Welcome to this charming, private cottage.
This is my third space posted on this web site The other ones are: the smaller and lower priced space Cabin / Caravan (http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/66010 ),
and the bigger Home that has a queen size bed
The Cottage is set near the Small Whidbey Island House, which is totally overgrown and hardly visible from the cottage.
It is set among the trees on 3 acres on beautiful Whidbey Island, 2 miles from the town of Freeland (antique stores, grocery store, post office, etc., etc.), about 5 miles from my favorite beach, "Double Bluff", that holds stunning views of the Cascade Mountains, Mt. Rainier, and the Olympic Mountains with miles of walking.
The cottage is a cozy, light- filled and airy space with its high ceiling and many windows and skylights.
The stand up sleeping loft has an opening window and the skylight for a more spacious feel, as well as a comfy double size bed and a writing desk and chair. And because of the wire railing, it is not suited for children. Sorry for that.
The galley kitchen is equipped with an under the counter fridge, a apartment size gas range, a toaster oven, a coffee maker, an electric tea kettle, all the dishes and basic condiments. It has a granite and a butcher top counter.
There is Italian tile on the bathroom floor as well as in the shower.
There is plenty of closet space in case you decide to stay longer.
You may lounge on the inviting window bench seat to take in the open forest view, or enjoy the WiFi to write those long- due letters on your computer.
Have your morning breakfast under the porch and listen to the birds.
Either way, this super quiet romantic place for two will leave you nurtured and nourished by its splendid green views and quiet nature surrounds.
In 2001, my friend, who is a fine wood worker, and I started to build this wonderful space, using recycled materials as in Windows, doors, flooring and tile. We built it as a retreat for writers. We hand chafed the big posts and beams for a more rustic look. It took us 1.5 years, every day after our regular jobs to finish building it!
I love how quiet it is here and how dark it gets at night because we are far away from city lights. Each neighbor has 3 to 5 acres of property and from mine I can see a little bit of the home of one of them.
I like that it is only about 2 miles to Freeland where I can find the grocery store and post office as well as some stores for treasure hunting or a cafe to sip coffee in on a rainy day.
And please: do read the house rules! That way there are no surprises for you.
Please leave the place how you found it.
Leaving items behind: you are responsible for $30 of my time + $ amount for sending left behind items.
If you choose to use oil on the bed/linens, you also choose to replace them, since oil does not come out of them after washing.
NO SMOKING ON THE WHOLE PROPERTY!!! I feel strong about that!
no candles please.
No pets. Thank you!
Please circle the drive how the sign says: counter clockwise, because it is a tied turn around and the best way in and out, and please unload your car first and then park it in the guest parking spot; the spot is a bit tied as well.
This cozy little cabin was amazing. It was better than expected I. Every way. The grounds and garden were beautiful and it was great to sit on the porch and watch the spring rain. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to unwind and reset. Thanks so much Mandeja for being an awesome host.
Cottage was exactly as described, the kitchen had everything we needed to cook breakfast. Very private location, great for a relaxing weekend.
We loved our stay at the cottage. It was so peaceful. Just what we needed. Sleeping in the loft was like sleeping in a very cozy, comfy treehouse. It was so nice not having a TV. We had books and magazines and games. We had everything we needed in the kitchen. I loved using the gas stove. It was nice not to have to go out to buy olive oil, salt or coffee! We saw deer close by, a baby bunny by the parking spot, and lots of birds. Oh, so nice getting out of the city!
Mandeja was a great host. There are little notes she left around the place to help you out. The cottage is very clean, has nice colors and texture. Great shower, too! I do recommend visiting this cottage if you want to explore the island, or unplug. We could have stayed a whole week if we didn't have to get back to the grind.
Mandeja's Cottage was a perfect experience. We wanted to get away, disconnect from technology, and relax...and that is exactly what we found. We had everything we needed at her place with a kitchen, great bathroom, and comfortable loft. Mandeja was very responsive to our needs and accommodating, all while respecting our privacy. We also found her notes very helpful to navigate the cottage. Everything was great and we have recommended this to all of our friends.
We had a delightful stay! Everything was clearly labeled and explained. It was a very clean and charming space and it felt like staying with a good friend. She had great suggestions for discovering the local magic of the island.
This was the perfect cottage on Whidbey. It was so peaceful and cozy. All the notes around the house made everything easy to use and understand. We cannot wait to go back!
Mandeja met us at check-in and welcomed us. The cottage was simple and nicely placed in the woods with everything we needed - kitchen, coffee, games, wifi & music. All was in order and easy to use, and Freeland itself was a good location for us to explore Whidbey from, with several good restaurant options nearby.

I am a dynamic woman who has traveled the world and found a pearl named Whidbey Island. I tried to leave once, but to no avail: she beckoned me back into the beauty of her many beaches with views of many different mountains, a community one may only hope for, and the serenity of nature that fills me with solace not found anywhere else on the planet.
I am looking forward to sharing this special place with you!
