This 1800 square foot, 4 bedroom custom cedar home can sleep 8 and is kid friendly. Great for a couples, families and even a company retreat. Located in the most southern part of the Big Island between Kona Airport and Hilo Airports, you can access both the west and east side easily.
Features include Internet, "smart TV" with Netflix, full kitchen and utensils, lanai with ocean view, vaulted ceilings, lots of parking, a stage area for meetings, twin and queen and king beds, all linens. Laundry on the premises. There is a picnic area and a small meeting room on the property.
Relax and unwind from the stress of daily life. Swim in coves where large honu turtles laze. Picnic and snorkel at secluded black and green sand beaches; Kayak through coves and marvel at the sea life visible through clear blue waters. Hike the Kahuku Forest Preserve, nearby Volcanoes National Park or wander through the breathtaking botanical garden in Hilo. Don’t forget to visit the local farmers markets and shops where you can find the freshest produce and unique gifts to create great meals and memories. After a glorious sunset, stand on the deck under a crystal black sky as the constellations unfold above. If you want some excitement, we are equidistant from the charms of downtown Hilo and the surfing beaches and nightlife of Kona. Other attractions include Kealakekua Bay, coffee plantations, macadamia nut farms, the Buddhist Temple in Wood Valley, and Captain Cook Monument just a beautiful 30-60 minute drive.
We live just 4 blocks down the street and are accessible for any needs you might have. We also participate the farmers market in Keauhou so there are plenty of fresh veggies available for sale.

Interaction with Guests
We do not live on the property so if schedule permitting we meet them on arrival. We are just down the street if needed for any issues that may arise.
We are out in the country with lots of room for families and groups at the Ohana house. There may be country noise, dogs, cats and wind.
You need to rent a car at the airport for island transportation.
No Smoking in the House. Ashtrays are provided for smoking on the front lanai.
Laundry room is for guest use only.
Please park in the upper parking area.
Water is on catchment, please use as needed.
Clean up BBQ area after use, this prevents bugs from coming to dine with you!.

Generally our experience was very positive. Our hosts left the keys on the table and the doors open when we arrived. The house was clean and organized and well stocked. The garden was fantastic and the grounds were well kept. The deck and barbeque were great. Our hosts responded quickly to all questions within a couple of hours via email.
We didn't know about the hot water being solar heated but when we ran out of hot water and contacted Greg he was quick to tell us to turn on the electric hot water heater.
When we made the reservation we didn't know that there would be people living downstairs on the main floor. They turned out to be very quiet but we would like to have known we were above a rented main floor.
Another factor that is beyond the control of our hosts is the neighborhood dogs. They kept us awake for a couple of nights and when I mentioned it to Greg he dropped off some wax earplugs. That was thoughtful but having a neighbor right beside the house who raises wild pig hunting dogs was problematic and could be considered offensive if you were a dog owner. The dogs were kept in very marginal conditions and therefore they barked and howled and cried a lot. We have dogs ourselves and we have rescue dogs so we are sensitive to the living conditions of canines.
The location was beautiful on an acreage at about 2000 ft above the sea.
The highway along the west coast is very winding with speeds averaging about 40 mph. We arrived in Kona in the late afternoon and by 630 it was dark. It took us about 90 minutes to reach the house on a challenging drive after a long flight.
We loved the Island and plan to return but would look at someplace closer to Kona.
Greg and Gail are very welcoming and friendly hosts. We stayed for 12 nights over Christmas break and they were there to help us out by suggesting great snorkeling spots, lending us the snorkel gear and a guitar. We also visited their farm for some fresh organic veggies. The house is big yet quite cozy. The master bedroom bed is king-size and very comfortable too. Eating breakfast each morning out on the deck surrounded by the beautiful garden and all the birds and geckoes was a treat. Their are farm-workers who stay on the lower level. They were very quiet and also helpful when we locked ourselves on the deck. A lovely spot and a good location to base yourself from to visit some great beaches that aren't jam-packed with other tourists and a nice drive to the volcano park. Thanks Greg and Gail.

This place is a GEM. Such a beautiful home in a quiet country location. We comfortably stayed with 6 people, and could easily have fit several more, all with beds! Great communication beforehand as well.
We 100% recommend paying the $20 for a CSA box from Gail and Greg's farm- SO much delicious farm-fresh food. Greg and the woofers staying below (who were respectful, friendly, and quiet) gave us some phenomenal suggestions for places around the area we never would have found on our own. Incredible view, and good location- 15 minutes from an amazing coffee shop, 30 to South Point, etc. Cool discoveries all around, like the macadamia nut trees, edible orchids (YES, this is a thing), and lilikoi growing ON THE PROPERTY.
And, with a reasonable cleaning fee ($75 vs the $250 we found on most Hawaii listings), can't be beat.

Es ist mit allem ausgestattet, was man so braucht. Abends kühlt es sehr schön ab, so dass man sehr gut schlafen kann und man kein AC braucht. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis stimmt, man muss aber wissen, dass man sehr weit Weg von den Attraktionen entfernt ist und viel Autofahren muss. Auf Big Island ist das wohl aber sowieso notwendig. Wir bedanken uns herzlich bei Gail und wünschen alles Gute.
