A chill, luxury apartment for two located just blocks from the ocean in the town of Kill Devil Hills. Find refuge after a busy day of beaching it! Unplug, kick back, watch the waves at the end of the road or take in a world class sunset just blocks away. You'll have a fully equipped kitchen for making meals but there is also good food & coffee real close by.

The space
Located above our retail store & sweet shop, which is a local hangout, the apartment is 600 square feet of sun soaked space with solid oak floors and Outer Banks history throughout. Locally salvaged antique heart pine doors, a 1970's bookshelf in the living room which came from the original Kitty Hawk Country Store, and stools in the kitchen from a long closed schoolhouse inject a bit of old school Outer Banks charm into the space. Local art & photography we've collected over the years hang on the walls and vintage rugs are juxtaposed against the clean modern lines of our new & comfortable furnishings. The apartment reflects the vibe of our shop downstairs, mixing a curated collection of vintage & new that we hope you'll enjoy.

In the morning you can pop downstairs & let us make you a healthy smoothie or acai bowl, or stay in & cook up a big breakfast in the fully equipped apartment kitchen. After a day at the beach, cruise back and rinse off in the walk-in shower then chill on the deck with a glass of wine or in the courtyard if you'd like to mingle with some locals. In the evening, fire up the Kitchen Aid gas range and prepare a fresh meal before you take a walk to the beach to watch the moonrise over the ocean or hunt for ghost crabs (we've provided flashlights!) Come home and sack out on the sectional to enjoy some Netflix or play a couple games from our collection. You'll get a great nights sleep in the plush king size bed and wake up relaxed, refreshed and ready to do it all again!

While there is WiFi throughout and a charging station in the bedroom, there are also games to play, books to read, and the beach is just a block away, so feel free to totally disconnect! You can also get on the bikes & head across the street to take in one of the best sunsets of your life! Our apartment is not the right choice if you have small children, more than 3 people, or if you plan on coming to the beach to party. This is a space for you to come & relax! We have added many personal elements for our guests to enjoy and won't tolerate an abuse of the space by having more than our guest limit (our parking is also very limited). Upon special request, we will consider a 3rd person couch surfer at an additional $25 per night, but this is upon our discretion.

This space we created is very dear to us and we want to share it with people who will respect it in the the same way they'd respect their own special place (or their mama's house!) With our primary business being located downstairs we ask that guests respect the rules, the building and all outdoor premises. We run a family oriented business, so there is a strict no smoking [of any kind] policy in the apartment or on the decks. Our outdoor spaces are for you to enjoy but we ask that you respect those public areas and clean up any trash you might make. We reserve one parking space for our apartment guests, but any additional vehicles will be asked to move. We need our parking lot to remain open for our retail customers and have limited spaces available, making us able to only provide one reserved spot. We thank you in advance for understanding and following the rules we've set forth.

Guest access
We allow 2 guests & 1 vehicle per reservation. As our parking is shared with our retail business downstairs, we are unable to provide additional parking. We can not allow trailers, including tow behind or boat trailers, etc as there is not room for these in our small parking area.
The entire apartment is privately yours for the length of your stay. You are invited to hang out downstairs if you'd like and enjoy any of our outdoor spaces. Please know these outdoor (backyard & front yard) spaces are shared.

Other things to note
COVID19 Update and Peace of Mind:

-We are following CDC guidelines on cleaning our space by prepping, cleaning, disinfecting & sanitizing. We are paying special attention to high-touch surfaces. We are now blocking off an additional 24 hours between guests to give the space an airing out. We feel this is better for everyone, and the apartment enjoys a nice breath of fresh air too! Because of the additional cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing procedures, we have temporarily adjusted our checkout time to 10 AM & our check-in time to 4 PM to allow for this airing out and cleaning of our space. We thank you in advance for following all checkout procedures and respecting the new timelines.

-We change & sanitize all linens (including the duvet) between guests, so rest assured all bed linens, pillow cases, robes and the cover and throw blankets are washed on our "Sanitize" feature between every stay.

-We are being extra thorough in the bathroom. We do still provide our large bottles of shampoo, conditioner & body wash, and even these are wiped down between guests.

-We will continue to provide the complimentary & individually wrapped snacks & beverages for our guests. We provide a few rolls of toilet paper & a roll of paper towels as well. We do suggest bringing your own if you are able and if you feel you will need more than provided.

