The Good: The location of this place is amazing. It is right on the river, and the tree-house looked over it. We got to swim in the river and walk around the village. The room itself was very basic (in a good way!) and clean. (Although the room could be improved by putting in some lampshades! We ended up making our own out of leaves!) The food we were served was delicious and ample! Especially good were the breakfasts!
The Bad: Sachin was not (and I don't think ever is) on site - it's not so much an airbnb as a hotel arrangement. His manager - Ms Vini - was not on site either however, and as such the service was lacking a little. The staff were polite and the such but not very helpful in arranging things for us. The promised camp fire never materialised and worst of all they blared out the TV (in the main hut, adjacent to the tree-house) 24/7 - the whole point of coming to a place like this is to be in nature away from such noises! That was very disappointing.
Sachin and his co-worker Miss Vani were very good (absent) hosts - they weren't on site (but in Bangalore) but both called to check everything was OK. The hotel managers on site were very helpful and attentive. The tree house was wonderful. Bear in mind it is simple living, with a basic (hard) bed, but a flushing toilet and shower, and lovely sitting areas. What a spot - right next to the Kalindi River, downstream from the Papanasini River at the Thirunelli Temple in which hindus believe their sins will be washed away. The tree house is part of a resort, so less isolated that it seems on Air BnB (see (website hidden)). About 15 minute walk to temple, about 15 minute jeep ride to Tholpetty entrance to reserve.
This is not so much a review of Sachin but the place he has on offer in Wayanad - It is absolutely fantastic. It is in a very remote part of the Wayanad forest with a small stream running by. In the tree house you are living close to nature whith the noises of the forest all around. But on top of this, his friend Sanjay and his team to look after you. We were welcomed with a cup of chai and had all the food and drink we wanted when we wanted. - We paid Sanjay for this but it was very reasonable. Sanjay also took us for a night drive to look for wild elephants - which we saw!! He also arranged for someone to drive back to Kannur on the coast.
As well as the bamboo house there there is a more solid building with ensuite rooms which we also stayed in some nights. My partner wanted some more home comfort :-) The bamboo house is a bit like glamping - I loved it!!
All accommodation was very basic but the location and the staff made it all worthwhile. Thanks to Sachin, Sanjay and his team.
