About this listing
I am proud to announce a Film Festival Winning Film has been made about our neighbors and their fishing business. You can walk to their marina and then cook fresh fish at The Studio. Buy smoked fish, too. (website hidden)
Spring is here. Soon the poppies will decorate the meadow. Follow the two-track road to a modest cabin that reveals an upscale interior.
This Studio-style cabin has been completely updated with a walk-in terrazzo tile shower, glass vessel sink and bamboo floors. Featuring a full kitchen with cherry counter tops, Motawi tile and a gas Miele cook-top. You'll have all cooking and serving supplies (even fresh coffee and a French Press). And you'll rest well on a queen sized Celeste pillow-top memory foam bed by the fireplace. Find the shelves stocked with books by and about local characters. There are board games and cards too. Didn't finish the book? Take it with you!
You will feel as if you are in a secluded hideaway yet, just minutes away from Omena, Sutton's Bay, Leland and Northport. The local art theater, casino, fishing village, galleries and wineries are just 10 minutes away, and you are only 30 minutes from "America's most beautiful spot" Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes.
Available by the night, weekend, or week. In June through September, you can pick your own blueberries in the meadow, right outside the cabin. There is also fire pit and outdoor seating. Plenty of parking for your boat.
The queen bed sleeps two, but children may use sleeping bags if you wish to bring the family. Hurry! There are very few rentals available in central Leelanau County.
Here are just a few local destinations starting from nearest first: Leelanau Sands Casino, Eewaing Native American Museum, Silver Leaf Winery, Raftshol's Vineyards, Tandem Ciders, Corky's Bistro, Tamarack Gallery, Knot Just a Bar, Circa Winery, Parallel 45 Winery, Bay Theater, Will Case Jewelry, Eddie's Village Inn, 9 Bean Rows, Martha's Table, Wines and Vines Restaurant, Ciccone Winery, Shady Lane Winery, L Mawby Sparkling Wines, Dick's Pour House, The Happy Hour, Historic Fishtown, Carlson's Fisheries, The Cheese Shop, Leelanau Cheese, Nature's Gems Petoskey Stones, The Blue Bird, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Blu, M22 Store, Fusion and about 20 more wineries!
~ ASK FOR LAST MINUTE DISCOUNTS ~ I'm happy to discount if I've had a last minute cancellation (on the same or next day).
Owner lives in separate dwelling on property and is available for extra needs and suggestions.
If you'd like to bring a group that wants to camp, there is plenty of room for tents and parking. Extra nightly charge per person applies.
The meadow is perfect for WEDDINGS, too. The studio is available for the dressing area and over night, too! Inquire about prices.
There is a large meadow and woods that are for your enjoyment. The fire pit is exclusively for your use. Ask for wood, if you need it. If you have trouble getting it started, I am happy to help. There are snowshoes for use in the winter, kayaks and beach equipment in the summer.
*Please be aware that we are recovering from a record-breaking extreme winter. Many trees have fallen and my drive has suffered with potholes and uneven places. The whole community shares these after-effects and there is a waiting list for clean-ups and repairs. I still have some down or leaning trees and brush piles. I also have two temporary vintage campers that I am renovating for vacationers' use. They are not pretty, yet. However, none of this can be seen from The Studio windows. *
Interaction with Guests
I live on the property (about 250 feet from the Studio) and my home is shielded from your view by evergreens. I am available if you need anything at all, such as: firewood, extra linens, cooking supplies, advise on dining, entertainment, beaches, hiking, bargains etc. The Studio will be unlocked when you arrive and your keys are inside. You do not need to check in. Late night arrivals are fine. When you leave, just leave the keys and door unlocked, no need to check out. I will respect your absolute privacy except in emergencies. If you do want to share a beer or glass of wine by the fire, I'm very amenable, otherwise I will leave you undisturbed to enjoy the seclusion and quiet space.
Dogs are welcome if you assume responsibility for any damage. There is a $25 cleaning fee for dogs, you can pay that when you leave. Please remember this because all dogs require extra cleaning up after (odor, hair, nose and paw prints) and I do not want the next guest to find evidence of pets. Feel free to take advantage of the large meadow with your pets!
