From the windows of our apartments you can see the spectacular Dome of St. Peter's. Via Gregorio VII runs alongside Vatican City. Just a short walk away (within minutes), you will find the world's smallest state.... Christianity's most sacred site.

The historical centre is about 1 km from Romahouse.

Several of the buses that stop right in front of Romahouse bring you towards Rome's most interesting sites within minutes (e.g. Piazza Navona, Spanish Steps, the Roman Forum, the Colosseum, etc.).
VIA GREGORIO VII is a beautiful, tree-lined street where you will find Romans and tourists alike. The neighbourhood boasts many conveniences: supermarkets and grocery shops, banks and drugstores, fine restaurants and fast food restaurants, and all kinds of retail stores.

Upon your arrival you will be offered a map of the area, filled with useful hints about how to get around.
A local market "at your front door", among real Romans!

Every morning a vibrant, open-air market makes Via Gregorio VII cheerful and lively. There, you will find various booths: fruits and vegetables, fresh fish and meats, breads and pastries, as well as street-vendors selling clothes and household items.

  • Martin was extremely helpful and provided lots of great suggestions and advice. The flat was as expected - perfectly clean and basic and the view is amazing!!!!
The noise from the road by the bedroom is very loud but it's in an amazing location with the bus stop directly opposite the flat and a 15/20 minute walk to the Vatican.
Two of us stayed - one in the room and one on the sofa bed which was fine!
I would thoroughly recommend staying here for a short trip in Rome!

  • Martin is great, and we really enjoyed the apartment. It was clean, well-furnished, and very well situated relative to the Vatican and other sites in Rome. Martin was responsive, gave good local recommendations, and was flexible with our schedule. We wouldn't hesitate to stay with him again.

  • The apartment was absolutely perfect for our purposes of a 4 day trip to Rome. Really central (literally 10 minute walk to Vatican city) with a bus stop right outside to get further into town.

Very simple interior and reasonably comfortable bed, fully kitten kitchen with mini oven) and fridge. I'd definitely recommend for younger couples or families looking for a clean and affordable solution.

Martin also offers a great airport shuttle service to take guests to and from the airport which I found very reasonable.

  • Romahouse, with its location outside of the main busy areas yet its proximity to the bus stops, was the highlight of our trip. We stayed at two other AirBnB places, but this one was by far the nicest--I'm so glad we ended our trip at Martin's place!
He met us promptly when we arrived and showed us the place and gave us some really great tips of places to see and eat at nearby.
We walked to the Vatican one day, and took the bus and train on other days to get where we needed to go, a perfect home base in a very comfortable flat.

  • We loved our flat with a view of the Vatican. It was clean and simple. Just what we needed for our short stay in Rome. Location was great - bus transportation was right outside our door and the train down the street. Martin was an enthusiastic host from picking us up at the airport to quickly taking care of any needs that we had. We highly recommend the Romahouse and will stay here again on our next visit. Thank you, Martin!!!!

  • Martin was a wonderful host!
    First, the positives:
Martin was a great host, very responsive.
Excellent location, walking distance to St. Peter's square, and across the river from the heart of Rome
    Free WiFi
Cozy little apartment (2 rooms), with a small kitchenette

    Now the negatives:
The bed is not very comfortable (very saggy)
The apartment is very noisy, from both street noise, and the people sounded like elephants playing soccer above us.
There are no true blackout curtains, so you get up early (but you're up early because of the noise)
There is no door separating the bedroom from the living area/kitchenette.
The list of restaurants Martin recommends is not up to date (we walked 30 minutes to get to one, and it is no longer there)

If you are lookiing for a true Roman experience, then this place is for you.

    Response from Martin:

Mark, thank you for the positive feedback but about some negative critics I am surprised and that's why I have to return:
    - the "early wake up" because of daylight: Did you ever close the shutters outside?
    - "saggy" bed: all our apartments are equipped with special orthopedic mattresses. You are the first who criticizes them. Usually our guest are positively surprised about the "non too soft sleeping" experiences
    - All the recommended restaurants are up to date and they are for 100% still alive! There are only 2 explanations why you had troubles: You did not find the right adress or the restaurant was closed on that day. Nearly each restaurant in Rome is at least one day closed every week. The days of holiday are written on the information sheet. Let me know which details of the opening hours the information sheet are wrong/not up to date.
    - The noise from the apartment above: I apologize for the guest who were living in the floor above during your sojourn.
    - Noise from the street: Everybody has got his subjectiv noise level dedection. Silence doesn't exist in a big city like Rome. For the most of our guest the street noise is a discreet backround noise because of the double-framed windows. Who is very sensitive and used to total silence from home Rome seems a almost unbearable noisy city and it is very difficult to find a suitable place for them in the center of Rome.

  • Martin was very helpful and provided us with information whenever we asked. Everything he did made our stay in Rome even better

  • We spent a wonderful stay in Beautiful Rome. The location of the condo is Excellent, just a few blocks to St Peter's Basilica and from there you can actually walk to all the major sites.

The apartment has all you need for having a pleasant stay, it has the perfect size, things are clean and neat. Martin our Host is simply Great, he's very friendly, helpful, gives accurate and on time information.

I definitely recommend staying here, it's a secure area in a nice building and there's a bus stop right across from it. It has a very good internet connection for those who can't help being connected while they're on vacation.

Roma House
Hi, I am Martin! I was born in Salzburg - Austria forty-three years ago. After a rather tranquil life as a teacher for music and math at a very nice place in the Austrian mountains I married my Roman girlfriend Daniela and an exciting life in the whorled capital of Italy started. Together we are managing our Romahouse holiday apartments now for nearly 14 years. It is a great experience to get known to so many different cultures from all over the world by renting apartments. This exploration of different custom and languages at work brings you sometimes a certain holiday feeling at home, too! Thus we like to cook not only pizza and pasta at home... but also delicious food from Austria across Asia beyond America inspired by our guests. In our holiday season we like to travel: Europe, Africa, Asia - sometimes cities but mostly we want to refresh our self in intact nature because this contrast from the daily "big city environment" is sometimes a necessary cure for our body and spirit. Recreated back home in Rome again we are glad to introduce our holiday experiences into our work.
