It was a very cute spot. Nice bike ride to Main Street where all the restaurants and bars are. Beach is not too far away either. The place was clean and was perfect for 2. Didn't really need the host too much but it was nice to have a bottle of wine welcoming us.
Andrea was easy to contact. We were unable to stay at the house due to severe storms and 3 cancelled flights that we repeatedly tried to reschedule! We did get our cleaning deposit back...but there is a very strict NO refund cancellation policy. We visit often to see our family in Sarasota and have never run into a storm of this magnitude with ALL flights cancelled repeatedly. I would hesitate to pay ahead full amount with no consideration for compromise in extreme circumstances.
This was our 2nd stay in the Squirrels Nest!! It was wonderful again! The location is great and space is charming! We will definitely be back and I hope very soon!! They are great to work with as well!
It was wonderful, slept like a baby! Loved it would definitely stay there again and recommend it ! Do heed their advice and lock your bike.
Although I booked to stay here, as they were carrying out work on the apartment next door Andrea asked if I'd mind moving to their adjacent property . This was no problem and my stay was fantastic. Everything was as described, and this older area of Sarasota has a great feel whilst being able to walk downtown. I was working, so only had limited time to spend here and explore, but will be going back to Sarasota and would most definitely stay again.
The Squirrel's nest was wonderful! We had a great stay. The owners are very accomodating and the neighbors are very friendly and helpful as well!!! We will definitely come back and stay in one of Andrea's Sarasota rentals!!
The Squirrel's Nest was absolutely great! The apartment is just as described in the photos, but better. The personal amenities - soap, shampoo, bottle of wine, etc. - were unexpected, and the space felt like "home" within a few minutes. The guest book has all the information needed to enjoy your stay. The neighbors are very nice - one waved the day I drove up and even asked if I needed help carrying my bag to the apartment. Check out the historic houses surrounding the Squirrel's Nest. Whole Foods is within walking distance, as is Main Street. I did have a rental car, but mainly walked to town. Having a full laundry just steps outside the apartment was great! (Takes quarters.)
Unfortunately, I did not get to meet Andrea, but did spend time with lovable Lucy (dog in the photo) and Andrea's awesome Mom, who painted all the watercolors in the apartment. (Ask Andrea to show you her Mom's studio next to the apartment.)
Another guest mentioned trepidation while walking at night. I can't comment on that because I didn't walk after dark, but at all other times I felt quite safe (as a woman walking alone).
Yes, I definitely recommend the Squirrel's Nest - and Andrea's other property, The Frog House (which does have windows on 3 sides... they just don't show in the online photo).
Thank you Andrea (and Margret) for making my two weeks in Sarasota so enjoyable!
Thanks Andrea for a seemless month at the Squirrels Nest.
The apartment was immaculate and just as described and pictured.
The location was within walking distance to downtown and in an area rapidly becoming gentrified.
I'd definitely recommend!
Had a great stay in a cozy, central spot! Squirrel's Nest was 2 blocks from a wonderful outdoor yoga studio, 2 blocks from a neighbourhood of antique and second-hand stores, a block from a great bakery/restaurant - and only a few blocks from downtown Sarasota. I arrived early, and Andrea let me drop off my bags so I could explore without dragging them along. The space was well outfitted, with beautiful landscaping, and there was even a bottle of wine waiting for me! Would definitely recommend and book again.
Andrea was great to rent from. There was a small problem in the initial apartment with leakage from the A/C. I called her, she responded immediately and graciously moved me to a neighboring condo, which was an upgrade, at no cost. Very helpful, very nice and responded immediately when I contacted her.
I give her 5/5 as a host. She also left a binder with very good suggestions with things to do when visiting the Sarasota area. My knock on the place is that some of the surrounding neighborhood was a bit sketchy. I walked to Whole Foods one night, about 0.5 miles from the apartment. Whole Foods is right next to the bus stop and walking back made me a little nervous...
