Dark Sky Tipi is located at Cottonwood Creek Cabins, on 20+ acres of West Texas beauty! Not only are you getting an amazingly unique place to stay, but also access to our property! Located just 10 minutes south of Alpine, Texas. Surrounded by amazing hills and mountains. Enjoy relaxing days and beautiful night skies. We do not have any light pollution from town, bring your telescope.

The space
Dark Sky Tipi is glamping at its finest!! Our tipi is 22 feet in diameter with a cozy queen size bed, 2 futons, and a floor mattress.

Also, inside the tipi is a microwave, Keurig and small refrigerator/freezer.

Smart TV w/roku. 2 person sitting area for eating inside.

Outside is a private patio with picnic table, chairs & hammock.

Outdoor kitchen available with your stay. Shared with guests of The Explorer’s Hideout. Includes sink, 2 burner electric cooktop, pots, pans, toaster and cooking utensils. You bring eating utensils, plates, cups, etc....Water will be turned off when temps are at/below freezing.

Bathhouse with luxury oversized shower has two separate heads. One rain head from the ceiling and one rain head on the wall. The on demand water heater ensures endless hot water. Perfect for you and your partner! Shared with guests of the Explorer’s Hideout Cabin. Heater in bathhouse and AC during the warmer months. We refresh the bathhouse daily. As well as leave disinfectant spray and hand sanitizer there.

We recommend not just staying to sleep! Utilize the property and explore!! Your nightly rate includes a stay in this unique space and access to almost 30 acres. We try to keep our rates competitive, if not lower than something similar in the Big Bend Region. This is not a basic tipi. We offer an amazing new bathhouse, porch with seating, microwave, WiFi, Smart TV, Keurig and more!
**************************************
If you’re not used to desert camping, we recommend booking one of our other vacation rentals during the hot summer months. At the tipi, we provide 2 tower fans and are able to open the smoke flaps when no rain is in the forecast, to keep it cooler inside. Although it is much cooler than a tent would be, it is still warmer than the outside in the summer, during the day. Because we are located at 5,250 ft in elevation, we typical cool to around 60-65° at night. Great for sleeping!!

During the colder months: one heated mattress pad on queen bed, 2 electric blankets, 1 electric fireplace & 1 tower heater are available in tipi. Be sure to bring warm clothing and additional blankets during colder months, as needed. No water to sink in outdoor kitchen when temps are at or below freezing.

Guest access
During your stay, you will have access to the entire tipi, the beautiful bathhouse (shared with guests of the Explorer’s Hideout), 3 walking paths. Totaling nearly 2 miles. There is a slight hill at the start of our large trail. Outdoor kitchen (shared with Explorer’s Hideout).

Volleyball, basketball hoop and horseshoe pit (shared w/other guests) available to use as well.

Your nightly rate includes a stay in this unique space and access to almost 30 acres for exploring.

Other things to note
We are taking extra precautions in regards to sanitizing our rentals. This includes using hospital grade disinfectant spray. If you are feeling ill or have possibly been exposed to COVID-19, please delay your trip to West Texas.

*Outdoor kitchen is open on one side. Even tho we do a thorough cleaning, there is potential for dirt.

*NO FIRES OR GRILLS!!! You will be asked to leave if we see signs of either. We are under a burn ban the majority of the year and it is an extreme hazard. Thanks for understanding. There is an outdoor kitchen for you to use, many restaurants in Alpine and a microwave is available in tipi.

*The Tipi is NOT weatherproof. We take every precaution, but the elements or occasional critter may come visit! This is West Texas folks! It is all part of the experience.

*Sleeping in a tipi is similar to camping in that it is not soundproof. You may hear things outside or noises from the canvas and wooden poles that the tipi is made from.

*We do have a rain guard on top of the tipi to keep out rain; however, residual rain coming inside is always a possibility during strong storms.

*We provide a few k-cup pods for the Keurig, to get you started. Please bring your favorite for the remainder of your stay. We also provide sugar and creamer.

*Tower fan provided. No AC. Electric fireplace heater in tipi.

During the colder months: one heated mattress pad on queen bed, 2 electric blankets and 1 electric fireplace, 1 tower heater are available in tipi. Be sure to bring warm clothing and additional blankets during colder months, as needed. No water to sink in outdoor kitchen during the winter months.

*The bathhouse is across from the tipi. Bathhouse has heating/air. Shared with guests of the Explorer’s Hideout.

*Walking paths are shared with guests of our other rentals.

* Southwest Texas has the most amazing views of the night sky. Step out at night for the show! Bring your telescope! Be sure to look out for amazing sunsets and sunrises.

* Enjoy the multitudes of wildlife from anywhere on the property. Keep your eye out for Whitetail deer and mule deer, Javelina‘s, jackrabbits, road runners hummingbirds and many other animals.

*Great place for birdwatching, bring your binoculars.

*The tipi has board/card games, smart TV(w/roku), Wi-Fi, and a hammock for relaxing.

*We welcome children of all ages. Please keep in mind that we do not have a crib available and the bathroom has a shower, no tub. Tipi is not childproof.

*We provide fresh sheets, blankets, pillows, towels and toilet paper.

*Security camera located on outside of bathhouse pointing towards entrance of driveway.

*There might be slight road noise from dirt road. However it is not busy with traffic and shouldn’t be an issue. Just as if you were camping, you may here some noises.

My husband Marty and I re-located to west Texas from Michigan. What a change! :o) We have adventured and experienced all that the area has to offer. Don't hesitate to ask us about exciting things to see and do. We love enjoying the amazing scenery. From the magnitude of wildlife to the wildflowers and cactus, there is a never ending list of things to enjoy in the Alpine area. We frequent Big Bend National Park and love to go on spur of the moment drives to see new things. I enjoy going for walks along our property and relaxing on the porch. We look forward to meeting you!
