Staying at Kelly's Sugar Shacks is the quintessential Airbnb experience, surrounded by avocado and macadamia Nut tree's on a working coffee farm, we were immersed in the spirit's of an older Hawaii, the Captain Cook area still tell stories of ancient nobility buried all around the hills, you can hear them traveling the old foot paths to the sea on stormy nights. Kelly's husband Kim, who built the shacks, is the big Islands master wood flooring specialist, the shacks are built to last with beautiful soft wood flooring and attentive details uncommon at this price point, plus you get a jar of wonderful Kona coffee beans grown right on the farm.

I know that everyone else has just raved about this magical place - we add to all that! The Shack was just adorable, private, cozy and comfortable to the max - everything had been thought of! Great convenient location and abundant macadamia nuts, papayas, avocados, frogs, birds. Kelly was super easy to reach and very helpful. We even got to meet Kim and what great conversations we had with him - both so very charming and kind. Highly highly recommend!

This is a very cool spot and Kelly and her husband have made it very cozy. You feel like you are staying in a tropical cabin in the woods. You can even eat avocados and lemons straight from the trees outside! The place was also very clean which I appreciated.

Kelly and Kim were such gracious and welcoming hosts. They respected our privacy but were always available to answer questions and provided great tips (don't miss Manini beach- a local favorite without the tourists and crowds!) and we loved our daily visits by kitty Pong. We had the privlege of enjoying the Sugar Shack for an entire month and couldn't have felt more at home- as full time travelers a welcome respite! The location was perfect for us as we wanted to be away from the tourist fray but close enough to town for shopping, Farmers Markets, restaurants and lovely snorkeling beaches (the unit provided chairs, umbrella, snorkel equip., beach towels, etc. which was greatly appreciated). We love to source local food (although there are plenty of fruits on the property for guests) and cook up a storm so the well stocked kitchen was fabulous! The bed was super comfy, loved the shower, having a water & dryer was great and frankly spent most all of our time on the lovely outside deck set amidst papaya, macadamia nut and tropical flowers- which was our all time favorite spot for morning coffee & breakfast and as the day wound down cocktails and dinner. We didn't use the firepit during our stay but the set up is awesome. There are local stores and restaurants nearby (check out The Coffee Shack for an awesome breakfast and views) but you will need a car as stated in the profile. The place is located in a working coffee and Mac nut plantation as well as a wood working shop which is clearly stated in the overview, however we only heard the saw a couple of times during our stay and was not a bother for us. We arrived as strangers and left as friends. Mahalo Kelly and Kim!

Kelly was a great host! She was quickly accessible via phone/text, but we also had complete privacy. The Sugar Shack is awesome and was one of our favorite places that we stayed. The space is great because you have a separate bedroom and living area, plus lots of outdoor space (like a lovely and private balcony/patio where we ate breakfast among the lush greenery). It is not on the beach, but within a quick drive to several. Pretty close to the airport too (20-30 mins). Great value for the price! Would definitely stay there again.

My husband and I are in our mid-50's. We grow our own label 100% Kona coffee August-Jan. We've been building soil over time, and apply the good stuff to our farmland. There is a small wood shop where we use hardwoods and craft custom wood flooring. On occasion, you will see us in the garden when not attending our children and farm animals. Husband+Wife of 28+yrs, parents of 3 children. We share our love of communication and hospitality, and welcome world travelers. This is the 'Land of Tropical Waters, Plentiful Fruits, Fragrant Flowers, and Funny Animals.' Come and join us!
