Location & Getting Around
Due to our suburban location, guests need to be happy to use public transport or taxis to explore Dubai. Guests easily find their way around Dubai's simple metro system, which is ultra modern, reliable and user-friendly. Reach the nearest metro station (Rashidiya) via a fast and pleasant bus journey from our house. I loan guests a travel card for use during their stay.
Our villa is located in a residential area in the suburb of Mirdif, typical of the region. You won't find it buzzing with nightclubs and 5 star hotels. We have convenient essentials on our doorstep including a selection of local takeaways, groceries, bakery, pharmacy, dry cleaners, numerous salons, a park with walking track and outdoor gym, and a bank/ATM. It's a straight 10-15 minute walk to reach Mirdif City Centre, an upmarket shopping mall containing over 430 stores, salons, restaurants, cafes, currency exchange bureau, Carrefour hypermarket and a cinema with 3D and 4D screens. Buses link the mall with the metro, too.
Our busy family consists of myself (English housewife) and my husband (British Zimbabwean) and one 8-yr old at school. We have a vocal cat called Kassie. See my profile for more information on our family.
This is a strictly non-smoking house, both inside and in communal areas.
Between 11am - 10pm. Late arrivals after 10pm cannot be accommodated.
Allow around 1.5 hours (average) to reach our house after landing, collecting luggage, customs, immigration etc.
Strictly 12 noon (midday).
Breakfast is served at an agreed time between 7.30am - 10.30am.
NOTE: We don't have a fast connection.
Directly through patio doors from the lounge. Enjoy a refreshing swim in our pool (shared with 5 neighbours) in the shade of palm trees. The best weather in Dubai for swimming is from April to November.
Help from hosts
Most of the interaction with guests will be at breakfast time, when I am available to give help for planning your day and answer any questions.
After a booking is confirmed, I email guests with ideas for activities, cultural sites and attractions, to assist with planning and making the most of a short stay in this vibrant and fascinating city. There is something for everyone - art, ancient history, shopping, beaches, entertainment, music and the chance to experience the desert on an organised 4x4 safari.
I have a special arrangement with a tour company for desert safaris or city tours. Guests are collected and dropped off at our villa, and the price includes BBQ dinner, unlimited soft drinks, activities and transportation.
We have a small parking space outside the house on the street.
We look forward to welcoming you to our Dubai home!

Tea & coffee making facilities including a kettle and supplies for making a cuppa are provided in the guest bedroom, and we provide breakfast. There are takeaways, eateries and a bakery just a few steps from the villa, and several grocery stores for snacks and drinks on the go. Local malls also have a huge selection of cafes, coffee shops, restaurants, food courts and takeaways in every price range. The compound is a non-smoking compound, even outside (outside air comes in through air conditioning). We do have asthma in our family. Smoking also presents a fire risk in this hot climate.
We have one cat, Kassie. She does not enter guest rooms, but you will encounter her during your stay.
Alcohol is not permitted. Our household is legally licensed for our own private use but this does not cover visitors. Legally licensed premised include most hotels in Dubai and there are several located near the airport, a short taxi ride away. Please refer to the notes below about alcohol consumption in the UAE.
As the room is inside our family home, this guest room is out of bounds to anyone except the checked-in guest. Please arrange to meet friends etc at another venue outside the house, and I can help with suggestions and transport options.
The following is a list of local guidelines. I have copied these from the UK's Foreign & Commonwealth Office website to draw attention to some of the UAE's laws and traditions which you should familiarise yourself with before you arrive. Some laws will be different to those in your home country but need to be taken very seriously. While Dubai is a relaxed and friendly environment for tourists and foreigners, the country's laws reflect its Muslim tradition, and tourists who do not take steps to familiarise themselves with restrictions may quite easily find themselves unknowingly breaking laws and/or offending people. This can have consequences which could seriously derail your vacation. Laws apply to visitors from all countries as well as residents - there are no allowances made for not knowing the law.
