Located at Center For Lost Arts, this tiny home was created by architectural home builder & furniture craftsman, Paul J. Frank. Consisting of over ten types of wood, the design gives the tiny house a feel of a larger home while maintaining a cozy feel & simplicity. This home serves as a model home for potential buyers & beginning August 1st will have a long-term resident.

The space
Guests have the tiny house to themselves. Due to Covid-19, we are asking guests to bring their own bedding, towels and dishtowels as well as take their garbage & recycling with them. Our price has been reduced accordingly. If this is not possible for you, we will make accommodations. The tiny house is winter-ready with excellent insulation & radiant floor heating and summer friendly with an efficient air conditioning system. It's a sweet spot with a large window facing the forest and sunset. The loft has a raised ceiling(6"3) so it feels like a full bedroom up there where you can sleep with the stars. There is a full shower, toilet, and a basic kitchen(kettle, french press, toaster oven, fridge, crock pot, electric skillet & induction plate) and all cooking utensils and dishes. If you're missing anything we're happy to provide it. Small Weber grill is out on the deck. There are various locations on the property for outdoor fires. We have an on-site farmer so ask what's in season if you want to purchase anything.

Guest access
The entire tiny home is yours to use. You can park right next to the deck after going around the circle drive, for easy unloading. You are welcome to visit the greenhouse, gardens and walk the trails around the pond. We have an outdoor woodstove that heats the radiant floor in both the tiny house and the main house. It's behind the tiny house and we keep it going in the winter. T/he house will be set to a comfortable temperature for all times of year. You can adjust the unit in the loft if you like. The steps to the loft require some agility, but the grab bar makes it fairly easy. Stepping down is easiest forward, not backward like a ladder. You'll get the hang of it.

Other things to note
This listing is set to not allow pets. Rickie Lee Jones is a cat who has often stayed at the tiny home(she thinks Paul built the tiny for her after she arrived on our property at 4 weeks old). You can request a better cleaning and no cats if you have allergies. Our other spot, Eva's Roost, hasn't ever had a cat. Currently we are doing major cleaning/sanitizing during Covid-19.

Such a great area. Southernmost Illinois is quite unique. You can read more about it under our Center For Lost Arts - Eva's Roost listing or in the guidebook.

I am a spiritual director, retreat facilitator and mindfulness & meditation teacher who loves to travel and also loves to come home. I like to stay in places that are simple and cozy. I am a social person, but also enjoy time alone reading, walking, meditating or being creative. I grow food organically with my partner and love to share our produce with guests at our retreat house. When I travel, I seek out restaurants that support local farmers and I share local places like this with guests at my retreat house. I am curious and love adventure, so appreciate tips on great places to visit, eat or explore. Having been hosted by many others in my life, I have loved offering the Homestead Retreat for others to enjoy. I wanted it to be a peaceful place to stay and that even if you just showed up with a toothbrush, you would have all that you need! In August of last year, my partner Paul and I added Eva's Roost Retreat to our Airbnb listings. This sweet zen-style cottage has large windows overlooking the pond and forest & is a quiet & private space to retreat for one or two people. We are well into our third year of being listed on Airbnb and loving every minute. We look forward to welcoming you.

During your stay
I am available by text during your stay. You are also welcome to come up to the main house, usually via the kitchen door facing the pond & call for one of us(during Covid-19 we aren't doing tours of the main house). We consider our kitchen a "community kitchen," so please help yourself if you need something or you want to use the oven(during Covid-19 ask if you're missing something. You are welcome to ask for a tour of the main house and/or Eva's Roost(if no one is staying there). Some guests are interested in the furniture building, gardening and other things going on. Others are happy to do their own thing and we hardly see them. You be you :)
