  • Patricia provided a wonderful experience at Lake Okareka. The view is beautiful, especially at sunrise. Large comfortable room and immaculate and stylish bathroom. The neighborhood is quiet and convenient to Rotarua. Patricia and Ken took a real interest in helping plan my activities and the food they served was delicious. A wonderful experience and and I hope to return for another stay.

  • Pat and Ken clearly enjoy introducing guests to the history of the region and are more than happy to recommend activities, from local nature walks to places to take a dip in the thermally heated natural pools nearby. At breakfast you can meet the other guests and find out what they are doing too, so it's a sociable place to stay. Our room was scented with flowers from the garden and had a very comfortable bed. Thanks for a great stay.

  • Staying at Lake Okareka Bed and Breakfast was one of the highlights of our trip to New Zealand. What a beautiful location and home and what delightful hosts Patricia and Ken were. They not only served a marvelous breakfast but were very helpful in terms of recommending places to go and taking the time to connect with us in a meaningful way. We would not hesitate to stay there again!

  • We have been many BnBs and this is one of the best BnB experience for us. Our room is clean and cozy with a great view of lake. You have your own entrance and bathroom so you can have a lot of privacy. Patricia was with her family and we didn't get to meet her, but her friend Elizabeth took great care of us. My husband had soar throat and Elizabeth offered to make us lemon honey drink. We love to come back in the future!

  • Our stay with Patricia and Ken was absolutely wonderful! The accommodations were luxurious, spotless and provided a beautiful view. Patricia and Ken were gracious hosts with information on the area and recommendations for restaurants. They kindly did our laundry for us and provided an amazing breakfast each day of our stay. We will definitely stay with them again and recommend them to everyone visiting the area.

  • Patricia gave us a very peaceful and comfortable living experience in Rotoura. We love their cozy and elegent home with excellent view. We came from HK without very fluent English but still enjoyed a nice chatting with them. They also guided us to romantic places that was not shown on books. I miss them so much and would recommand this place to you undoubtedly.

  • Staying with Patricia and Ken @ their beautiful lakeside B & B was a lovely experience from beginning to end. We received a warm, friendly greeting when we arrived and they made a wonderful restaurant recommendation at a quaint little lakehouse cafe down the road... where we ended up dining our first evening. It was on Lake Tarawera & we were only one of two other couples in the restaurant - great food and beautiful scenery.

Both Patricia and Ken had many recommendations for things to do/see/experience during our time there. We only wish we'd had a little more time to spend hiking around & exploring this beautiful area. Ken was kind enough to give my husband some fishing tips and loan him some waders and fishing gear & give him pointers on a couple good spots to go.

The room we stayed in was very nice and spacious, with a lovely private deck just outside of it overlooking the lake. There are walking tracks all over the area and you're only a short 10-minute drive to town. We liked being a little outside of town, away from the traffic and crowds.

You can either do breakfast on your own (what we chose to do, being later risers) or dine with the hosts and other guests. Patricia has a nice assortment of cheeses, bread, croissants, fruit, cereals, coffee and teas. Breakfast was the only thing that didn't work very well for me, as I am gluten and dairy free... but our hosts did provide us with some soy milk and offered to give us gluten-free bread for toast. I found a cute little cafe nearby where I got a gluten-free bacon and egg pie & soy lattes a few mornings. My husband really loved the breakfasts, though, and I'm sure I would have if I didn't have these current dietary restrictions.

All in all - would highly recommend a stay here if you're considering a trip to this are and want something a little off the beaten path!!
