This charming house is steps from a secret beach and a short walk to excellent restaurants and great shopping. It's a summer charmer ready for a weekend getaway ... or a longer stay at the beach.
Located in Stonington Borough, you'll have water view from the living room and front bedroom. Both rooms overlook the entrance to Little Narragansett Bay. The Borough ... or the "village" as locals call it... is a unique part of the Town of Stonington. This mile-long peninsula, filled with well-kept period homes, juts into Firsher's Island Sound. At the tip, you'll find a the gazebo and DuBois Beach. From this vantage point, visitors and locals a like watch the sun rise or set over three states -- New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
The town is perfect for walking. New views pop up between houses, elegant shops line Water Street, various local restaurants host drinks and dinners. Each is unique. At Skipper's Dock eat clams linguini while you study the boats in Stonington Harbor. Water Street Cafe is the sophistication of Manhattan transferred to a seaside village. Milagro features classic and cutting-edge margaritas served with great Mexican food.
A Saturday Farmers Market host over twenty-five vendors on a grassy green near the Town Dock. You'll find fresh fish just off a day-boat docked in the harbor; seasonal veggies; interesting cheeses; cooking sauces and pickles; brick-oven baked breads; dozens of varieties of cut flowers.
The Borough house is located ten minutes from Saltwater Farm Vineyard, in one direction and ten minutes from Mystic, in the other.
The New York Times, July 22,2012, did an article "On Connecticut's Quiet Coast" in their travel section. Great photos and accurate description of the Stonington experience.
Peg has a lovely and comfortable house with all the amenities needed for a perfect weekend getaway. Perfectly cared for with comfortable spaces in a great town. A few great restaurants all within walking distance, but I do recommend reservations for Saturday evening. Overall, Peg made our vacation seamless and I would highly recommend this location for anyone visiting the area.
Lovely house & in keeping with the original layout and features. Clean, incredibly comfortable and a perfect location for walking around the 'Boro'.
Peg was wonderful, had great local knowledge and we had friends in common, which reminded us of the reason we loved Stonington so much.
All in all, this was great value for money & I would definitely rent it again.
Many thanks for making our stay so relaxed.
We had an all-too-short but wonderful stay at Peg's house in the picturesque historic village of Stonington. The photos really don't do the house justice - it was charmingly furnished, equipped with everything we needed (and much more) and impeccably clean. Peg graciously took me on a short walk of the neighborhood to point out several little public parks and beaches I would otherwise thought were someone's back yard and avoided! She explained that the village has made a commitment that the shoreline should be available to the community. As a result the pleasant little neighborhood beach was all of a three minute stroll away!. And not at all busy. We'll definitely be back to spend more time in Stonington, hopefully at Peg's house. Even in August the village wasn't overrrun with tourists, and Peg's lovely house made the stay even more perfect.
Peg was the best hostess! She was very easy to stay in touch with, she was punctual, and she was super friendly (she even saw my wife by chance at the Stonington farmers' market and gave her fresh flowers.)
Peg took the time to show us around the neighborhood including the historic Stonington lighthouse.
The house was full of character, clean, and very comfortable. The location was excellent. The backyard was very pleasant to relax in.
Perfect place to relax and enjoy a spectacular seaside village. Beautiful scenery, restaurants, beach, and comfortable quarters. And, got to see where the latest Meryl Streep movie "Great Hope Springs" was filmed.
Our family have had a most fantastic 4 days at Peg's house. We came from London, UK, and had stopped first in New York for a few days. The contrast between the apartment we rented in NY ( dark and scruffy) and Peg's house could not be greater. It was a relief to arrive at Peg's simple but beautiful historic house. We liked the decor and the furnishing ( comfortable, functional and esthetically pleasing). It had all mod cons that our family needed. We loved the proximity to smaller beaches but once we discovered East Beach in Westerly ( short drive away from the house)- we just went back there all the time. It had warm water, superb surf , white soft sand. Gorgeous! On the way to the beach we discovered a well stocked fish shop but we were told that it's best to buy fresh fish on the market. Peg was a most wonderful hostess - hospitable, friendly, with a grat sense of humour AND always ready to help if there was a problem. We visited her on her flower farm - all of us enjoyed it a lot ( even our teenage son!). Although it seems rather unlikely we will visit again but we will definitely recommend Peg's house in Stonington to anybody who considers travelling to that part of that of New England. Thanks a lot Peg.
The house was fantastic for a quick getaway from the city for the weekend. There are a lot of great little details, like Peg's fresh cut flowers and a beautiful backyard. Stonington Boro was a charming village, and definitely came with a small town atmosphere. We didn't spend too much time there, and instead toured the small town of Mystic, CT nearby and headed off to the Watch Hill beach in RI. Both were great.
We loved to stay there (family of 4). Peg is very hospitable and provide us good advices on where to go and what to do. This house has a lot of ''charm'' and it's really a good choise for visiting the area around.
SUCH A LOVELY LITTLE PLACE... Full of personality and charm, and wonderfully furnished. We spent lots of time in the colorful garden, and on the deck. The little beach nearby was handy in the very warm summer weather, and our host, Peg, provided such great ideas in terms of what to do and where to eat... Staying at her house is a treat, and the town of Stonington was a wonderful surprise. What a charming & fun town. Highly recommended!
The house is in a great location to explore Stonington and Mystic. Off street parking is a definite plus in the summer. The house and neighborhood are quiet. We loved our stay and want to go back. Thanks Peg!
