A quiet, private room in a historic house just steps from Tucson's newly revitalized downtown. The neighborhood is safe for walking home at night from any of the downtown restaurants or cultural events.
Want to go carless? Ride one of our bikes!
Welcome! Bienvenue! iBienvenidos!
Our home is a 1909 Anglo-Territorial style historic house, on a quiet side street in downtown Tucson's Armory Park Historic District.
The large bedroom has a double bed and a single bed. Both beds have good reading lights and down duvets.
Double-glazed windows make for super quiet sleeping and lots of natural light during the day.
The adjacent private bathroom has a clawfoot tub/shower and soft natural light.
There is a closet and two chests of drawers, and a full length mirror.
We have wireless internet as well as a manual typewriter.
We do not provide breakfast but there is an electric kettle and fixings for a cup of tea or coffee in the room, and little snacky things to get you started.
We keep a little library in the room of our favorite books on local culture and geography, desert plants and animals, hiking guides and history.
It's so peaceful and quiet here. There's a great front porch for morning coffee, and a wonderful backyard with a fireplace.
Coming to Tucson this summer? Our house is air conditioned!
We are as eco-friendly as possible. Our sheets and towels are dried on the clothesline in the desert sun, and the shower and bath water irrigates the garden.
We have a gentle, well behaved, non-allergenic dog.
We welcome your well behaved dog. Please clear it with us before you make a reservation if you want to bring a pet.
We LOVE Downtown Tucson and we love to share it with visitors.
We've been in this neighborhood in Tucson for 27 years and can advise our guests on lots of local favorite places as well as little known events.
We are a few blocks from Downtown Tucson's restaurants, yoga studios, farmers market, arts and culture; the Amtrak train station; North Fourth Avenue shopping and restaurants; the University of Arizona, and the center of the Gem and Mineral Shows.
We have several bicycles for our guests to use.
Biking is a dreamy way to get around the Downtown and University neighborhoods!
If you are driving, we're 5 minutes from I-10 and an easy drive to Tucson Airport, the Desert Museum and San Xavier Mission.
Normally guests don't use our kitchen, but if you let us know in advance, you are welcome to do so. The backyard fireplace is a great place to spend the evening, and the front porch is nice for morning coffee.
Interaction with Guests
We play this by ear, and do our best to use our intuition about how much contact our guests want to have. We enjoy getting to know our our guests, but if you want solitude we are very respectful of that as well.
We love our friendly neighborhood! The Armory Park neighborhood was Tucson's first National Register Historic District. We love walking the streets and enjoying the unique detail of each house. We love being just a 5 minute walk to downtown Tucson's vibrant restaurant and culture scene. Although we are close to a lot of great city life, the street we are on is super quiet. We have the best of both worlds.
You could easily spend a week with us and never need a car. We are an easy walk from the Amtrak and Greyhound stations. We're just 4 blocks from Tucson's brand new modern streetcar and city bus stops are a block away.
We offer bicycles for our guests to use. We are about 5 minutes walk to Downtown and 10 minutes walk to N 4th Avenue.
Other Things to Note
The edge of the antique clawfoot tub is 23 inches (59cm) high. If you have limited mobility or balance, this might not be the best choice for you.
No smoking indoors. Quiet after 10 PM please.
The books in the room are ours for you to enjoy during your visit, not to be taken out of the house.
Please do not bring unauthorized overnight guests (to maintain safety of the house).
No candles in the room.
We try to conserve energy, so please turn off all lights and fans before you leave the room or bathroom.
Rooms are served only when you check in, during your stay we do not clean rooms.
Bring your own bike helmet, or use one of our secondhand ones.
Janet and Paulus are awesome hosts,
when my 2 sons and I arrived we found a very nice welcome mosaic on the walkway to their house. One reason I picked their place was the use of bicycles. We arrived by car and did not use it until we left, we used their bikes all around town and university. On our first morning Paulus became our tour guide and showed us around to our appointment at U of A...great. Janet prepared the outdoor fireplace for use which we used on our 2nd night. Thank you both we had a great time.
Nadat we aangekomen waren vond ik uit dat Paulus is ook geboren in Nederland and dat we beide emigrated naar de USA...klompen staan voor de deur. Barry
What an absolutely lovely stay!!!! It all started with a warm front door welcome complete with porch tea and conversation. The room was comfortable, well furnished, and had plenty of character. And the back yard fireplace was the perfect way to relax after a long day at the Gem Show. Speaking of Gem Show, it is a quick ride or walk to convention center from the house, and they have a bike you can borrow if you feel so inclined. Janet and Paulus were both very gracious, accommodating, and easy to get along with. Janet leaves these little adorable notes around to help you find things while they are out. Next time I'm in Tucson, I will definitely be looking them up again!!
Best welcome I never had with airbnb. Thank you Paulus for this coffe and talking in the garden, thank you Janet for your drawing in front of the door, your maps, talks we had in the kichen ,for advises for the Empire ranch...You were both The perfect hosts.
The bedroom was cosy and I loved all these mixed colors and to be able to make cup of coffe in the morning was great. The house is very closed to downtown and it was nice to be able to walk to vibrant 4th ave at night. Thanks!
I really enjoyed my visit this Tucson AirBnB heritage house. The host Janet and her husband were very welcoming and friendly. The room was spacious with large private bathroom. The location was ideal, not far from the Convention Centre and Janet even made a bike and helmet available for me to get around. I did not have much time to hang around the house but I especially enjoyed spending relaxing moments with Janet and her husband on the sunny front porch or by the fireplace in the back yard. I would definitely recommend this accommodation to the Airbnb community.
Our stay was wonderful! Janet really worked with us when we weren't able to make our arranged days. Room was just as pictures and description showed. Great historical neighborhood to walk around. Coffee shop within 5 minute walk. Close to 4th ave shops, restaurants and galleries. Extra special was Mr Rogers meeting us at the door on our returns to the house.
My son and I had a wonderful experience staying with Janet in her beautiful home. The location couldn't have been better, the room was lovely and Janet, Pollis and Mr. Rogers made us feel like family. We couldn't have wished for more. Janet provided a very useful link to local spots to help with our visit as well as being present to answer any questions about getting around town and bicycles to get there!
Janet was the perfect host, both were very friendly and knowledgeable of the area. They were very laid back and the room was great. It was clean and the bed was very comfortable. House had great personality as well and their dog was a delight. Will be back next year when Im in town for sure.
