La Casa de Mama Lu is an upstairs duplex apartment located four blocks south of the Medical Center and five blocks north of the beach. La Casa de Mama Lu is named after my grandmother Elizabeth. She was born on Galveston Island in June of 1900 just in time to be one of the youngest survivors of the 1900 Storm. Mama Lu was the wife of a ship's caption (my grandfather). She entertained visitors from all over the world. She had a well deserved reputation for having the gift of hospitality.

Location

Galveston, Texas, United States

The University of Texas Medical Center is only a six to eight minute walk from La Casa de Mama Lu. The Galveston Beach is only a six to eight minute walk in the other direction from La Casa de Mama Lu. We are an ideal location if you need a place to stay while a loved one is receiving treatment at the medical center for a week or month or longer. We are also an ideal location if you are in town for a cruise and want to arrive a day early so as to avoid travelling to Galveston on the day of your cruise.

I am a retired accountant. I enjoy walking on the beach and on the many other trails in Galveston County. I am interested in other cultures. One of my current interests is studying the Spanish language with the goal of speaking Spanish as well as I can speak English. Another interest of mine is learning to play the piano. I am currently taking lessons from a well known and respected local musician. I enjoy conversations with guests and making recommendations for restaurants and attractions in Galveston. I also enjoy discussions about life in general. I enjoy travelling. I enjoyed my conversations with the people in Scotland and Ireland. I sang two songs in a karaoke bar in Scotland and that is memorable. I believe my favorite trip so far was a ten day trip to China with my Dad, which included, among other things, a riverboat cruise on the Yangtzee River.
