The Space

Hello dear traveller!
This architectural award-winning studio has soul, colour, artful elegance, quiet, and a beautiful oak floor, piano to play, and queen sized organic bedding, soft bamboo sheets and towels, and a bathtub for soaking, washer-dryers in the building just down hall, fully adorned kitchen, two extra single bedding mattresses for sleeping on, and the longest thickest wall couch you have ever seen, think Morocco!

This large studio apartment (800 square feet) has 10ft tall ceilings, exposed wooden beams, a beautiful view over homes and treetops and is facing south for good sunlight and warmth. There is a pool nearby (three blocks) and during the summer a great outdoor pool for kids down at the waterfront park (about a 15 minute walk away, or quick drive).

Other perks are a spa (for facials, pedicures, waxing) two doors away outside, lovely Italian altering services, great Asian and European food, drugstores, post office, cafes, great organic food shopping, really unique shopping, its all here within a two block radius.

Up on the building's rooftop garden, there are barbecues, picnic tables and a 360degree gorgeous view of the city, water, and mountains. Its on a very busy street when you arrive, but as you enter you come to the back where its very quiet. Centred in a fantastic old Italian and now multicultural neighbourhood (called both Hastings Sunrise and The East Village), with some of the best delis, restaurants and old Italian home gardens around the city! So you can take a nice quiet walk in the morning before heading into the city or up to Simon Fraser University.

It's fifteen to 20 minutes by bus (easily accessed and running often) to downtown (which links to Skytrain), easy to bus or drive to the North Shore (ten to fifteen minutes to beautiful wilderness trails and mountains) and within walking distance of the car coop Modo and CarToGo pick up sites. We are also about a 15 minute walk to the Commercial Drive area, another funky and fun 'hood. The suite is also 5 minutes from the Hwy #1 or 99, so you can quickly orient around to different parts of town. You can also bus or drive quickly to a SkyTrain station (Nanaimo Station) which takes you all over town.

I will leave you a wonderful studio guide book with maps to Vancouver and all the amazing places you should go to while here, and otherwise I will leave you alone! Everyone who has stayed here has said they adore this unique abode.

By the way, parking is free and easy. Space includes wireless internet, TV. I do have a wall projector you can also plug your laptop into to watch films on the wall.

On beds, there is one Queen size (new-ish organic mattress) Murphy Bed, super comfy, and then there is a long and wide bench with cushions on it that become single beds (2) that are six feet long each and 3.5 ft wide. Lots of people have slept on them with good feedback! :-), There are enough single sheets for those two SINGLE size beds. So if you were a family with two say school aged children, they could sleep on the couch and single sheets would be provided for them.

I am a health nut, so absolutely no smoking in the house (or your damage deposit will be kept), and prefer that heavy drinkers or those with party plans stay elsewhere.

If you want a quiet, peaceful space to nest into, feel welcomed. Generally the building is quiet between 11pm and 7am.

Best and happy travel wishes!

Guest Access

Guests have access to the whole apartment (not host present), and rooftop gardens/barbecues and bike storage room.

Interaction with Guests

This depends on the guest's needs. I meet them or have a friend meet them for check-in, we walk around the building, I help orient to parking and neighbourhood/bus routes, maps of city. I am always accessible by cell phone or arrange for someone else to be. You will be well taken care of! But once you are settled, I like to leave guests to their vacation and will not bother you.

The Neighborhood

I feel safe in this multicultural neighbourhood, full of restaurants galore. There are about ten restaurants in a two block radius, actually maybe more from all over the world.
There is a pool nearby, one at an oceanside park, one in a park, and also a library, drugstore, post office, great grocers.

Getting around

There is transit every five to ten minutes to drop you off in front of the building or take you downtown or near to the Skytrain. Its very easy to walk to almost anything you might need here. Its one bus to Stanley Park or UBC, and its about a 15-20 minute bus ride downtown from here.

