This is our fully furnished and completely renovated 2 BR (1 Large Bedroom and one small Bedroom, each with a Queen Bed) 1st floor apartment with new fully equipped kitchen, new hardwood floors, covered deck, and backyard in the University City District of Philadelphia - a very livable residential mixed with businesses, mainly restaurants. The location of the rental is very quiet but convenient to public transportation: 2 trolley lines (34 and 13) are less than 4 minutes walking distance away - both connect directly to center city Philadelphia with the Convention Center, the Reading Terminal Market, etc. etc.. The apartment is a a great place for up to 4 persons who have a short time commitment in Philadelphia. There is always free parking available on the street in front of our house.
The distances to some important campuses are:
The University of Pennsylvania campus is 20 minutes walk or 5 minutes trolley away,
Drexel University is 25 minutes walk or 7 minutes trolley away,
The University of the Sciences campus is 10 minutes walk away,
The St. Josephs University is 15 minutes by bus away,
Temple University is 25 minutes by trolley and subway.
BTW: The apartment comes with 2 sets of clean bedding per bedroom, plenty of towels, etc. etc.
Guests have access to the apartment, which features its own private entrance, to the backyard with deck, and to the basement with washer/dryer. There are two guest bicycles in the basement for free use by our guests.
Interaction with Guests
Our guest apartment is a private place. We like to show our guests around Philadelphia if this is appreciated, if this is not the case we keep to ourselves and the guests keep to themselves.
This is a very diverse neighborhood with many fancy restaurants. Easy access to center city by trolley, and easy walk to the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. Just a great place to live, as we and most guests have to say.
Trolleys stop nearby, so getting to center city is very conveninent and takes not more than 20 minutes. The PENN bus stops also just a block away. PENN, Drexel, and the University of the Sciences are within walking distance (10 to 25 minutes), and bicycles are available in the basement.
Other Things to Note
When using the washer dryer, please keep the appliances clean. Also, the lint filter of the dryer must be cleaned each time after use. Finally, those guests who stay longer than a month must purchase their own laundry fluid.
No smoking, No pets. No using of my cell phone number for food delivery.
The stay at Christof's 1st level apartment was a very pleasant one. It is very cooking-friendly and the furniture was set to make sure that toddlers do not get hurt while staying in the apartment.
It would be best if the washer and dryer were in the apartment instead of being at the basement, but I understand that it is shared between 3 levels of listing.
Christof also dropped by after a long flight to make sure everything was okay, and we had a good chat with him. Great hospitality! Definitely recommended, it is more than 'just a place to crash'.
This is a very clean, well, kept apartment. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were made to feel welcome and our hosts left us with somebody to contact in the event that we needed anything. Although it is clearly not downtown, it is in a nice neighborhood that is clearly undergoing some renewal. It is close enough to downtown (and the University) to make this a great place to stay.
I can highly recommend this listing! My partner and I stayed for two months in Christof's apartment, and we had a thoroughly wonderful time. The apartment is exactly as described - the pictures really are spot-on. It's very convenient, clean and really has everything you will need for a longer (or shorter) staying. It's located in West Philly, close to public transport, restaurants, cafés, grocery stores etc. I had not been West Philly before, but after having lived here for a while it's clear that I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in Philadelphia. There's a lot of greenery, beautiful houses, and extremely friendly people. West Philadelphia is a diverse neighborhood, and certain areas might seem a bit sketchy (not least for us, coming from Sweden), but the area that you will find yourself in while staying here, between the apartment and Center City, is really nice. For those of you who might have heard bad stories about staying in West Philly, it really doesn't give the full picture - it's a vibrant place with many "hip" spots, and you will definitely miss out on not experiencing it. Christof is also a terrific host, he made us feel welcome from the start - easy to communicate with and simply a great person. Again, this is a great place to stay, with a wonderful host. I highly recommend it to everyone, and look forward to be back in the future!
It was a great stay, and cristof was easy to contact and very helpful. The location of the place is awesome as well. Definitely recommend it!
Sehr schöne, saubere Wohnung, haben uns gut aufgenommen und umsorgt gefühlt. EIn highlight ist die Hängematte, toll für Kinder.
The apartment is as shown in the pictures. Our family stayed comfortably - two college age daughters in the back room and two parents in the front room. The apartment was very convenient to the University of Pennsylvania both by the 34 Trolley and driving. We never had any problem finding street parking. We appreciated the notes and information about the neighborhood and enjoyed our dinner at the Dock Street Brewing Co. We also walked to the Mariposa food co-op to pick up food for our stay. We hope to stay again when we visit Philadelphia.

Born in Switzerland, trained first in fine arts, then in Medicine (both in Zurich) - specialized in the creation of online resources for medical education first in Berne, then at Dartmouth Medical School's Interactive Media Lab and finally Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. Very happily married with Magalene from Pirenopolis, Goias, Central Brazil where we partly live. I consider myself a very fortunate "citizen of the world" and have a real understanding of the needs of international visitors, still remembering how it was when we arrived in Hanover, New Hampshire (Dartmouth) into an empty house, waiting for the container with all our staff to arrive.
