The Space

This is a very comfortable, modern holiday house with most conveniences.

The main living area combines a full-sized kitchen, dining & lounge. While you prepare dinner in the fully equipped kitchen, the other guests can gather round the granite-topped island & join in. The kitchen has a built in oven, ceramic hob, extractor & microwave. The dishwasher, dual sink & waste disposal are built into the central island. The pantry has a decent supply of plates, cups & glasses etc.

There's a 6 place dining table & the lounge features a large comfortable leather lounge-suite. We've got a flat-panel TV, DVD player & FreeView. You can bring movies on a USB stick & plug them into the TV.

Sliding doors open out to the front & back decks. The two biggest bedrooms & the study also open to decks.

The bathroom has a sliding door providing access from the master bedroom through the walk-through wardrobe. So it's almost an en-suite. The bathroom has a proper tile and glass shower.

If you want to combine a bit of work with pleasure, the study has a decent sized desk. You can connect to the Internet via wireless or cable.

There is also a fold-up bed if needed.

NB. We have just finished building it, so the house itself is brand new, but we haven't finished the landscaping. It's a work in progress. The price reflects this.

While we live in Christchurch (a couple of hours drive from Kaikoura), our neighbours help us manage the rentals, do cleaning etc. So there's a reasonable chance that someone will be on-hand should there be any issues.

Guest Access

Interaction with Guests

You will have the house to yourselves - we will be 2 hours away in Christchurch. However, our neighbours in Kaikoura will have your details and will be assist in an emergency.

The Neighborhood

We are located almost at the end of the peninsula, up top. There's no through traffic, so it's lovely & quiet. It's within walking distance to the beach, the peninsula walkways, the seal colony & 5 minutes drive from the town centre.

Getting around

You really need to have a car to get around Kaikoura. We have heaps of off-road parking for cars and boats.

Check In
  • We were after a comfy place to stay in Kaikoura and this place fit the bill perfectly. A new place near the town with a good view of the mountains. Nice beds, good kitchen and comfortable living space.

  • Our stay at Tim's house was excellent. Everything was perfectly clean and we found the house just that comfortable as per description.

The Check in procedure is very easy, we got all needed information before and could arrive absolutely flexible.

The kitchen and BBQ was great and we enjoyed the large decks surrounding the house.

Unfortunately our stay was to short in that relaxing atmosphere. We did whale watching, what is definitely an impressive experience...

A stay at Tim's house is absolutely recommended.

  • Tim was great, whenever I had a question he answered it on the phone. The house was in perfect condition on a good location. It is big and has lots of space. I ddnt have a chance to check out Kaikoura that much cause of the weather (so we went to the cinema a few times, very cosy), however, we did swim with doplhins which is highly recommended!! ;)

  • We had a great stay at Tim's place. The house was nice and great for our visit. Would completely recommend staying here and loved the area as this was our first trip to NZ. Lots of things to see and do.

Good luck with the rest of the landscaping,

    many thanks,

I work as a software developer/DBA for a living. I used to be an officer in the Naval Reserves (here in New Zealand that means part-time Navy), and when I retired from the Navy after some 30 years my wonderful wife Tong suggested we build a holiday home in Kaikoura to "fill the hole". It's been an absolute brilliant idea, and has certainly kept me busy! I love fishing, boating, and probably no surprise, anything to do with the sea. Which has made Kaikoura an excellent choice. My other significant hobby is classic motorbikes. Note - I've indicated that I speak Mandarin - I don't, but my wife Tong does. I thought I should mention it in case you ring or send a message in Mandarin - I'll be relying on Tong to handle it.
