The space
HVAC, windows, and kitchen flooring were recently updated. This is an original rustic log cabin built in 1907. There are multiple steps to approach the front door and steps from the kitchen to the main living area and bedroom. The loft is only accessed with a ladder so experience cabin living like Laura Ingles. For little guests, the host can provide a toddler bed or bassinet upon request. Check-in is easy with a digital smart lock. For safety, the fireplace has an electric insert with heat and an ambient flame and is controlled by a remote. The river is easier to see in the winter when trees are not in bloom. Otherwise, views are limited from the cabin. If nature and being in the wilderness is not your thing then this is probably not the experience you’re hoping for. It is recommended to wear bug spray anywhere around the cabin in the summer because the river, humidity, and warm conditions bring out the mosquitoes.

Other things to note
The rock steps pictured lead to the front door which could be challenging for some guests. Guests should consider their ability to climb the uneven steps before booking.

Smoking is not permitted in the cabin; no exceptions.

This cabin is positioned on a quiet street and guests are expected to respect neighbors. Keep music and noise to a respectful level. Parties are prohibited. Gatherings more than the number of guests booked for the reservation are not allowed.

Guest should note that there is one parking space to the right of the cabin marked with a sign, “Kirkland Cabin”. One other small vehicle could park on the street but should move off the road as much as possible and may not block the street. Cabin owners are not responsible for the towing cost of any vehicle improperly parked on the street.

We are born and raised Kentuckians. Laura grew up in Lexington and Chris grew up in a town adjacent to the Red River Gorge. We enjoy our family on a little farm close to the cabin in south Lexington. Chris is a local youth pastor and Laura is a licensed real estate agent in the state of Kentucky. We love the cabin because it is so peaceful to get away from our busy lives and visit the quiet street where it seems time stands still.
