The Space

This newly refurbished apartment offers luxury airconditioned rooms for rent, with a delicious breakfast to meet all tastes. You can choose from either a large double bed with private bathroom or a twin bedroom with sole use of the social bathroom. Both bedrooms have airconditioning. The apartment is situated on Ladeira da Barra and has the most spectacular view of All Saints Bay and the Island of Itaparica. The apartment is on the 3rd floor of a three story building with no lift. It is a 5 minute walk to the beach and about 5-6 minutes to the Carnival route. You have the use of a computer or free internet connection. Help yourself to distilled water or the honesty bar and just relax on the hammack and just watch the sunset over Bahia, Brazil.
I also offer lunch or dinner at an additional cost of R$20.00 per person.

  • This review is for Casa Inglesa. Neil's new bed and breakfast in Barra, Salvador. We loved the place. Very comfortable and tastefully done. The beach was also right there. Not more than a 5 mins. walk.

Neil was a great host and always welcomed you with a smile. He was very helpful too in recommending places to explore.

  • Neil is a great, helpful host who knows a good bit about what it is like to be a foreigner in Salvador. He is quick to respond and extremely helpful in coordinating your stay and needs. Barra is a great place to stay in Salvador because it is quite safe, has cute urban beaches and great views, and is a bit removed from the hussle of Pelourinho. Neil's new (he had an apartment in Barra prior to January 2014) guest house is quite lovely and cosy. It has enough room that you can comfortably occupy common spaces without feeling like you are crowding. The rooms themselves are very clean and well decorated. It is a VERY convenient location, close to the Farol and the Porto and the supermarket. The breakfast is awesome and so much yummy food.

  • Neil's place is fantastic. As this was our first time using airbnb and to Salvador, during World Cup no less, we weren't sure what to expect. We left Neil's Villa very impressed and wanting to come back again. Our room was nice, the breakfast was great, and the staff were all very kind. Since most of our trip was planned around our matches we didn't spend much time planning what we were going to do while we were there. Neil was extremely generous of his time and offered great suggestions for things for us to do.

The room had A/C and it worked great, in addition to the ceiling fan. We had our own private balcony and there is an in room drawer you can lock your valuables in. Soap comes with the room - ladies bring your shampoo & conditioner. The mini bar was well stocked and reasonably priced; we did not feel the need to buy our drinks at a store. In our room, there was not a door to separate the room from the toilet, but there was a large divider wall so you have visual privacy - we were fine with this. If you think this could be a problem, we did see one other room and there was a door for the toilet area.

The location is perfect for walking to the beaches in Barra and we easily got our runs in along the beach in the early morning. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. Overall, Neil's hospitality was beyond anything we expected and happily recommend this place to anyone.

    Response from Neil:

    Dear Mike & Heather
    Thanks for your feedback.
Yes, I agree, I do need some new photos. The ones on airbnb are quite old and the rooms now have TV's which they didn't when I first opened.
I also really like your suggestion about things to see and do in Salvador. This would be very useful. I will start putting one together.
    Have a great trip.
    Hugs
    Neil

  • Neil, is the best. Wonderful place, very friendly and helpful. I stayed at Neil's the week after Carnaval and I was by myself. He provided me instruction to get to city center and places to see. He was also kind enough to show me the nightlife in Salvador, take me to the Turtle Sanctuary and a lovely paradise town called Imbassai. He's an excellent host that will make sure all your needs are met. Don't hesitate to book.

  • My boyfriend and I stayed at Neil's beautiful apartment during Carnaval and had a wonderful time. Neil is a wonderful host, knows a lot about his city, and made sure that we were comfortable during our stay. He invited us to visit with his friends and go out for the evening, and we had a great time. Thank you Neil! Good luck with your next venture. A full Bed & Breakfast by the bay in Barra. I know it will be a success and we hope to be back.

  • Neil's place was fantastic! He is a wonderful host & a great guy. The view from his apartment was amazing! My girlfriend & I stayed with Neil for 12 nights & we enjoyed it very much. The location of his place was really great & very convenient. It is decorated very nice & modern as well. Neil had a great assortment of things for breakfast every morning. The fruit was very fresh & delicious! Neil gave us loads of tips about the area & even let us join him on a couple of nights out to local street parties. We highly recommend staying with Neil!

  • A very belated review but it would be remiss of us not to give Neil two thumbs up for his excellent hospitality. [we stayed in Jan 2013]

Stunning views, beautiful location, fab room with an ensuite, scrumptious breakfasts tastefully prepared by the host himself, lots of helpful little pointers for the newly arrived, interesting conversation and not to forget, the most excellent dog company.

We wish Neil all the best in his present and future endeavours and plan to visit again when we're back in the country!

  • It's defiantly a luxury apartment in a European standard and beautiful views that just do not translate through a camera!, but Neil the host just made it more dreamy than it is, demonstrating a profound knowledge in the art of Hospatalety.warmly recommended !!!

  • We had a great stay at Neil's.
He made us very welcome from the moment we arrived. Our room was very comfortable and we slept very well. Breakfast on the balcony was a great way to start the day, good coffee, cereals, ripe delicious fruit, fresh smoothie, yoghurt and a choice of eggs. Neil advised us about places to visit, trips to go on and good restaurants.

I would recommend this place to anyone who wishes to stay and his B&B. Neil is a great host.

About
I am a 49 year old English guy who used to live in London for over 20 year but gave up the fast pace of life to come and live here in Salvador, Brazil. I brought my West Highland Terrier with me, Jasper and now he is also enjoying the Brazilian weather and slower pace of life. I have been doing Bed & Breakfast here now for 2 years and love it. I have met some great people and it is a great pleasure to tell my guests all about Salvador and Bahia. I also teach English at a very nice school called Cultura Inglesa. I often teach in the afternoon and evenings but I am usually on hand to help out with any enquires you may have.
