Upon arrival, Cathy was not there. She had advised me she was out of the country on vacation and her daughter would be there to greet us, and she was, but she did not appear to be very knowledgeable, but she was very nice.
Let me be very clear to those of you coming from the States, and anyone who normally would say at a Hilton or Marriott property. Although the Asian is nice, it is not as advertised. The unit is advertised as a two bedroom, which is what I was expecting and what I needed. In reality, it is a one bedroom with a pull out sofa sleeper, a very small bathroom, almost too small to blow-dry your hair, there is very little water pressure in the shower it is so bad I had to rinse my hair in the kitchen sick to get all the conditioner out. The one bedroom is actually a large studio with a curtain separating the bedroom from the living room. The kitchen as a small very small fridge, but the bathroom is very nice. As advertised the studio is just that a very small studio. The drive from San Diego to the unit is very easy do not follow the complicated directions; just take the 1D all the way down, you will pass two tollbooths on your way. Pick up the directions once you get to La Mission. Excuse my poor spelling; it is not my strong soot. Now for crossing the border back into the states, that is hit and miss. It took us an hour and a half to go less than a half of mile, when the lane next to us speed right on through. Good Luck!! All and all for the price it is a nice place, however, until there is AC and the mold problem is under control I will not be going back. I will not be going anywhere south of the border unless it is to an all-inclusive room service, full service, I do not have to lift a finger resort that has AC. Cathy was great, she provided me all the information I asked for, scheduled and cancelled all the reservations I asked for, and oh ya, even took care of my insurance, but her daughter forgot to collect. Do not worry I will send her a check.
The reviews are spot on, this is the best deal on AirBnB. I got a chance to see all three units and the pictures are true.
Cathy and her family are nice and helpful. Cathy is as good as TripAdvisor, always willing to help direct you to places to make your trip enjoyable. For the outdoor adventurers, horseback riding and zip lining was fun.
It's a beautiful home RIGHT on the ocean with a semi-private beach. So even if you do nothing but sit on the beach or patio, it'll be the best vacation ever.
There are plenty of restaurants a 2 minute walk, so you really never need to drive. But if you want to venture into the city, then Rosarito and Ensenada are about 30-45 minutes away. We stocked up on groceries before we crossed the Border, but found a Wal-Mart off the highway in North Rosarito. Most everybody takes USD and Credit Cards, so there is no need to go to the currency exchange.
If this is your first time driving down to Mexico. San Diego Airport is about 15 minutes from the border. You'll need to get Mexican Car Insurance, which I just got from the car rental place for $28/day; about the same as the car. If you're driving your own car, you can find some agents that will sell you temporary insurance for about half.
We drove down on a Friday morning, so we just went right through without even being stopped. We drove back the following Friday afternoon and it took about 1 hour to get back across the border. If you're driving back during popular hours/days (I'm told Friday/Sunday), then I would plan for 3-4 hours. From the San Diego airport to the house it's about 60-90 minutes + time to get across the border.
Hablo muy pequeña Espanol. But I was able to get by with very little (and bad) Spanish that I have learned over the years. And I even learned/improved my Spanish skills :)
Bottomline, I highly recommend this listing and will be back again! My advice is, book early because good things don't last long! And then sit back and relax for the best vacation ever.
Our trip was amazing! Cathy was a fabulous host like a friend you were going to visit that wanted to make the most out of your stay! She greeted us with treats, showed us around, and booked horseback riding and a massage for us. Her home is beautiful and only steps down to the beach . The directions and advice for restaurants and things to do in the area she provided are spot on. She even printed other directions for us when we wanted to venture further out on an adventure to a ziplining and canopy tour. Great location and fabulous host!
Cathy is a wonderful host. She was extremely helpful with the entire baja vacation experience. Very knowledgeable about the area and all it has to offer. The place is beautiful and the beach has pretty good surf right below the house. Great bars and restaurants walking distance. Safe area. Wonderful experience. Wi definitely be coming back
Cathy was a wonderful host! Her communication, and driving instructions made the border crossing and getting to their piece of paradise in Baja clear and simple. We really enjoyed our stay in the Asian suite. It was perfect for our family of 4, plus dogs. We all loved the location, with walking distance to restaurants, and steps to the beautiful beach, made a convenient stay. Cathy had boogie boards for the kids to use, and they made good use of them from sunrise to sunset! Beautiful location with clean clear water beach, and lovely family/ pet friendly accomodations! Thanks Cathy!
Cathy is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. She makes the trip down to Mexico a dream. We feel so privileged to have met her & are so thankful for her attention to detail as well as heartwarming gestures. Our stay in Mexico was absolute perfection!
Outstanding host, a most beautiful place. Maybe the best short vacation I have ever taken. I recommend highly.

About the Host, Cathy
It's one of my greatest pleasures to welcome guests to Casa de los Arcoiris! This area of Northern Baja is so lovely and so calming and relaxing that, when I first visited, I fell in love with it - and I'd love for you to experience the joy of being here, too. When a friend told me about this home, I flew down from the San Francisco area - saw the property on Saturday, and bought it on Sunday! Then I spent over 5 years in renovation and remodeling to turn it into a first class inn where I would be happy to stay! It took a lot of work and a lot of time, but it was so much fun and so rewarding to see it all come together - and now to hear people tell me how much they enjoy staying here is a real pleasure. I'm proud to be told that this is one of the best appointed, cleanest, and friendliest places to stay. I truly believe each guest should have the best, most enjoyable and relaxing get-away - and I promise to do everything I can to make your stay a wonderful, fun-filled, rewarding experience.
