Private getaway

Guests say this area offers privacy.
Just the perfect cabin. This newly built, passive solar house has a wood-burning stove, incredible views and is drenched with light. The house is intimate yet connected to the outside, with total seclusion and every imaginable modern convenience! It’s an architect-designed marvel of concrete, glass and reclaimed wood that sits on 135 acres of field and forest with a lovely swimming pond and miles of hiking trails. The cabin sleeps up to 6 people in two bedrooms and a spacious sleeping loft.

The space
The house is nestled within Catskill State Park and is the perfect place to explore the rugged wilderness all around you. Or curl up next to the wood burning stove and chill out. In summer, take a dip in the pristine waters of our spring-fed pond and spend the night in the screened-in bunkhouse. If the ice is thick enough in winter, you can go skating.
Woodstock, Stone Ridge, New Paltz and other charming towns with plenty of restaurants and shops are an easy drive away. The “cabin” has two full bedrooms and a sleeping loft tall enough to stand in although please note that this is only accessible by a ladder so it is not suitable for small children or those afraid of heights!

Guest access
You have access to 135 acres, a swimming pond and hundreds of adjacent acres of preserved watershed land.

There is a swimming/skating pond down the hill and a number of nearby hikes, including two trails on the property. (Hiking maps are in the cabin and we are happy to share details about local hiking spots)

We also have bikes so let us know if you'd like to use them.

Other things to note
IMPORTANT: Do not throw wet wipes, tampons or anything other than toilet paper into the toilet. They will block the septic system, which will bring an abrupt and disgusting end to your stay!

Neighborhood highlights

We are 20 mins from any stores so best to do your food shopping on the way here. Ellenville & Napanoch, the closest to us, have three supermarkets, including a Walmart, and a number of excellent restaurants. There are scores of delightful towns nearby: our favorites include Stone Ridge, Rosendale, High Falls (in Ulster County) and Mountaindale, Livingston Manor, Narrowsburg and Callicoon (in the other direction, toward Sullivan County.)

Groceries: Peter’s Market is closest, in Napanoch at the junction of Rts. 209 and 55. Walmart is on 209 a little north of Napanoch and Shoprite is also on 209 a little south. Emmanuel’s is a fancier market about 30 mins away to the north on 209 in Stone Ridge.

Shopping: Woodstock, High Falls, Rosendale New Paltz and Kingston are the closest towns for serious shopping and a bit of “culture.” There are a number of antique stores all along 209 between Stone Ridge and Wurtsboro, with a cluster of shops in Accord, Rosendale and High Falls. Kingston is worth a day trip, and for the serious antique shopper, there's Hudson.

Nature: There are a number of trails on our property, and a few more that are a 5 mins drive away. The Catskill Park is all around us, and some of the nicest hiking trailheads are along the Rondout Creek /Peekamoose Rd en route to Woodstock, including the well-known Blue Hole -- though you must registered in advance to visit.
There are some lovely, very private waterfalls near us. (Ask if interested). Minnewaska Park, 40 mins away, is gorgeous but busy in summer. The Ice Caves in Cragsmor are definitely worth the trip.

Be sure to use insect repellent on your legs and ankles before heading outdoors and always check for ticks after you return.

Dining: Ellenville has Japanese/Korean, Mexican, Italian and a smattering of other good options, among them Aroma Thyme. Arrowood Farms in Accord, a 30 min drive, is a class act and and Peekamoose Restaurant in Big Indian is top notch and 50 mins away, though the drive there is breathtaking.

Shadowland Stages in Ellenville is a seriously good legitimate theater with Actors' Equity performers. Check online to see what's playing.

Horseback Riding: Try Braden Brook Stables in Greenfield Park, Juckas Stables in Pine Bush or Lucky C. Stables in New Paltz.

Flying: Yep! Wurtsboro and Ellenville airports offers glider and plane rides that take you over some breathtaking scenery.

Skiing: Belleayre isn't bad and is less than an hour away. Hunter and Windham are 20 mins further away.
