Apartment - Entire home/apt · Setagaya ward, KamiUma, Tokyo, 154-0011, Japan

The Space

Spacious 2 BEDROOM-3 Bed is in SanGenJaya--an upscale, trendy neighborhood just a 10 minute stroll west of Sangenjaya Station and a 8 minute stroll from KoMazAwa OlyMpiC ParK. This LoCatioN sits where city life and lifestyle merge for many Tokyoites. The center of the city is just minutes away-5 to Shibuya and 8 to Omotesando-on one train-no transfers. It is the space and the lifestyle choices such as parks and green space make this Tokyo's most popular area for living. For travelers who want to experience a Japanese traditional Onsen/Spa--Seta Onsen is just 5 minute train ride away.
SangenJaya is one of central Tokyo coolest neighborhoods on the boundary between Meguro and Setagaya Wards in central Tokyo. It is located at the merging of two historic roadways--Route 246 and Setagaya-dori, just outside the central area of Shibuya. Historically, when traditional Japanese were coming into Tokyo from the countryside they would stop in Sangenjaya for a rest before entering the heart of the city. This is where the area got its name--Sangenjaya--"three tea houses."
Komazawa Olympic Park is a short stroll away too--this is a great park. Here will can enjoy space, sport and jogging. Its 2.2 kilometer jogging/walking/cycling course offers urbanites a welcome break from the FAST-pace of Tokyo-Life.

Getting around

Komazawa Daigaku Arrival Day/Contact Information
Apartment guide video--(website hidden)
Whether you are traveling from inside Japan or coming from abroad--
1-Remember your destination is Komazawa Daigaku which is three stops from Shibuya
on the Denentoshi subway line―5 minutes on the train.
2-Please call me from Narita or if you are coming from Kyoto or are already in Tokyo ect call me or give me a mail to either of the following so I can go and open the space-

There are 4 options for getting to Shibuya or Omotesando
Option 1-Keisei Line
This new service is great 36 minutes to Ueno!!
(website hidden)_us/top.html
Take the Keisei line from Narita to Ueno and transfer to the Ginza line that will take you
to Omotesando. At Omotesando Station get out and walk accross the platform and get on the Hanzomon Line. At Omotesando Station the Ginza Line and the Hanzomon/Denentoshi Line share the same platform--this makes it the easiest way to tranfer to the Hanzomon/Denentoshi Line-- because there are no stairs. Make sure the train is a local train 各亭-
DON'T TAKE ANY EXPRESS-ask someone-take the local train--it is only 4 stops from Omotesando Station. and it takes about 8 minutes on the train. Do not get off at Shibuya. Get off at Komazawa Daigaku station this is three stations after Shibuya.
Option 2-The Bus
If you take the Airport Bus take the one going to Shibuya. This bus drops you off at Hotels in the Shibuya area and then you can take a taxi from there. The one that drops you off at the Shibuya Excel Hotel or Cerulean is the closest. The taxi fair would be about 2000 yen--hand the taxi driver the Japanese address provided and he will find it easily. This is a good option if you have a lot of bags and do not want to go through busy stations. Also it can be a good option for going to the airport too but it is risky because it uses the highway and that gets busy in rush hour. Here is the link for the bus--

Option 3-Narita Express to Shibuya
If you have the Japan Rail Pass you should take the Narita Express (website hidden) to Shibuya Station.
Once you arrive at Shibuya you should decide if you want to take a taxi or take the Denentoshi subway line.
1-If you are taking a taxi go out the New South Exit―it is easiest and there are always
taxis waiting or coming there at the bottom of the escalator.
2-If you are taking the train then you have to go to the Denentoshi subway line
Option 4-Direct Taxi Service
This is a great option―there is a man named Mohinder--he has 3 vans and can take you from Narita directly to the space for 12000 yen--really good deal and hassle free! Please contact him--mohinder9_(email hidden).in or (phone number hidden) or (phone number hidden)
There is a more commercial service as well―costs more :-( They pick you up at the airport and bring you directly to the space from both Narita or Haneda airports.
(website hidden)
Additional Taxi Information--
1-If you are taking the Narita Express use the NEW SOUTH EXIT. The Narita Express
uses a special platform and that platform is closest to the New South Exit (also mentioned above)-This is good if you want to take a taxi directly to the space.
2-If you take the bus to Shibuya Excel or Cerulean Hotels there are many taxi's there or you can walk from there to. However, getting out of the Excel Hotel to the street is really hard because the bus platform is on the sixth floor―The Cerulean Hotel is better.