Entering the country
:: The UAE has a zero-tolerance drugs policy and anyone caught carrying illegal substances can expect a stiff penalty, even if it is just a trace amount.
:: Some prescription drugs, such as commonly-used anti-depressants, cold remedies and pain killers are included on the UAE's controlled list and visitors are advised to check the status of ALL medicines before bringing them into the country. Bring your doctor's prescription (or a letter) with you, and only carry enough to last you for your trip. Check your medication against the UAE banned substance list on the internet. Codeine is illegal - do not bring it (4 year jail term).
:: Pork products and pornographic books and material are also banned.
In the country:
:: Swearing or making rude gestures is considered to be an obscene act and offenders can be arrested by police.
:: Public displays of affection, including kissing and holding hands, could lead to arrest if deemed to be offensive.
:: Sex outside marriage is banned and unmarried couples who live together or even share a hotel room are (technically)committing an offence. Adultery is illegal.
:: Homosexual behaviour and cross-dressing is forbidden.
:: In situations other than on the beach or by the swimming pool, a woman's clothing may be considered indecent if it is tight, transparent, above the knee or shows her stomach, shoulders or back. A man should not wear shorts above the knee or show his chest. Underwear should not be visible. Most public areas enforce a modest dress code (shopping malls, hotel foyers, etc). Visiting official buildings or heritage sites will mean you should take extra steps to cover up - take a shawl or cardigan with you, and long trousers etc are advised. EVEN IN HOT WEATHER.
:: Visitors can only drink alcohol in licensed hotels or clubs, and drinking alcohol or being drunk in public is an offence. In the emirate of Sharjah, any alcohol consumption is illegal. In the emirate of Sharjah, any alcohol consumption is illegal. Alcohol can be purchased at the huge duty free shop when arriving at DXB airport, subject to the duty free limit. Alcohol can't be bought locally in supermarkets, and is served in licensed hotel restaurants and bars only. Our nearest licensed premises will be the airport hotels, such as Bustan Rotana, Le Meridien and Millennium Airport, or the Irish Village, all a short taxi ride away.
:: Driving after consuming any amount of alcohol is against the law. Zero tolerance applies.
:: Photography of certain government and military buildings is banned, and visitors should always ask before taking pictures of people, especially ladies in national dress.
:: Failing to pay a bill or bouncing a cheque can lead to a fine and even imprisonment.
:: During the fasting month of Ramadan, visitors should not eat, drink or smoke in public places. Live and loud music is also banned. Check with hosts for updated Ramadan dates and timings.

Clare is a lovely host and her apartment is big, even though she said it's not really that big. She prepared the breakfast for me every morning, and gave me some useful informance during the breakfast time. The bedroom is comfortable with double bed, the bathroom is clean and cozy. Clare also prepared a lot of thing for me in the bedroom, such as city maps, bus timetable, tea, coffee and some snack. Also, she provided some lotion, shampoo and soap in bathroom.
But it takes around 45mins to arrive the city center by bus and train. And because the apartment is close to the airport (around 15mins by taxi), it is a bit noisy at sleep time.
By the way, Clare's son, Grag is so cute!
This was my first AirBnB stay, and I think Clare and her family have spoiled me for any future experiences! From the thorough information sent to me before arrival, to the generous tourism guidance, to the clean & spacious guest room/bathroom, to the delicious large breakfast accompanied by warm friendly conversation--Clare went above and beyond all expectations. I highly recommend staying here!
My stay with Clare & her family could not have been nicer, they made me so welcome. Clare was really helpful, I mentioned an interest in art & she came up with a suggested walking itinerary of galleries in the city! The room is really comfortable & well appointed with great views of the incoming planes to the airport from the balcony, yet very well sound-proofed to cut out the noise. Highly recommended.
This was a lovely, welcoming place to stay, very clean and tidy, as described, with pleasant hosts, good conversation and information about Dubai aplenty; I was very grateful for the thoroughness and thoughtfulness that Clare offered. Easily accessible from DXB and good transport links into City. Clare and Gary were generously accommodating of my early morning departure for a flight and very helpful indeed.