Other Things to Note

I have a piano you can play, and drums, other music instruments may or may not be here. The kitchen is very well stocked, almost any type of cooking utensil will be here for you, and you have access to a complete spice kit, olive and other oils, vinegars etc, at no charge. The kitchen fridge is always fully cleaned and emptied for you. The linens are lovely thread count, and freshly laundered. The towels are either very soft cotton or bamboo and so I take pride in leaving the space much like you'd find it in hotel. The bathroom is usually also stocked with some toiletries for your use.

  • Anna is a great host and made us feel very welcome. She gave us a tour of the apartment and the rooftop terrace and pointers to places to visit and eat. The apartment was just like in the pictures and comfortable for our family of four. The location is very convenient to the tourist attractions, and it was great having restaurants around the corner. I appreciated Anna going out of her way and having the kitchen stocked with basics like milk, a variety of tea bags, and coffee. All in all, it was a great experience and I would highly recommend Anna's B&B.

  • Hi Anna,
We thank you a lot for this wonderful apartment. We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful place. We never needed to search for a parking spot and it was really close to downtown. Also the roof terrace with the BBQ was really nice and from there we hade a good view over the city while we eat.

  • Anna was a wonderful host! Everything was clean and ready for us upon our arrival. She was kind enough to show us around the building, including the absolutely beautiful roof deck! Her place was a large and cozy at the same time. There was plenty of space for all of us to sleep, and the beds were super comfortable. The kitchen was stocked with the basics and she left a large folder full of nearby restaurant menus. The neighborhood is wonderful, lots of places to eat and easy access to other Vancouver neighborhoods. We felt very welcomed in Anna's apartment. I'd definitely stay again!

  • We, a family with 2 young kids, stayed almost a week in Anna her beautiful studio.
We really enjoyed. Used the amazing rooftop many days for breakfast. We were lucky with extraordinary warm weather (studio stayed also quite warm although the 2 windows were open day and night) so the roof was a great solution!
One afternoon we used the projector for watching a family movie. Lots of fun :-) and the kids also liked a lot the many music instruments in the studio!
We unfortunately haven't met Anna, one of her neighbors welcomed us (warmly).
We have explored Vancouver, the region and even Whistler by car and the commute from the studio to everything was easy.
    I can recommend her place!

  • Fabulous host and a lovely apartment that was well equipped, clean, comfortable, quiet and beautifully furnished. Easy access to Downtown with excellent local places to eat. Highly recommended.

  • We had a great time at Anna's awesome studio apartment

    - Fully equipped kitchen
    - Spacious enough for 3 adults
    - Bathroom is separated from the living space
    - Convenient to get around
    - Gorgeous rooftop garden patio

    Slight disadvantages:
    - No designated parking space but we parked a few blocks away and that was no problem
    - A bit of a fruit fly infestation but I don't think it has anything to do with the apartment specifically - believe it's more of an issue that Vancouver is having

All and all, the perfect place for us :)

  • Don't worry about there not being a television, this is an amazing place to stay. This large bedsitter with a library of inspiring books, amazing fittings and a stainless steel kitchen is great to come back to at night, all within a building set up as an artists retreat.
Anna is very friendly and generous.

  • Anna's studio is spacious and cozy. It offers both the city puls and the comfort of a quiet home away from the busy E Hastings Street. We really enjoyed the rooftop garden with a gorgeous view over the city and mountains. I would definite recommend it!

  • The space is beautiful and felt like home. Everything besides the wifi and a working TV or projector was available; from a piano, to a magic bullet for morning smoothies, to beautifully comfortable bedding.. Anna was very sweet and took care of the shoddy wifi almost immediately and had a new router put in during our stay. The Suite is gorgeous and over looks cherry blossom lined streets, with most amenities within walking distance. I do feel fortunate to have had both a car and a bike while in Vancouver however, as the location is far enough away from commercial, Main st, downtown or Kitsilano to warrant an extra mode of transport. The location is amazing for heading to the North Shore or East of Vancouver.
    Would definitely recommend.
