About this listing
Cozy & clean apartment , great location. Many services within walking distance. FOR YOUR COMFORT, WE OFFER: BEDS MADE DAILY, CLEANING TWICE A WEEK.
Spanish, Portuguese, French, English and Italian spoken (and a little Russian too... :-D)
IMPORTANT: we have made a few changes in decoration in some parts of the apartment. The first foto still shows the old style. We only kept it because it was taken by a professional airbnb photographer. The following ones show the apartment as it is now.
Nice, quiet, two-bedroom apartment, located in wonderful Polanco, in Mexico City. It has a recently remodelled bathroom, a living room and a fully equipped kitchen (refrigerator, microwave oven, stove, dishwasher, pots and pans, china, etc.). You can cook your own meals and save a lot of money.
The main bedroom has a bed a little smaller than queen size, but it easily fits 2 adults. There's also a futon that can accomodate 2 children under ten. Wireless internet and cable TV are available too.
The other room is small but very cozy . It has a single bed, a puff and a cupboard. It is ideal for one adult or child.
All of this is for your private use only. This apartment is on the ground floor. The apartment where I live with my mother and my seven-year old son is upstairs.
The apartment is within walking distance of:
3 convenience stores
1 Costco store
4 top quality shopping malls
2 museums hosting important art collections
the Red Cross main hospital in Mexico and one of the finest private hospitals in the country (Hospital Español).
several typically Mexican restaurants.
1 very good "taquería"
3 European-style bakeries
3 Starbuck's Coffeehouses
3 dry cleaners
a beautiful street for pedestrians where you can jog, walk or rollerskate
3 Catholic churches and 1 Synagogue (a Lutheran church is also available although it is 15 minutes away by taxi)
a health club (you only pay for the days on which you actually use their facilities)
A Curves gym, where you can work out for free if you already are a member of Curves in another city or country.
2 taxi service providers whichoffer safe transportation
Every Tuesday, there is a street market 2 blocks away where you can find fresh fruit, vegetables and dairy products as well as sample a nice variety of Mexico's famous "street food" (if you have an adventurous stomach!).
The apartment is about a mile away from the wonderfully cosmopolitan "Zona de Polanco" or "Polanquito" where you can walk around and enjoy its many attractions (in a wide price range), such as restaurants, bars, coffeehouses, nightclubs, boutiques, bookstores, playground, park and art galleries, not to mention the famous Masaryk Avenue, Mexico City's most sophisticated street, featuring all the chic stores (Vuiton, Tiffany, etc.).
The apartment is less than a block away from the "Periférico", Mexico City's main highway. If you get on a bus or taxi on that highway, you can easily (10 to 40 minutes depending on traffic) get to several of the city's main sightseeing spots such as the "Bosque de Chapultepec" (Mexico City' s own Central Park), the Zoo, the Museum of Anthropology (one of the most important, if not THE most important museum in the country), our very own gorgeuos European- style historic castle which has an amazing view of the city), the Tamayo Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, featuring one of Frida Kahlo's most beautiful and famous paintings), the National Auditorium and one of the city's most beautiful streets, the Avenida Reforma, with its famous Statue of Independence.
If you enjoy walking, you can also get to these spots by foot, going through the beautiful streets of Polanco.
At the auditorium, you can get on the Turibus, which will drive you around the city's main hallmarks, such as the Zocalo Square, the Cathedral and the Palace of Fine Arts. You can get off at any of those spots so you can visit them and then get on again later. If you get off at the Antara Shopping mall stop, you can actually walk back to the apartment (it is 5 minutes away).
A little farther away down the Periférico (15 to 50 minutes, again depending on traffic) you can find the Children's Museum and the "La feria" Amusement Park.
Here are some more amenities we can offer you:
Our cleaning lady will make the bed and clean the bathroom and kitchen every day except for Sundays (no extra-fee for that).
If you want, she can wash and iron your clothes for you, for a small extra-fee.
We provide linens, towels and bars of soap
In case you feel a little nervous about coming to a foreign country and maybe having trouble communicating, I want to let you know that I speak Spanish, Portuguese, French, English ,Italian and a little bit of Russian. But we can always stick to Spanish if you want to practice.
THERE ARE A FEW THING YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE YOU BOOK WITH US, THOUGH:
I have two dogs, and although they are not allowed inside the house and you would practically have zero contact with them, if you don't like dogs, you might prefer to stay at a pet-free place. They are over ten years-old, so they are very quiet and they never bark. They only go through the apartment once a day (on a leash) when they go out for their walk, around noon. We wash the courtyard where they live twice a day, so it is very clean.
I have a seven year-old son, so, even though he spends most of his time upstairs (not to mention he is at school from 8:00 am till 1:40 pm), hearing the sound of his voice or of him playing on his ipad are to be expected from time to time.
Smoking is not allowed in the apartment and neither are loud parties or heavy drinking.
NO ONE besides airbnb guests is allowed in the apartment. We are sorry about this rule but we have implemented it both for our and our guests' security. No dates or friends allowed in the apartment.
You will have completely independent access to your apartment: 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and a living space (kitchen, living room, a bar for eating)
Interaction with Guests
There is always someone at the apartment and in the building to assist you in any way you might need. Whether it is me, or my mother, our cleaning lady or the super, we will be happy to help you out.

To describe myself, I guess I could say I am an easy-going person, who tries to live everyday to its fullest which to me, means feeling happy and grateful for being alive and for the opportunity to spend time with family and friends, to work at something I really like and to do things that to me, are fun and interesting.
I am a teacher. I love my job since it allows me to share with other people one of my greatest passions in life: languages! I teach French and Portuguese on a regular basis and English and Spanish occasionally. Growing up, I was really lucky to be in contact with several languages; Spanish and Portuguese because I am half Mexican and half Brazilian, French because I studied at a school where all subjects were taught in French and most teachers were French themselves, English because it is all around us (in movies, music, the internet, and well, the truth is you are kind of left out from many things that are going on in the world if you don't speak it) and Italian and Russian out of sheer love! My dream would be to speak Russian fluently but right now, I can't say that I am close to that goal! So, in that way, being a teacher is not really a job for me. Rather, it is doing something I love and getting paid on top of that. But, as much as I love my job I really enjoy having time for myself. There are many things I like to do on my spare time; although since my son was born, I can't say I have a lot of that left...But, when I do have one or two hours to spare, I usually spend them reading, cooking, meditating, watching movies, entertaining my friends, checking my account since it's the way I keep in touch with my friends and family who live far away, or just relaxing at home. Although I am not big on sports, I really enjoy going for long walks around my neighborhood, especially early in the morning. I usually take my dogs along, they just love socializing with the neighborhood dogs.
I really like having family or friends over for a couple of days for several reasons. For one, I love taking care of them, making sure they have as nice a time as possible. And also, hosting people that are not from around, helps me see my hometown with different eyes, I guess I could say, from a visitor's perspective, for whom things are new and interesting and different. And that helps me appreciate more and truly love the place where I live, in spite of the inevitable problems that come with living in such a big city. And, last but not least, I think one of life's greatest gifts is the possibility of meeting new people, with different views and experiences and yet with many things in common.
Because of those reasons I love being an airbnb host and I dare say I think my team (my mom and Mary, our housekeeper) and I do a good job of it.