I enjoyed my stay and can highly recommend this bedouin and bfast option.
I cannot speak highly enough of the hospitality that Claire extended to me during my stay in Dubai. Her explicit instructions on how to get to her place from the airport were extremely helpful, especially since I arrived late at night. My room was ready when I arrived and both Claire and her husband were waiting for me with a warm welcome. The room was spacious and extremely comfortable, with a lovely attached bathroom. Claire was such a generous host, providing all the little extras, such as toiletries that she thought may be useful, even earplugs in case the noise from overhead aircraft and the sounds of the mosque disturbed my sleep. I slept well each night but the sounds of the call to prayer cannot be avoided. Breakfast was excellent and Claire provided a great choice of food all of which was delicious. I particularly liked the local dates. She also provided a metro card which you just topped up as you used it. This was excellent and saved time, along with her helpful instructions on how to get to different places. She even had maps and a pocket guide book of Dubai to help with my sightseeing plans. She also organised a tour of the Jumeira mosque for me and then an afternoon 4wding in the desert. Both these trips were great. She was always willing to have a chat when I returned home at the end of the day and also called a cab to take me to airport when I left. Claire's place is quite far from the centre of Dubai but close to the airport. The distance travelled on the bus and train did not bother me. I would not hesitate to stay with Claire again. Thanks for making my stay so wonderful.
This is one of Dubai’s best kept secrets! If you are looking for a beautiful, clean and comfortable accommodation that is reasonably priced, this is the spot! Clare is such a lovely person and host. It was a pleasure meeting her and her wonderful family.
Before arriving she sent me a guidebook that she had written for Dubai. The room had a coffee/tea/water station with an electric kettle. She left an eye mask and ear plugs on the pillow and comfy slippers by the bed. When I arrived, she gave me a commuter card for the local buses and train so I can get around Dubai without taking taxis. She gave me bus schedules, maps, tons of information and helped me to plan the few days I had. They were so helpful whether it was giving me information, calling taxis for the airport at 5am or serving a wonderful breakfast. I asked her if she had ever done writing because her attention to detail with all the travel information was incredible. I thought she'd make a great travel writer. I was right... she’s a journalist!
I can’t say enough about Clare. She’s so warm, welcoming and the kind of person you want to be friends with! She made a lovely breakfast, sat with me to hear about my previous day of exploring. I mentioned I wanted to check out the gold and spice souks and she had already prepared instructions on how to get there! She’s an absolute gem. I highly recommend this accommodation and host. Thanks Clare! I’ll be sure to stay in touch. I can’t wait to get back to Dubai!
My stay at Clare's villa was excellent and perfect for my short stay in Dubai. The bedroom itself had lots of room and was a great place to come to after a 14 hour flight and exploring the city. Clare was a wonderful host and provided so much knowledge about the neighborhood and Dubai in general. Even though her villa is not centrally located near attractions such as Dubai Mall, the metro card she provides makes traveling around the area easy and relatively cheap. It's right near the airport and easy for travelers to find. I would highly recommend staying here and will definitely come back whenever I'm in Dubai again.

My husband Gary (British Zimbabwean) and I (British) have lived in Dubai for over 4 years. We love living in the United Arab Emirates.
We have a son, age 8, and a crazy cat.
As a small family we enjoy getting out and about in Dubai together - beaches, waterparks, meals, movies and parks. Our family vacation so far was to Bang Tao beach in Phuket, Thailand. We have visited neighbouring countries like Oman and Sri Lanka several times. Gary plays guitar and loves firing up a good barbecue. We can't live without good food and company, access to a swimming pool (our son is part fish) and sunshine (we are solar-powered). Love airbnb for its range of places to stay and the kind people you come across during the process! Enjoy it when my guests enter into the spirit of it, rather than just finding the cheapest place to stay.
