Staying with Maki in her house in Kyoto was a real pleasure. This was the first time we stayed in a private house in Japan and it was a very nice experience. We immediately felt like welcome. The house is a little bit far of the city center but that is compensated by it's location near the silver temple and the philosphers path. This really is a very nice and quiet location.
Maki is a great host! We had a wonderful stay with her and the two cats. The room was Japanese style with a beautiful view of the mountain. The house is located near Ginzakuji. The transportation is also convenient, we took a 2-min walk to take the No.3 bus every day. Maki is sooo nice and helpful, we got lots of great recommendation from her. We also had nice talk. We'll miss Makiko and the cats!
Maki is an excellent host, always ensuring that we are comfortable and have everything we need. She brought us out to town on our first night for dinner and showed us the way around Kyoto. She also recommended us to take the 1-day pass for city buses for 500yen/pax, which saves us a lot of money. The city buses go to all the attractions within Kyoto and even to Arayashiyama. It is also the most value for money as you will need to take bus to return to her place, unless you are cycling: one bus out and one bus back. She provided us with maps and all the information we need, and recommended some of the local favourites. Though her place is located on a uphill, it was a good exercise after eating so much in Kyoto! With that, it might not be too suitable for the elderly and or if you are traveling with young children. Ginkaku and The Philosopher's Walk are within walking distance from her place, which is perfect to fit them into our itinerary as we arrive after lunch.
Maki offers the perfect location to stay in Kyoto. I spent 7 days there. Using her bike to ride around Kyoto is something I'll never forget. She provided me with detailed information about the places I wanted to visit.
We had dinner in downtown together on the first night and enjoyed many interesting conversations during our stay. It was a pleasure to be a guest at here home.
We felt at home from the moment we arrived. The house is on a hill, seems rather far away at first sight but is actually very close to the silver pavillon and to a bus stop. We used Maki's bicyles most of the time, and found our own paths along quiet canals in order to go to the city center and to Kyoto's main attractions.
Maki is a very nice and interesting person and was very helpful. Our stay in Kyoto was the highlight of our trip thanks to her.
When coming to the house from the station the first day (with luggages), I would advise going by taxi. Otherwise everything can be done by bus and bicycle.
The house is very clean and cosy, with beautiful views above Kyoto. Note that there are two (very nice) cats but they did not disturb at all.
We had a wonderful stay at Maki's place. She is such a gracious host that we immediately felt at home. She took us around town on our first night and recommended some of the best places to visit in Kyoto. She has two cute and friendly cats that kept us company and the view is indeed breathtaking. For those who plan on staying here, watching the sun set from the porch is a must. I would recommend this place to anyone who plan on staying in Kyoto, it truly is Kyoto's best room with a view.
