~ ASK FOR LAST MINUTE DISCOUNTS ~ I'm happy to discount if I've had a last minute cancellation (on the same or next day).
Owner lives in separate dwelling on property and is available for extra needs and suggestions. My adult son also lives here, and my fenced three dogs, so security is never a problem.
I have just added a Tiny House to my property. It is not visible from the inside of the Studio and it has its own parking, camp fire and outdoor area.
There is a large meadow and woods that are for your enjoyment. The fire pit is exclusively for your use. Ask for wood, if you need it. If you have trouble getting it started, I am happy to help. There are snowshoes for use in the winter, and beach equipment in the summer.
*Please be aware that we are recovering from a record-breaking extreme winter. Many trees have fallen and my drive has suffered with potholes and uneven places. The whole community shares these after-effects and there is a waiting list for clean-ups and repairs. I still have a few down or leaning trees and brush piles. I also have a temporary vintage camper that I am renovating for vacationers' use. It not pretty, yet. However, none of this can be seen from The Studio windows. My driveway is always kept passable but it is a gravel two-track, rest assured that once you get to your cabin, the ambiance is lovely!*
Interaction with guests
I live on the property (about 250 feet from the Studio) and my home is shielded from your view by evergreens. I am available if you need anything at all, such as: firewood, extra linens, cooking supplies, advise on dining, entertainment, beaches, hiking, bargains etc. The Studio will be unlocked when you arrive and your keys are inside. You do not need to check in. Late night arrivals are fine. When you leave, just leave the keys and door unlocked, no need to check out. I will respect your absolute privacy except in emergencies. If you do want to share a beer or glass of wine by the fire, I'm very amenable, otherwise I will leave you undisturbed to enjoy the seclusion and quiet space. My adult son lives with me. He works nights at times but is very quiet. Having the extra person adds to security because someone is almost always available for any needs.
I live on the edge of Tribal land. My neighbors are quiet and pleasant. There is a mix of types of homes: farmhouse, stickbuilt, mobile, modular, artisan and cabins. These are neatly kept and not in view of my cabin. Once a year, the residents are encouraged to put large items out for landfill pickup. This looks HORRIBLE! But please remember that it is just once a year and not a reflection of the everyday condition of our community. It is also very safe here, there is a fire station, EMT and police nearby.
There is no reliable public transit here. You will need a vehicle to get here. We do have wonderful bike trails and our roads have bike lanes.
Other things to note
If you are new to the cabin experience, let me share a few things. I have well water. It is HARD! It is tested every 6 months and has always been 100% safe, no pesticides, bacteria or heavy metals. Just calcium and iron. I try my best to keep the evidence to a minimum but it is a challenge. So you will see some calcium deposits on water fixtures (although I do treat them every time I clean) and iron stains on occasion (also treated between each guest). Sometimes the residue blooms again after I have treated it. It is safe, just not tidy looking. And when water sits in the pipes a long time between guests sometimes it can have a metallic smell. That is the iron. Just let the water run a few minutes and it will dissipate. There is a light well-water taste. Some love it, some don't. It IS safe and even healthy!
Critters: I have done my best to seal up any places unwanted guests may use to get into The Studio. So far, no mammals have breached my efforts! And most larger insects have been kept at bay. However, I cannot keep minute insects from coming through the screens and so you may find small cobwebs or gnats once in awhile. Again, I look for these between each guest, but they can return overnight. Luckily I have very few mosquitos, when we do it is usually in the evening only.
We are in the country. If either of these things bother you, keep in mind that I cannot overcome these issues. It is part of the cabin experience!
Dogs are welcome if you assume responsibility for any damage. There is a $25 cleaning fee for dogs, you can pay that when you leave. Please remember this because all dogs require extra cleaning up after (odor, hair, nose and paw prints) and I do not want the next guest to find evidence of pets. Feel free to take advantage of the large meadow with your pets!
We have allergies, so we ask that you not bring cats.
We have wireless. We are quite remote and so it is not high-speed, but it will accomplish most tasks unless you are a serious gamer. Wifi does not require a password. I installed a smart TV. You can stream Netflix and it has Roku. Be aware that we CANNOT get high speed internet and it will likely be slow. I cannot change this, so please do not give bad reviews for that. There are plenty of books, games, puzzles and cards. Just ask if you need more variety.
Please let me know if you need old towels for drying dogs and beach toys.
A charcoal grill is provided. Please use oil on the grilll to prevent build up, and please scrape it after use.
We have a standard poodle, a doodle and English Cream Retriever that romp in the meadow a few times a day. They are harmless and doofy. A fence keeps them away from the studio and fire pit.
Just ask if you need firewood and kindling for a campfire. I have plenty of dry wood at the main house. You are welcome to have a fire in the outdoor pit during any season!
Smoking IS allowed outside. Just please pick up butts.
99% of my guests have common sense but I do have to make these next rules for the few who are not experienced homeowners. SAFTY! Please do not attempt to repair the appliances if there is a problem. Call or text me ASAP and I will call my licensed repairman. And DO let me know of any issues so I can get them repaired before the next guest. I do not charge your deposit for accidental breakage, only for carelessness or vandalism.
Please DO enjoy the fire pit: do NOT leave it unattended. Put it out using a bucket of water. Do not make big bon fires (the dry forrest is too close) or build fires on dry windy days. Do NOT add an accelerant/starter to an already burning fire, the flame can travel up the stream to your hand. I am happy to start a fire for you if you are inexperienced.
If you are not experienced with driving in Northern winters, I am happy to help you navigate my driveway. I will let you know the conditions before you arrive, will help determine where best to park, and will even drive your car to it's parking spot if you want. If you get stuck, my son and I can probably get you out. Obviously, we use the drive ourselves multiple times every day and we very rarely get stuck, so it is not inaccessible, but having experience in snow/ice helps.
