Come and stay in a quirky, inspiring, antique-filled house with a charismatic writer & glamorous feline called Belle de Jour. I am offering an Organic and Local Rooming House - with delicious gourmet breakfasts and other meals by request. My home has wonderful views. The pretty, light-filled double room, has an antique bed fit for a princess. I have broadband and you can also request a lunch, picnic or dinner by arrangement, I am a talented cook!
Within easy walking distance you will find:
Bonchurch - a pretty and romantic village, visited by Keats and Tennison. It has a carp filled pond, a 12th century ancient church and a Michelin trained chef's bijou restaurant/cafe. You can follow a wooded path to Horseshoe Bay shore where you will find a local pottery and secluded coves.
Ventnor - a Victorian seaside town full of cafes, restaurants, top hotels and individual boutique shops. From the harbour you can charter a fishing boat to catch Mackerel, or enjoy a sea trip along the coast and hear its fascinating history by a local tour guide. Relax in a deck chair on the beach or for the more energetic, walk the beautiful coastal path to picturesque Steephill Cove (only accessed by foot) and indulge in a freshly caught crab salad. Continue to Ventnor Botanical Gardens for the unnusual horticulture and mini climates and a delicious cup of tea.
Travel by car to the island via a ferry from Southampton to Cowes or from Portsmouth to Fishbourne. Or by rail from Victoria Station in London, via Clapham Junction through to Shanklin where a shuttle bus operates to Ventnor or take a taxi. Take a bus from Ventnor to Newport where every corner of the island can be accessed by bus.
If you need information about other places of interest, theatres, festivals, music, galleries, crafts, markets, shops, organic restaurants, walks - please don't hesitate to ask me. The island has something for everyone.
I look forward to your visit!
Lovely room in a quirky and welcoming home. AJ is very nice and interesting person and a caring host, who wants to make sure you have all you need and have a good time while her guest. Unexpected and very good tea and porridge in the morning were a nice and welcome surprise. As well as the tips on different things to see on the island, which are very helpful to make the best of your stay if you're a novice of the island like I was.
We had such a lovely stay at Alison Janes.
She was very welcoming and had lot's of interesting stories to tell.
She even booked us a table at the beatiful Royal Hotel for dinner.
Me and my boyfriend definitely want to come back on the island at some point.
Thank you Alison Jane
