Cartagena is a mixture of old and new. It is famous for its popular beaches with its Caribbean Sea of 7 hues of blue, excellent restaurants and boutique shops.
The Old Walled City is full of romance, and every street and square is the setting for tales of times past, and along with the walls that surround it, waiting for the sunset to evoke long-ago memories.
There are monuments in sober, ancient monasteries, churches, battlements and the remains of bloody battles: a testimony to the invincible men and women who brought freedom to the “Heroic City”.
As night falls the hanging lanterns are lit and Cartagena come to life, transforming itself with a unique atmosphere that captivates the visitor and transports him back in time in a horse and carriage or a leisurely stroll along the narrow streets.
Lush tropical garden with hammocks, hand laundry area, WiFi and cable tv. Our house is your house. While at VacationNorman we provide the best pure drinking water filtration system by NIKKEN.
Interaction with Guests
We enjoy making new friends from all over. Although we don't have a car, normally we will meet you up at the airport. We can help you arrange a tour to Playa Blanca (maybe even take you ourselves!), and transportation anywhere you need to go.
We are located within easy access to downtown and the best beaches in the city. It's a residential neighborhood inhabited by many retired naval NCO's and professional people.
There's a gym around the corner. Supermarket 2 blocks away. And surprise! An authentic Italian restaurant right in the neighborhood, with excellent food and prices.
Our residential barrio is close to all transportation, including inter-city vans from Cartagena to Barranquilla, Santa Marta, Coveñas, Sincelejo, etc. Taxis can be ordered door-to-door by phone.
Other Things to Note

Utilities are expensive here so we appreciate guests who are ecologically-minded as well. We provide a list of house rules and suggestions.
I stayed at Susanna and Norman's place for four nights. The room was simple but clean and I didn't even have to share a bathroom because there wasn't another guest staying in the other room when I was there. Susanna and Norman weren't there but they were very available via What'sApp and you could also use their house phone to reach them. The neighborhood was safe and I never felt uncomfortable. However, if you want to walk right outside your door and be in the middle of El Centro Historicó (the Old City) then this may not be the place for you. However, taking a taxi was easy and cheap (a few American dollars) because they don't live very far from the Old City (about a 10 minute car ride). They are about a 10 minute walk to the airport as well.
This would be a good place for people who are accustomed to hostels but want more privacy because the room and bathroom was pretty basic.
Overall, I had a positive experience and I recommend this listing for either a solo or group travel situation if they don't mind being a little decentralized (but like I said, it was very convenient to get around from their place).
VacationNorman was a great little place to stay for a couple of days. I communicated with Susana initially and she was very helpful in making sure that I could get to the place ok. Norman met me at the airport and gave me some very useful information about Cartagena. The room was basic but clean and all you would need for a couple of days stay. Would recommend - muchos gracias!
Norman met me at the airport. Despite the language barrier, we communicated reasonably well. On arrival at the house, Susana, who was down in Medellin, got on the phone line to make me feel welcome and to explain the pertinent details of what would make my stay comfortable.
The room was spacious and clean. If you're looking for the Ritz Carlton it's not your kind of place. That said, it will satisfy many value seeking travelers with comfortable accommodation. Don't expect a hot shower, but once accustomed to the fresh water temperature, a shower is very refreshing.
For some reason, Taxi drivers had trouble finding this place. At least my taxis did. Although Uber is a little more expensive, I switched to Uber with greater success. They have more spacious cars versus taxis too. Their GPS system guides them well.
Norman prepares a mean breakfast of fresh fruit, plaintain, scrambled eggs with vegetables, fresh juice. This meal made for a welcome start to the day and enough energy to run til dinner. The cat and dog provided entertainment as they played in the courtyard. The dog will great you with excitement every morning.
If you're looking for a clean place that is value priced, Villa Norman should suit your requirement well.
We had a great time staying at Norman and Susana's place. The place is absolutely lovely, the rooms clean and quiet, and Norman was an unfailingly helpful and sweet host (and Susana always available by phone for any questions). Great food if you choose to have breakfast at the house, and you always have the option to cook your own meals. The neighborhood is a bus ride from the center & walled city, but it's extremely easy and cheap, and the buses run constantly. There's a supermarket about two minutes away, and several restaurants nearby.
We loved our stay at Norman and Susana's lovely house in Cartagena. Susana was very quick in responding to our reservation and any inquiries we had with a wealth of information on getting to the house. Another guest had some issues about the shared bathroom ( preferred not to share) so Susana upgraded us free of charge to the master bedroom which had a private bathroom, which was very kind and generous. When we arrived we were shown around the whole house by Norman and provided detailed information on everything. Norman is a gem and we felt right at home within minutes of our arrival.
One thing you should know is that there is a very energetic small dog in the house. She's an absolute darling, sweet and fun, but you will need a bit of patience with her because she is still a puppy and learning. Your reward will be the entertainment of watching the dog and cat play and literally wrestle with one another all day ( quietly). Pure comedy worthy of a Youtube upload. Great hosts, great place to stay.
