About this listing
Welcome to this charming, private cottage.
This is my third space posted on this web site The other ones are: the smaller and lower priced space Cabin / Caravan (http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/66010 ),
and the bigger Home that has a queen size bed
The Cottage is set near the Small Whidbey Island House, which is totally overgrown and hardly visible from the cottage.
It is set among the trees on 3 acres on beautiful Whidbey Island, 2 miles from the town of Freeland (antique stores, grocery store, post office, etc., etc.), about 5 miles from my favorite beach, "Double Bluff", that holds stunning views of the Cascade Mountains, Mt. Rainier, and the Olympic Mountains with miles of walking.
The cottage is a cozy, light- filled and airy space with its high ceiling and many windows and skylights.
The stand up sleeping loft has an opening window and the skylight for a more spacious feel, as well as a comfy double size bed and a writing desk and chair. And because of the wire railing, it is not suited for children. Sorry for that.
The galley kitchen is equipped with an under the counter fridge, a apartment size gas range, a toaster oven, a coffee maker, an electric tea kettle, all the dishes and basic condiments. It has a granite and a butcher top counter.
There is Italian tile on the bathroom floor as well as in the shower.
There is plenty of closet space in case you decide to stay longer.
You may lounge on the inviting window bench seat to take in the open forest view, or enjoy the WiFi to write those long- due letters on your computer.
Have your morning breakfast under the porch and listen to the birds.
Either way, this super quiet romantic place for two will leave you nurtured and nourished by its splendid green views and quiet nature surrounds.
In 2001, my friend, who is a fine wood worker, and I started to build this wonderful space, using recycled materials as in Windows, doors, flooring and tile. We built it as a retreat for writers. We hand chafed the big posts and beams for a more rustic look. It took us 1.5 years, every day after our regular jobs to finish building it!
I love how quiet it is here and how dark it gets at night because we are far away from city lights. Each neighbor has 3 to 5 acres of property and from mine I can see a little bit of the home of one of them.
I like that it is only about 2 miles to Freeland where I can find the grocery store and post office as well as some stores for treasure hunting or a cafe to sip coffee in on a rainy day.
And please: do read the house rules! That way there are no surprises for you.
Please leave the place how you found it.
Leaving items behind: you are responsible for $30 of my time + $ amount for sending left behind items.
If you choose to use oil on the bed/linens, you also choose to replace them, since oil does not come out of them after washing.
NO SMOKING ON THE WHOLE PROPERTY!!! I feel strong about that!
no candles please.
No pets. Thank you!
Please circle the drive how the sign says: counter clockwise, because it is a tied turn around and the best way in and out, and please unload your car first and then park it in the guest parking spot; the spot is a bit tied as well.
Mandeja was the consummate host from booking to arrival; she contacted us in advance to confirm booking and went out of her way to ensure that our stay out be nothing short of magical like her sylvan cottage. There are a lot of nice touches that make this Airbnb special- her binder of local recommendations, a fully stocked kitchen for those who like to cook, books and games for entertainment and the warmth she clearly has breathed into the space. Hope we get to visit again. Thanks for sharing your island sanctuary with us.
What an incredible space this was! The cottage was so cozy and comfortable, and all of the amenities were neat, clean, and tidy! The views of the woods and gardens are so peaceful. We enjoyed our stay so much, and found the host's communication and instructions so helpful. This truly is a rare gem, and I STRONGLY recommend that anyone nab this up when they can! It was an incredible stay!
The lovely cottage was tucked back in the woods. It was a serene setting. The cottage was outfitted with amenities that you may have forgotten - we were really grateful for the bug spray! It was a wonderful stay on Whidbey Island!
Mandela was very thoughtful and attentive. She came by once to help us with a possible road obstruction (a non-issue) and helped us know her little corner of the world to enjoy it even more. She was a great host and her guest home is a jewel to stay in.
The cabin was perfect and provided ample amenities. From the music CDs to the decor, it was like the cabin was made for me! It was the perfect place to unwind, relax and enjoy the most beautiful garden surrounding the cabin. The little bird bath by the door was so enjoyable for this bird watcher. Manadeja was the perfect host too; providing communications prior to and during our visit. Most helpful! This was my first visit to the island, and we took a week to explore every corner. Whidbey is definitely my favorite place!! We ventured out to Port Townsend and then to the San Juan island too - Roche Harbor is a must see! What to do in a week? Oak Habor: Deception Pass, Dugualla Park, Windjammer Park, Blue Fox drive-in, boat tour around deception pass. Coupeville: historic town, Island County Museum, Fort Casey and lighthouse, Ebey's Landing, Fort Ebey State Park, Lavender Wind Farm. Greenbank: Art Galleries, Meerkerk Gardens (great for bird watching), Greenbank farm. Freeland: Perfect place to stay in the central part of the island! Double Bluff, South Whidbey State Park, great fireworks display too. Convenient shopping, gas, banks, etc. Langley: Clyde Theater, Earth Sanctuary, historic town and shops and restaurants! Friendly people too! I look forward to my next visit! Thank you Mandeja for building and creating such a wonderful cabin and making our stay so enjoyable!! Julia and Erik
My husband and I truly enjoyed our time at Mandeja's cottage: the perfect place for a wonderful, relaxing retreat in the woods. We also enjoyed being so close to some great beach hikes and wonderful dining, strolling in Langley especially. Everything one could possibly need for a several day 'get away' was there and the cottage itself was spotless. Highly recommended!

About the Host, Mandeja
I am a dynamic woman who has traveled the world and found a pearl named Whidbey Island. I tried to leave once, but to no avail: she beckoned me back into the beauty of her many beaches with views of many different mountains, a community one may only hope for, and the serenity of nature that fills me with solace not found anywhere else on the planet.
I am looking forward to sharing this special place with you!