  • Bruce was a pleasure to deal with- amazing communication and gave us so much helpful information we needed to take taxis, trains, Internet ect. They apartment is clean and cozy and contains everything in it to make you feel at home! The wireless wifi was one of the best things and really helpful to be able to just throw it in a bag and take it with is for the day. Very conveniently located to a train station that was a straight shot to Shibuya station which made getting anywhere in Tokyo amazingly easy. Highly recommend staying at this or any or Bruce's properties. Thanks again we have a lovely stay!

  • We used the facility for a reunion of friends from our business days.
It was nice and neat and we had comfortable time.
Unlike the hotel life, we were able to spend more time together and naturally talk and laugh more.

  • The apartment small but in good location and fit us well, toilet and shower are very small but well equipped. The host Bruce are very friendly and helpful. He met us in the MTR station and help us settle down gave us advice where to go and where to find diners.Good experience in Japan.

  • Good place for those seeking two bedrooms. Conveniently located. Wished the sheets were cleaner. However, Bruce being extremely friendly and helpful made it worth the stay.

  • Bruce's has several apartments, of which i have now stayed 2. Both are great value, comfortable and perfect locations. Highly recommend for exploring tokyo and beyond.

  • First of all for 3 traveling adults we were surprised on how big the place was. Our flight was delayed getting into Narita but Bruce gave us 3 options to take, down to the last stop. There was no way of getting lost with the directions. The place is bigger than it looks. 2 spacious bedrooms and beds I might add were huge. After going from hotel to hotel on our trip, this place was amazing and we felt so comfortable. Neighborhood was very peaceful and quiet. Location, close to train station, grocery stores, and good places to eat if you like to eat on the run. We definitely recommend this place and Bruce was an awesome host. Thank you for the stay Bruce. Will look you up next time I'm heading to Tokyo.
    Aloha.

  • I hadn't stayed in Tokyo previously so I was only relying on reviews from internet sites about what to expect. I knew that for this price bracket, the apartment would be small which was fine, but I was disappointed with other things. The power and hot water went off every time we used the toaster (which Bruce warned us about but is still not excusable). The door height to the toilet and bathroom are very low. I am average height and had to bend over a long wayforward and then turn sideways to squeeze past the sink outside the toilet. The bathroom looks like it was tiled by a child. The silicon used in tiled corners looks more like someone has used a tube of toothpaste to do the job. The small sofa bed in the living area is the most comfortable bed. One of the others is hard and the other one is even harder. Although from our experience in Japan, this seems to be fairly normal. One bed is a double and another is a queen but there is only single electric blankets on both. I wasn't expecting to be asked by Bruce to transport our own rubbish about four blocks up the road into the public bins outside the 7/11 convenience store??? There are two split system air conditioners which barely coped with keeping the apartment at a reasonable temperature. The photos of the apartment from the website are not incorrect. It's just that photos can be deceptive about the general condition of the space and the size of it.
When we first arrived at the local subway station as per Bruce's instructions, he met us there as expected but then we had to walk while dragging all our luggage to the apartment, which is about 1 kilometer away, perhaps a little further. We had a fair bit of luggage and two small kids so this wasn't easy. When you're not carrying your luggage, the apartment location isn't bad. Just walk to the subway and you're 3 quick stops from Shibuyu Station. There are plenty of places to eat nearby which were good.
A genuine posative is the portable Wifi that is available. You can take it with you during the day and get good, reliable signal. Its a good idea, but not worth the overall experience.
I don't like to leave negative feedback and I've tried to be objective. I wouldn't stay here again but if you're after a roof over your head, a bed and some wifi, then it ticks those boxes.

  • We enjoyed our stay in Sangenjaya. The apartment was in a quiet neighborhood and reasonably close to the train and only three stops from Shibuya.

Bruce was very helpful. The pocket WIFI was super convenient.

    January 2013
  • Bruce was very accommodating and very helpful with lots of information about the area and Japan in general. The apartment had portable wifi which was amazing for us gaijin because it is pretty hard (virtually impossible) for tourist to get a sim card or wifi in Japan. The place is quite spacious by Japanese standards and it was very clean with lots of essential amenities. It was within 5 minutes walking distance to komazawa-daigaku station which in turn is 3 stations away from shibuya. Thanks again Bruce!
