At the end of a long driveway, surrounded by farm land, fruit trees and flowers, Le Spighe is a comfortable country retreat. So peaceful listening to the birds at night. Francesco and his family are the best at warm welcomes and helpful assistance. (The fig jam was delicious! And the asparagus!)
We spent a week at Le Spighe which had all the little items that make it easy to settle in quickly. A car is necessary but easily picked up at Orvieto, ( which is a "must see" place too) and the drive through the hills in May was simply a pleasure. Francesco gave us excellent directions so it was easy to find.
Thank you for everything and hope to see you all again!
Our own little piece of Heaven! This was the second time we stayed at one of Francesco's properties and as expected, we were not disappointed! Francesco & his family are lovely people paying close attention to every detail and making you feel so at home. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed with smiles and Francesco was so kind to pick up some milk for us as we had our 15 month old with us. Speaking of our toddler, if it's possible, I think she had more fun than us! Just kidding, we had a wonderful time too! She enjoyed chasing the cats, running all around the grounds & stomping in every puddle she could find as well as spending time playing & hugging Adelaide! While she napped we enjoyed some lunch or snack outdoors while sipping on some local wine enjoying the Tuscan sun. At night we laid a blanket on the floor & all 3 of us enjoy cozying up by the fire in our living area. Francesco helped us set up another cooking lesson with one of our favorite local chefs & we had a wonderful time. We also thoroughly enjoyed the pot luck dinner with all the guest, Francesco & his wonderful family, a lovely couple from Holland as well as our Canadian friends we met up with at the cottage whom we met upon our last visit. We visited Orvieto, Montepulciano as well as some other local towns and had just a wonderful time. Francesco and delightful family, we are so very thankful you are willing to open your farm up to us to stay as we truly love it there and will be sure to visit again in the future. Thank you so much!
Wonderfully remote and private cottage for a stress-relieving and idyllic vacation near the renown thermal spa resort of San Casciano dei Bagni and the Lago di Bolsena. Family-friendly, clean, elegantly furnished, with a well equipped kitchen and everything you need at place. About 2,2 hrs from Rome (Airport). Very welcoming and forthcoming host, who lives in a town nearby. His mother makes an excellent apple pie. Watch out for the fox!
From the moment we arrived at Le Spighe Francesco made us feel very welcome. We arrived to a sensational cup of a coffee and a freshly baked cake. Francesco was exceptionally helpful with any questions we had regarding places to see and time it would take. We loved the accommodation perfect for our needs and very relaxing. We would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone seeking a slice of heaven. It is exceptionally clean, comfortable and very peaceful.
Wow..... Le spighe. What can I say that hasn't been written in all the previous reviews??? We spend a very beautiful 5 days at this place. We lounged around, relaxed, bbq'd, and drove around to the many parts around the area. (A car is a must). I would recommend this place for families, or any people looking to relax and see a true piece of Italy. Francesco and his family were very helpful.... Francesco is a good man. :) I would love to return.
Our three days at Le Spighe went by far too quickly and were not yet ready to leave, although we have a feeling we would still feel the same after two weeks or two months. Le Spighe was our first stop in Italy, and on a two-week trip to Europe from New York for a dear friend's wedding in Bucharest, Romania. We instantly felt at home in this peaceful, magical place, breathing in the fresh air, listening to the birds and cows and roosters, and enjoying beauty in so many forms around us. We arrived late at night after our plane ride to Milan, then car ride to Le Spighe. Francesco's father greeted us and assured us Francesco was not far behind. On our first full day we made our way to Montalcino and Montepulciano and stumbled upon a small (two hectare) vineyard whose lovely owner opened her doors to us for tasting of Rosso and Brunello - FornaCello. Our second day, we headed south to Orvieto and then on to Bolsena, which was an unexpected treat with its sparkling blue water in the afternoon sun. As we packed up, we enjoyed the last few bites of delicious fruit pie and prepared one last espresso in the mini espresso makers. We wish we could stay longer and chat with Francesco and his lovely family. Francesco was a great host who greeted us with a warm welcome and provided a great sense of humor and engaging stories. We will carry the experience with us forever.