We have allergies, so we ask that you not bring cats.
We have wireless. We are quite remote and so it is not high-speed, but it will accomplish most tasks unless you are a serious gamer. Wifi does not require a password. An iPod player is provided and a radio. There are plenty of books, games, puzzles and cards. Just ask if you need more variety.
Please let me know if you need old towels for drying dogs and beach toys.
We have reclining lawn chairs for sunning. If you want to use them or need help starting the fire pit ...just ask! I usually have extra marshmallows for roasting, if you did not bring any.
A charcoal grill is provided. Please use oil on the grilll to prevent build up, and please scrape it after use.
We have a standard poodle and English Cream Retriever that romp in the meadow a few times a day. They are harmless and doofy. An underground fence keeps them away from the studio and fire pit. The female can be territorial so let me know if you want your dogs to play. We can introduce them properly.
Just ask if you need firewood and kindling for a campfire. I have plenty of dry wood at the main house. You are welcome to have a fire in the outdoor pit during any season!
This studio was great! It's even better than the pictures, and the setting is a perfect Northern Michigan getaway.
Pamela's studio was a great place for us to celebrate our anniversary. Pamela said hello to us shortly after we arrived and made us feel at home very quickly. As a same-sex couple we never know how we will be received, but we found our experience at this studio to be very welcoming.
The full-sized couch in the studio was great for lounging, and the bank of windows facing out onto a meadow was beautiful. The kitchen was stocked with the pans and utensils we needed to make ourselves breakfast each morning. Additionally, the plates are unique, good-quality, handmade ceramics. The bathroom came equipped with a really nice, updated, and large shower. Another great amenity was a portable air conditoning unit that really helped to cool down the space when it got particularly warm on our second night.
Our one critique of the studio was that the bathroom was only separated from the rest of the space by one step and a screen. It would be great if the bathroom could be enclosed as a separate room. However, that small privacy issue was easily overcome by letting the other person have some some alone time while you go outside and enjoy the beautiful meadow. This issue should not deter anyone from staying at the studio.
As for location, the studio could not be more convenienly located. It is right in between Northport and Suttons Bay (like a 10 minute drive from each). We enjoyed dining in both cities. Sleeping Bear Dunes is only about 30 minutes away, and we took full advantage of that too.
This studio is a great way for any couple to enjoy the beauty of the Leelanau Peninsula. We thought it was just right for a weekend getaway. But we think it would also be a great place for a longer stay because then you could take advantage of the fire pit and BBQ that the host makes available. We hope we can return again soon!
Thanks for the great review. The bathroom design was a challenge. We wanted to keep it open, because it is such a small room and so built half walls. Building walls to the citing would have made it claustrophobic. We put a door on, but without an over-head support, they kept falling off. So the screen was our only recourse. I do show a picture and mention it in my description so people are forewarned. :)
We enjoyed the peaceful setting of the studio. We enjoyed the view and the studio had most things we needed for our comfort. the studio has a very nice layout. Lovely views from windows. The one area that could improve is the bed. If you have a touchy back as I do, you will wish for a better, firmer mattress. The couch was also in need of replacement because it sinks when you sit on it. If these 2 items were improved I would give the studio high marks.
Pamela was a great host! Her personal touches to the cottage made us feel at home immediately. The cottage accommodations were very cute and comfortable.
The Studio was the perfect spot for a week long getaway. My boyfriend and I enjoyed the amenities Pamela provided. She was also an excellent resource for the best wineries in the area. We very much enjoyed our stay and called the place "perfect" non stop.
The studio was very cozy and Pamela was graciously accommodating to our requests for an early arrival and late check out. She recommended a place for gelato in Suttons Bay and not only was it fantastic but the staff was super friendly! Wish we would have had more time to check out all the recommended wineries and restaurants. Would definitely come back!
enjoyed staying at pam's studio with the family! loved having the firepit and the grill with awesome weather.