-We are still providing fresh coffee & tea as this gets brewed through hot water sources and is safe to consume according to the FDA (the container & lid have been cleaned!) Please use a clean spoon or scoop when making your morning brew. We have also washed with soap & warm water the S & P shakers, spice bottles & olive oil bottles as we feel these items are very nice to keep on premises. If you are not comfortable using them, feel free to bring your own, and please wash your hands before cooking or preparing items in the kitchen.

-We are asking our guests to please remove shoes upon entering the apartment.

The apartment is located on the corner of a residential side street & the Bypass. We don't boast the best view in town but our location is perfect, with a quiet beach access just a short stroll to the end of the road. During the cooler months it's a quiet neighborhood with easy-to-navigate local streets to walk or bike around. The beach access at the end of the street is less then a two minute walk away. There is no public parking so it's an especially nice, uncrowded access for you to enjoy even at the height of Summer. From October 1st through April 30th, it's also a beach-driving access! You can obtain a beach driving permit (required for any beach driving) from the Town of Kill Devil Hills or local tackle shop. Once on the beach if you look South you'll see a neighborhood landmark, Avalon Pier- or "beer-pier" as it's been dubbed, due to the bar inside which is a major haunt for fishermen, surfers, ol' salts and native Outer Bankers. Under a 10 minute walk down the beach, there's an arcade, bar, fishing and lots of locals hanging out.

Some of our favorite, classic beach boxes are right here in our neighborhood. Take a morning stroll down any of the streets and experience the sleepy beach town vibe at its best, or walk next door and grab a cup of joe at our friend Ashley's Espresso Parlor where they roast their own coffee and sell small market items like beer and wine (make sure to tell them you're staying at Mom's!) For a nearby breakfast joint in walking distance, Henry's across the street is a local legacy. Greasy spoon, diner style- it's not fancy, but it's quick and cheap and you'll see lots of old timers starting their day. Craft burgers, oysters, and a nice beer and bourbon selection can be found just one street south at Two Roads Tavern in the Seagate North Shopping Center (also walking distance). There is a plethora of awesome, local eateries up and down the beach that we can recommend; make sure to check out our Guide Books for all our favorite suggestions!

Looking to get in touch with your inner youth? Hit up the expansive mini-putt across the street; they also have a decent arcade! If nature is more your thing, we provide binoculars and flashlights- go enjoy the fabulous birding our area offers, or an evening beach walk to spot ghost crabs. At sundown, bike across the street and take in one of the world's best sunset spots at a sound-side access and watch the sun dip below the water as it sets. A must-see sunset spot is easily reached on foot or by bike & will take you through the local Bay Drive neighborhood. You'll pop over a small hill where it will drop you down to a low key residential sound side area nestled amongst the live oaks & peering out across Kitty Hawk Bay.

For anything else you may have questions about, Jess is an Outer Banks native born & raised here and Derik has been here for 20 + years so just ask for recommendations on attractions, skateparks, day drives, kayak tours, surf schools, secret spots, restaurants or anything else you may be looking for!

We are a self-employed husband and wife team who own and operate a retail & sweet shop on the Outer Banks of NC with an Airbnb above. I’m a native of Kitty Hawk and Derik has been here nearly 30 years, so we have excellent insight on anything you may want to know to guarantee the best Outer Banks experience. We love taking nature walks through our wooded trails, on the beach or through our favorite local neighborhoods to look for birds. We also enjoy long bike rides all over the beach (we have a bunch of good bike paths here and shortcuts that connect all the towns). Derik enjoys an afternoon at the skate park while I love gardening & cooking. When we get a chance to travel we usually head to the mountains. Since we live at the beach, it’s nice to get a change of scenery & we love the snow! We’re both avid snowboarders, it’s one of our favorite things to do. Steamboat Springs Colorado, the Canyons in Utah and several places in the PNW are our favorites. We dream of visiting Japan & Chile to go riding one day! When we’re looking for a tropical vacation we go to the British Virgin Islands which is only a few hours flight from us. We look forward to being able to travel together more in our future and also to meeting the folks that Airbnb brings to our door.

During your stay
We are always near & available by text if you need anything. We live about 10 minutes away and are downstairs operating our store 5 days a week (the shop is closed on both Sunday & Monday). You have your own private entry but we do share the stairs and deck leading to our office space which is also upstairs to the side of the apartment. We are respectful of our guests and do our best to stay out of your hair unless we are needed. You may occasionally pass one of us on the stairs headed to the office, but we aim to give you as much privacy as possible. Pop downstairs to say hello if you'd like! Our employees are not involved in the rental and will not be able to help in the event that issues arise. We ask that you please direct any questions, concerns or issues directly to Derik or Jessica through the numbers provided at check-in.
