A good sized East village apartment on Avenue B with a 7ft dining table/desk, separate kitchen, and separate cozy bedroom alcove with a full sized bed. Minimally decorated, the natural features such as the parquet flooring, skylights and exposed brick of the apartment shine through to add subtle character.
It's a quiet relaxing space to come back to after a hectic day in NYC. Located to the rear of the building, so although it's in a vibrant bustling neighborhood you rarely hear any noise once inside the apartment. Only 5 apartments are in the whole building, making it a quiet building. It's on the 5th floor, which means you get to take advantage of the skylights which sit over the dining/working space and the bathroom.
Brilliant location, straddling the divide between the East Village and Lower East Side. Lots of great restaurants and bars minutes away from the apartment. Also there is a deli, a pharmacy and a wine store across the street.
An under ten minutes walk to the 2nd Ave subway stop (lines F & M) which can quickly take you to uptown Manhattan. Another short walk away is the L stop on 14th street which will shoot you straight into Williamsburg in a matter of minutes.
THINGS TO DO
The Williamsburg bridge is also just a couple of blocks away, and makes for a great walk or bike across on a nice day.
The amazing boutiques and restaurants of Soho are also only a 15 minute walk, or one stop on the subway, or go another stop and you'll be dropped in the picturesque West Village.
David was a wonderful host from my initial contact with airbnb, throughout my stay right up until my departure. This was my first experience with airbnb and I was very happy with the experience.
The ad for David's apartment was very accurate. The pictures are an honest representation of the actual apartment. I arrived late in the afternoon and David made arrangements with the team at a very nice wine shop nearby to hold and hand over the keys.
The apartment was very clean and well appointed. The AC worked very well. The shower was fantastic. The kitchen had every convenience. (the only recommendation would be the addition of a small microwave.)
The location in the East Village was excellent. Plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars within walking distance. Yelp is an outstanding resource for this and very accurate. And don't forget the great wine shop across the street. Nice selection at good prices.
The subway station is just a short two block walk from the apartment.
The apartment is on the top floor (5th) of this walk up building (no elevator). Very quiet neighbors; didn't see anyone during the six days there. The apartment faces away from the street so there is no street noise.
On day of departure, David communicated to ensure everything went well and offered any help to ensure I had a safe trip home.
This was an excellent vacation, in large part to David and his great apartment. I will request to stay here again on my next trip to NYC.
