I loved staying with Suzanne. Her home is beautiful and very relaxing, with a gorgeous back yard, a very comfortable bed, private bathroom, clean and inviting, and most of all, she gave me such a warm welcome into her home. I felt completely at ease to come and go on my own schedule at the same time that I felt welcome and at home, and that is a rare mix! Her house is a very pleasant 15-20 min walk or 5-10 min bike ride to downtown Ojai - you can rent a bike for $50/week at Bicycles of Ojai by the way - great service there too. I loved the whole trip and would stay with Suzanne again any time.
Suzanne's house has a very friendly open atmosphere. Suzanne is very easy to get along with and she has a very alive 2.9 year (ALMOST 3!) old daughter. Suzanne made us feel at home and we had access to everything we needed to make our stay easy and comfortable. We shared some food she made for us, that was so lovely. We had several cozy evenings around the fireplace, and on the first day she made us a super food shake with coco.
We had our own bedroom and bathroom, lots of closet space.
We got up early most of the mornings so we were in harmony with their schedule. I can highly recommend Suzanne, especially if you like: interesting conversations, healthy food, gardening, fireplace (that is in wintertime), and having children around AND SINGING!
It feels like a home away from home, thank you Suzanne for your warm and welcoming spirit! Abhi and Sagar
I really loved Suzanne's place, it is truly beautiful and in a great location in Ojai. I really enjoyed getting to talk to her for a couple of hours and get to know her.
We stayed just one night but getting in and out was a breeze and the house, room and bathroom were all clean and welcoming. Thanks, Suzanne, and we hope to meet you next time!
Lovely, friendly and clean! I needed an affordable place to stay while in town for a friends wedding festivities and Suzanne's house fit the bill. Its in a quaint neighborhood and close to the main drag of Ojai.
Suzanne was a great host. Her home was clean and comfortable. Everything was just as described. She was also very accommodating to my weird schedule as I was very busy with wedding activities. Suzanne was very friendly, great place to stay!
I have the fondest memories of Ojai because of Suzanne, and her immaculate, beautifully kept home. Spacious, clean, calm, welcoming, well appointed, warm and comfortable in every way - from bedrooms to bathrooms to the decking out the back, long dining table, books, and the rocking chair my friend kept gravitating to after long days out in the sun! We walked the orange groves, biked along the big, quiet back streets, ate so very well, and savoured every moment of this truly lovely little part of the world. Suzanne's edible garden was especially welcome - those tomatoes!! Suzanne checked in to make sure we'd arrived safely, and I found communication with her throughout the whole process really assuring. Sincerely hope to be back for a longer stay next time.
Are you ready to fall in Love? Suzanne and her sweet 2.5 year old Savana are lovely to be around and couldn't be more welcoming.
The house is in a convenient part of Ojai, a short walk or drive to the main downtown area or hiking trails. The private bedroom and bathroom are so clean and there is a big closet to keep your belongings so you feel at home and organized. Suzanne cleared a little space for me to keep my things in the fridge, and I really appreciated her kitchen and its good quality health conscious cook wear. You also get a nice balance of your own space a lot of the time, because they are busy working and going to pre-school or playing outside. If you're in Ojai for a long or short stay and you enjoy the sweet sound of a child playing in the yard, you will be happy here.
