The house is really big and master bedroom is absolutely wonderful! Six of us spent there 4 night and we enjoyed every moment. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone.
This house is great. You feel like you're in a magic space, with a triangular roof. The house is full of functional supplies. You're out on a large property with plants all around. Gail invites you to check out her farm. Sleeping in the master bedroom is real nice.
We stayed (two couples) at the Ocean View home for 4 nights in January.
Things we loved:
- Gail and Greg were great and we were thrilled to get a bunch of organic produce from them (they are farmers)
- Large house including kitchen
- The table on the lanai was perfect for dinner, playing cards, or just hanging out
- Very comfortable master bed (the guest bed wasn't bad either)
Things to consider:
- It is a drive from Hilo (closer to Kona), but good access to the more remote beaches (Green Sand, Honomolino, Punaluu) and the volcano. If you're looking for quick access to sandy beaches, look elsewhere.
- Although it says you get the full house, when we were there they had 2 WWOOFers (volunteers who work on organic farms) living downstairs. They have a separate entrance, were quiet, and didn't bother us, but if you want to use the hot tub nude it's something to consider.
- We paid to use the hot tub (not a big deal since they probably only warm it when used), but it was only a 2 person tub which made it impossible for all of us to enjoy.
Things that could have been better:
- The place wasn't super clean (we found junk under the bed and it smelled a little musty).
- The shower in the master bathroom is difficult to access (low ceiling).
- There were no beach towels on-site.
All-in-all we had a wonderful time and would recommend the place for the right group.
This is the first time we went to big island and it was wonderful. Their place is so big and the house is so unique. We love that we can see the stars very clear at night and it pretty close to the green sand beach and south point. But really far away from hilo. So I really recommended if you pick kona airport instead hilo airport. Would love to come again someday! :-)
We stayed at Greg and Gail for one week. The house is great and Gail and Greg are very nice people. They made us feel at home and welcomed us with open arms. Gail was very helpfull, telling us about all the nice activities in the area. Greg furnished us with a lot of organic vegetables and fruits which were amazing. There are 2 markets near the house which has everything you need, and activities are not that far from the house.
If you are in vacation in the big island we recommend you this house for sure !
Thanks a lot to both of our hosts who arereally great people.
This is a great place for us.and Gail is so kind.i would like to recommend to everybody.also I would translate in Chinese 地方很棒，房东很贴心，这房子适合一大家人或几对朋友居留
This is a really great property, the communal rooms and master bedroom are very big. There is a great view of the ocean from the terrace.
Greg was really friendly and helpful. There are laundry facilities, wifi, and a big library of films and programmes to watch on the TV (netflix).
We chose the location because it is in the middle of the Kona-Airport and the Volcano park. You should be prepared to drive a lot, there is not much around like restaurants or city life, but a supermarket with lots of choice is nearby. In combination with the well equiped kitchen you could enjoy cooking.
We had a great time at Gail & Greg's house. It was huge, had amazing views and was in a very secluded location (good and bad). Gail was also very helpful with giving us pointers on where to go on the island and also helping us out with snorkels so we didn't have to spend money renting/buying some. The only issue we had was with mosquitoes; but given the dense vegetation around the house, this was expected.
The house is bigger and better than the pictures suggest. Inside was well appointed and clean, and outside was gorgeous. We especially appreciated the extra space, well labeled kitchen and two bathrooms. The location is solar water heated, so make sure you give the water enough time to get to your shower through the pipes. We had three cloudy days but the shower was generally ok. If you love hot showers and you're coming during a time with a lot of clouds, don't be shy about talking to them to turn on the water heater.
The thoughtful hosts gave us our space but were very responsive with AirBNB questions.
Near Honaunau, Ho'Okena, South Point, Green Sand beach and the Volcano reserve, this location was great for seeing the south of the island. Unfortunately there aren't many nearby restaurants so be prepared to cook or drive out to one of the bigger cities. The good news is they're close to a few grocery stores and for most people that's probably enough.
