Dominicalito is 30 minutes south of Manuel Antonio. This is a special place where a series of (phone number hidden) foot jungle mountain ridges meet the ocean, one of the only places and the longest distance that this happens in Central America. It is a section of about 12 miles with Dominical at the center of it all. The highest point of Costa Rica, Cerro Chirripo at 12,530 feet is directly inland only 35 miles as a toucan flies. But it is the ocean and beaches that Dominical is most well-known for and also our central location to several close-by, well-known National Parks.
Dominicalito is a small village just 5 minutes south of the main village Dominical. Below are just a small list of things to do in the area.
A 4x4 vehicle is highly recommended.
The house is 30 minutes from the Quepos airport
No pets allowed.
Not suitable for very young kids.
Smoking allowed in certain areas.
This home made our vacation an absolute dream. I don't think anything could prepare us for what we actually experienced. Let's start at the beginning.
We drove to Domincal after spending a night in San Jose. The drive down was full of speculation about the property and what might exist in the jungle it was situated upon. When we arrived in Dominical, Laura met with us and graciously let us grab a bite to eat before heading to the property.
She led us up the mountain road, through the river, over the bridge, and to the vine covered Jurrassic Park-looking gate. We were speachless as the view opened to a most magical villa nestled on top of the jungle. We were greeted by Fernando and Evelyn, both of which were very nice and made us feel welcome. The property was better than expected and the pictures can't really convey the attention to detail and the amazing landscaping. We enjoyed the way the home was situated and how different it was from any other place we had stayed before. This home instantly captivates. The grounds facilitated a child like desire for exploration.
Waking up each morning, to the personable hollar monkeys, was like waking up in a tropical haven. Throughout the week we enjoyed the fluttering morpha blue butterflies that frequented the botanical garden that made all the grounds smell like Chanel No. 5. We sipped champagne and ate fresh pineapple on the gazebo overlooking the ocean and jungle canopy. We hiked through Jungle Book-looking trails that led us to a river where the monkeys congregate. The pool was an agreed necessity of the group and we spent many hours just tooling around sipping cocktails. We even enjoyed cooking fresh fish meals in the open kitchen with the brand new pots and pans.
Several homes in Costa Rica advertised "no AC necessary," but just a bit of air conditioning in these villas was extremely refreshing to our spoiled selves. We even enjoyed the book collection that was provided so we could identify several of the tropical plants and animals. Zoe really took the guess work out of getting a "lay for the land" with the intimately detailed binder which saved us time and was greatly appreciated. We were able to find the best restaurants, grocery markets, bars, shops, and local hang outs. Although we felt isolated in the jungle, our location was surprising close to all the venues and excursions that were recommend to us by Laura.
This property couldn't have facilitated a more perfect Costa Rican retreat. Thank you so much for sharing your home.
Zoe provided a complete list of accurate contact information for activities, restaurants and their locations. This is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. We had a wonderful time!
We loved the little Balinese house very much, the dipping pool was the highlight, although, the gardens and the howler monkey's were awesome and surreal and it was very much like a little paradise. The views were stunning. On one side you see the mountain and on the other you look over the ocean, it was such a perfect spot to get the best of both.
The house itself was gorgeous and quite airy, if it did get too hot during the day, we would just jump into the dipping pool and we enjoyed it quite a lot.
The only cons would be the perfumey toilet paper, the non stick pots and pans and the ultra modern kitchen design which in my experience tends to look good but constantly needs repairs, which was the case (I think) with the faucet coming loose from the base.
Everyone, especially Laura was WONDERFUL, our arrival was smooth, and communication was perfect. We unfortunately almost lost our keys, but everyone was very nice about it and we did finally find them.
I would highly recommend a stay here! :)
The pictures of Zoe's house didn't begin to do it justice. The grounds are truly spectacular! My brother, sister and I rented the property for a family getaway and we felt like we were at a beautiful resort that was made just for the 3 of us. The paths that meandered around the "houses" are beautifully planted with a variety of of exotic flowers and fruit trees. The hiking trails that encircle the six acres are immaculately groomed and take you down to rivers that border the property on two sides.
We loved the separate pavilion that is placed on a grassy knoll overlooking the ocean. We found it a great place to have morning coffee or evening cocktails.
Laura, the caretaker for the property was delightful and very helpful with suggestions on restaurants, beaches etc.
Fernando and his wife, Evelyn were also very kind and Evelyn even cooked for us one night.
The closest beach (Dominicalito) and the local waterfall (Pozo Azul) were also favorites of ours. The town of Domincal is fun for a visit and very close by.
We also loved the design of the 3 pavilions and the fact that you could go to bed at night with all the doors open and hear the sounds of the rivers, ocean and jungle.
I highly recommend this property if you are 2 couples vacationing together or a couple with 2 or 3 children.
Thank you so much for a wonderful stay at your amazing property.
The villa is in an absolutely spectacular setting. The buildings and grounds are beautifully designed and impeccably maintained. It is truly a tropical paradise, from the gardens of flowers and fruit trees to the incredible private jungle with paths and flora, fauna and animals (including monkeys, sloths, toucans and other birds) that rival Manuel Antonio and other popular destinations. Waking up in our own private jungle was truly an extraordinary experience.
We really appreciated all the information you provided prior to our stay, and all the logistics went very smoothly. Laura provided wonderful onsite support and property management, and she and Fernando were immediately available to resolve a couple of small issues that arose during our stay. The staff were welcoming, friendly and so helpful.
Our family of four, including our 19 and and 22 year old daughters, loved the close proximity to fabulous beaches like Playa Domenicalito, Playa Hermosa, Playa Uvita, Playa Ventana; and local restaurants like Porque No, the Jolly Roger, and Citrus in Ojochal. The location is perfect for exploring the coastline and we looked forward to coming back each day to our private retreat, a dip in the pool, and spectacular sunsets from the magical rancho overlooking the ocean. The drive up the hill (a 4x4 is definitely recommended) is totally worth the experience of a private oasis.
We loved every minute of our visit, and highly and enthusiastically recommend this property to anyone looking for a very special, beautiful, private and natural setting. Thank you for this wonderful experience.

It is hard to describe how perfect this home is. As one of the first renters for this property, it had no prior reviews and we took a chance that the pictures and description were portrayed honestly. But in actuality, neither words nor pictures can describe how idyllic it is here.
The property is just minutes off the main coastal route, but has ultimate privacy and creates the feeling of a true Costa Rica jungle experience. At the same time, the home is so smartly and beautifully designed, you also feel like you are vacationing in your own private 5-star resort. Perfect beds, amazing showers, stunning pool, incredible ocean views-- there is nothing that is less than spectacular.
There are great trails for hiking right from the front door, and within minutes of our adventure we were swimming under warm waterfalls and watching monkeys swing from tree to tree. But then when we were ready for the beach, it was just two minutes away.
Zoe made it as easy as possible to rent, and once there, we were made to feel like we owned the home ourselves. Her property managers were both extremely helpful but never intrusive.
When we left, we went to a highly rated 5-star resort on the Pacific Coast, but it felt shallow and uninspiring by comparison. We even discussed leaving the hotel and seeing if we could rent Zoe's home again for just one more night—but that would have been risky because we probably never would have left. Find out for yourself—this is truly one very special place.
