Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
Your two bedrooms and bath (within my house and accessible through a separate entrance) are in a peaceful, tree-filled neighborhood on Shoal Creek close to restaurants, shops, Westminster and UT. The casita works well for one couple with two children or two or three adults who need two bedrooms. There's no actual kitchen--only a fridge, microwave, toaster, and coffee maker--but plenty of neat and nearby eateries are available for all types of sustenance & budgets!

The space
Great getaway for a short stay, especially for events in which the guests will be eating out a fair amount. Many parents with college-aged children attending college/univ.-related events, engrossed-in-the-music young adults over the age of 25 (needing peaceful sleep primarily when here!), folks visiting grandchildren, folks visiting parents at Westminster, and various couples and singles who are comfortable with the bedroom/bed arrangements (queen in larger room and a double in smaller room--with twin mattress that can be pulled out from under) have frequented and enjoyed la casita!

Guest access
Guests do not share any space with me or others, but have complete access via their own private entrance to two bedrooms and a bath, separated from my side of the house by locked doors in the kitchen hallway. They also have use of the driveway, the bikes in the back shed, and a covered deck/balcony, with a high railing, attached to the front bedroom, overlooking the street and creek (deck built in 2020).

Other things to note
Hey, I pay my taxes to the Great, Glorious, and Ever Growing Capitol City and County (15%.). These taxes have actually benefited the little neighborhood in a tangible, New Storm Drain and a few New Water & Sewer Lines sort of way. It only took...20 months in which we had dirt roads and lots of excavator noises and shows, but it's helped with the drainage situation tremendously. Oh yeah, all but 1.5 feet of my driveway is completely out of Austin's 100 or 500 year flood plain, according to the maps, and the water from the creek has not overtopped its banks and has not flooded Jefferson (let alone Ridgelea) in the 25 years I've lived here.

People LOVE this 'hood! There's hardly a moment, except in the really hot mid-day in our admittedly longgg summer, when folks are not out in the street and on the greenbelt, often with dogs. Sometimes they're in the creek, IF it's dry, and IF they are hunting for the ubiquitous exogyra fossils. Ridgelea is a cul-de-sac of four 2- or 3-block long streets off of a not-yet-too-busy street, and you'll see parents walking their children to nearby Brykerwoods Elementary, 5 blocks away.

After studying at U.T. to start my life-long love affair with 'soft-rock' geology, followed by stints in Houston and Midland, Austin lured me back for keeps. I lucked into this jewel of a neighborhood north of the original Kerbey Lane restaurant by happenstance. Turned out--much to my father's delight--to be a mere two neighborhoods north of the house in Clarksville where my grandfather was born after the Civil War. I've worked as a geologically trained bureaucrat for the Great State of Texas (the really pretty fabulous Water Development Board, beloved by politicians, people, and groundwater dependent ecosystems of all stripes) for nearly 30 years. As of spring, 2019, I've started my new Retirement Life. Therefore, I vow not to practice my piano playing while guests are next door, but studying for my Spanish and French classes is a quieter pursuit. Will continue to enjoy my three-mile neighborhood runs, although may venture to different 'hoods for the heck of it, as my slow runs seem to be ideal for viewing so much of Austin's nifty new architectural endeavors.

During your stay
I am generally present while guests are staying. I leave the amount of interaction up to them. Although we tend to meet at some time en route to our separate doors to the house, and while I like meeting and listening to folks and am equally happy to extol the virtues of the 'hood (or nearby geological features of interest?), it's *possible* that all may not share my interests, imagine that! So my approach is to be approached. The goal? Being the hostess with the mostest...savoir-faire, sensitivity, and suggestions (if asked)!
