The Villa is a few minutes from the principle medieval villages of Val d'Orcia, such as Monticchiello, and its Castello dei Cavalieri Templari, home of the renowned Teatro Povero; Pienza, the Renaissance dream of Pio II; Montepulciano, hometown of the distinguished humanist "Il Poliziano"; Montalcino and its exceptional wines; Bagno Vignoni, developed around an ancient Roman thermal pool; Chiusi Etruscan city of the VIII century A.C.; and Radicofani, with its fortress which dominates the valley. Val d'Orcia, rich in subsoil sulfur waters, hosts important and celebrated thermal centers which offer esthetic and healing treatments. A small distance away from the Villa the thermal centers of Montepulciano, San Casciano ai Bagni, Chianciano, Bagno Vignoni and Bagni San Filippo, are a perfect anti stress treatment for the care of both body and soul. Val d'Orcia, this fascinating oasis of nature and culture, is set among acres of olive groves, oak forests and vineyards....

We had a good 9-day stay at Villa La Piana. The location is spectacular, overlooking the beautiful Val d'Orcia, and close to several charming hill towns including Pienza and Montepulciano. The views from the house are amazing, and the terrace on the 2nd floor is wonderful for sunsets and stargazing.
The house is well stocked, but is missing a traditional microwave which would have been very helpful for us traveling with a baby.
We did have some issues with insects in the house. When we arrived, there were many spiders (cellar spiders) on the ceilings and walls of every room, along with dozens of beetle-like creatures throughout the house. While harmless, my wife is quite scared of spiders and we had a 10-month old who plays on the floor often. We found ourselves killing spiders and constantly sweeping beetles away from the baby's play area, so this definitely hampered full enjoyment of the property.
That said, the owners were very responsive in doing a thorough cleaning to reduce the spider problem for at least a few days, though the beetles could not be controlled. While I understand that houses in the countryside are more prone to insects due to their location, with the price being charged for the villa, I would have expected more proactive pest control. We stayed at several other villas (some in even more wooded areas) throughout Italy, and did not encounter anything similar.
-Space is large and as described
-Lovely owners and family who live in the annex attached to the main house
-Bugs (as described above)
-Showers are incredibly small
Our host was very welcoming. She brought us a branch with fresh cherries hanging from it and provided extra blankets for warmth. Although she does not speak English we were able to get by with a bit of French and Italian and her daughter-in-laws assistance. The pictures do not capture the amazing setting and views. The location (midway between Pienza and Montepulciano) was a perfect base point to visit all of the nearby towns and villages and return to peace and quiet. The small town up the hill (Montechiello) was a wonderful place to call home base and the local restaurants Il Poste and the Cantina sister restaurant have some of the best food we ate in Tuscany and the owner of the Cantina Deborah was super helpful and great with wine recommendations. The town is about a 10-15 minute walk up hill, a lovely walk on a gentle slope. We would all definitely recommend this house to anyone wanting to visit the region.
My husband and I, along with two other couples and an infant stayed for a week at La Piana. I emailed with Graziella various times before our stay to confirm all of the details. When we arrived, Tamara checked us in with a mix of Italian and French (within our group we could piece it all together so it was no problem). The house was fantastic! It was much larger than it appeared to be in the pictures and was close to so many of the surrounding towns. The area is incredibly beautiful and the house was perfectly located. We had more than enough space for all 7 of us. The pool area was fantastic and had a great view. Even better was the upstairs terrace! The pictures definitely don't do it justice. We were also able to walk into Monticchiello for dinners (everyone in our group would highly recommend La Posta!). Make sure you ask for very specific directions to the house as our GPS and the address that was given did not take us to the right spot. Otherwise, we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay and I would definitely recommend this villa to anyone going to Tuscany!
Had a great stay, the views from the pool (and bedroom)were fantastic. The pictures show the hilltop town but the scenery is way more beautiful.
Signora Tamara will look after you really well. She speaks no English but her cleaner does as does her daughter who will leave you her telephone number.
Had a lovely first night meal of local wine, cheese, ham, fruits and bread ready for us.
She appeared with a BBQ and coals the day we spoke about it.
Sienna and Arezzo easy for a (website hidden)-op at Pienza big enough to shop at. Montepulchiano more fun place than Pienza.
Was so hot and pool views so good that didn't make it to Florence.
Great restaurant la Porta just up the road (walking) , super bar opposite the restaurant for snacks/lunck/drinks. Olive oil and small food shops just along the road, not obvious look carefully.
Try the steaks at little restaurant at the top of Montepulciano called Osteria Aquacheta. Chef comes out looks to see what he thinks you can eat and then cuts a T bone steak to suit your size! £100 for 4 wine included! Car Park 6 direction usually somewhere to park.
Ask for better directions to the villa. Buy a good map of the area. Villa up a farm track which is signposted to an another rental just by a cross on the side of the road.

About the Host, Graziella
It is at least 15 years I work in the vacation market in Tuscany. My personal job is to help people staying in a nice and typical location in our fantastic region, so thay they can collect beautiful memories of their trip in Tuscany!!!!! I personally don't live in one of the farmhouses I propose to people, but each of these places, that I personally know very well, have something special that perfectly represent this region….. In recent years I have collected beautiful structures in other fantastic Italian Regions, Puglia, Sicily, Sardinia and the Amalfi Coast and I continued to suggest to my clients. In 2011, for the first time I have visited Africa and the great enthusiasm that I felt in being for a long time in this continent has led me to select many beautiful structures in the spectacular island of Zanzibar. I know every single Villa because my job is first of all to see and personally check that all standards of quality, environmental, organizational Staff correspond to provide the customer with an ideal holiday …. Feel free to contact me even for a simple advice…...
