About this listing

The space

We have two single rooms for rent in La Serena, Chile.

-Common bathroom and
-weekly cleaning.
-English and Spanish spoken.

The house is located in Villa La Florida, a middle class suburb with small shops and minimarkets where you can buy food and spirits.
The city center is about 10 minutes by colectivo (shared taxi) and you can get to the beach in about 20 minutes using this means of transport, which is the most popular. Among this colonial city’s sights and attractions are Elqui Valley (said to fill the visitor with its cosmic energy), and its small towns and villages where vineyards are grown and pisco is made; a many miles long beach linking La Serena and the port of Coquimbo; various restaurants specializing in fish and sea food; museums; several churches; astronomic observatories open to the public; arts and crafts fairs; the bohemian Barrio Inglés in Coquimbo, etc.

Your hosts are Guisela (mother), a qualified translator, and Izaura (daughter), a teacher of English, so either of them can interpret for you to help you communicate with local people and/or give you Spanish lessons.

Guisela was a wonderful host! Her house is just as described and very clean. She was very kind to accommodate me and my friend on very short notice. As mentioned in other posts, Guisela's house is not within walking distance of the city center, beach, or other tourist spots. This is no problem, just know that you will have to pay colectivos (shared taxis) 600 - 800 pesos depending on the time to get to many places. Highly recommended!

Older but orderly house, my room was roomy and bed was comfortable. Local collective taxicabs come around nearby and often, easy to get around.

My short visit at the home of Guisela Parra Molina was both pleasant and educational. This was my first visit to Chile, and the opportunity to stay in the home of a native and permanent resident was most appreciated. Guisela is entirely fluent in English, and she was a great help in directing me to stores and helping me find my way around town (a wonderful bonus for me and greatly appreicated!). Guisella's house is located in a typical middle-class Chilean suburb of La Serena, so if you're interested in learning what typical middle-class resident life is like, this is the perfect place.

I had a very agreable stay at Guisela Parra Molina's place in La Serena, Chile, 3-6 december 2013. I enjoyed to have talks with her in both Spanish and (her perfect) English. I highly estimated I could use her PC. The house is clean and comfortable, and includes the shared use of kitchen and bathroom. The neighbourhood is safe and quiet, with some shops on walking distance. To reach city centre, mall and bus station there are very frequent colectivo's (shared taxis along fixed routes) which cover the distance in 10-15 minutes. In short: a recommended place!

The photos of room and bath are exactly what I experienced - cozy, charming and tasteful. Guisela could not be there due to an emergency but she made sure everything was taken care of, such a lovely host, thoughtful about EVERYTHING, checking in to make sure all was well. Staying in La Flordia just outside of town was also an excellent way to learn about daily life in Chile. Recommended!

Room is as described, clean and comfortable and the area feels safe. Not quite in the city but with very easy access to collectivos that go around the clock so you'll be anywhere downtown within 10 minutes of walking out the door. Guisela and her daughter (and Lupe the cat) are great hosts with excellent English and very cosmopolitan experiences so conversations were great. Also, coffee is better than typically in Chile which made my day! Recommended!
