This is a quiet, relaxing country setting with excellent views of the rolling hills and wildlife.
Katydid Ranch is a 40 acre organic/permaculture farm located 8 miles SE of Eau Claire, WI or 5 miles north of the Foster exit on I-94. Madison, WI is 2.75 hours away and Minneapolis, MN is 1.5 hours away. This is not a traditional farmhouse that you would normally picture. My house is fairly new, very clean, quiet and comfortable. I just started the organic farm enterprise and pastured poultry in 2012, so there is much yet to be done.
This space is ideal for 1-3 people, as there are 2 bedrooms, with one private bath, a living room and walk-out patio that are all yours when you stay here. There is an additional charge of $10/night if you need both bedrooms.
Many mornings, you can enjoy your coffee/tea on the front porch watching the sunrise. Evenings are a relaxing, cathartic experience as you can watch the sunset from the deck while sipping a glass of wine or cup of tea. You can bring food in to cook or purchase/pick your own organic herbs, produce, poultry, and eggs right from Katydid Ranch! Let this be a "landing point" for short trips or a destination vacation for your spiritual and physical renewal.
Within 10 miles, you will find University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire events, a (modest) wine route, apple orchard route, biking trails (there are hundreds of miles of Wisconsin trails that are linked together), hiking, canoeing, kayaking, horseback riding(BYOH), cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, snowmobile trails, Hobbs Observatory, Beaver Creek Reserve, and......well, you probably get the point.
You may also choose to simply stay at the farm and rest/relax.
Ala carte options horse boarding, Equine Assisted Learning sessions (life coaching humans, using horses), prepared meals, and guided meditation.
This is a quiet space to nourish the mind, body and spirit; to walk the property and take in the wildlife.

What a great place and an even better host, Whitney could not have made feel more welcome and her 2 puppy's were also very gentle and sweet. The room was perfect, bed was very comfy, best nights sleep I've had in a while. The basement room(s) very private and clean, bathroom was perfect as well,,, I will be back!!!
Whitney's farm is the perfect place for a quiet retreat. We enjoyed watching the chickens and felt right at home with her friendly dogs. Her home was very clean and had all the amenities we needed. It was a pleasure to get to know Whitney, she was a great host.
If you're looking for a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city/suburban life, this is it! Whitney's farm is truly a treat and a retreat, too! Perhaps the best thing was the early morning silence, broken only by her adorable chickens' clucking (note: although I love animals, it was great that there were no roosters waking us pre-dawn!), her softly neighing horses, and mooing cows from a neighboring farm. Her rental space is in process so although roomy and comfortable, could use a few touches such as reading lamps in the front bedroom (which I must point out, even though she had already made up the back bedroom, she specially made up the front room for us at our request since the front room has two windows and the other bedroom only has one.) And, oh! the views! and the peace! I'd gladly trade a reading lamp for the velvet black night with its uncountable number of glittering stars visible from the bedroom windows or even better, from the deck. And breakfast! Whitney let us use her kitchen to scramble up fresh organic eggs from her free range chickens, and gave us some just-picked tomatoes as well as organic kale to sauté and eat along with our eggs. Good hot coffee and delicious bakery bread toasted and spread with pure Wisconsin butter finished off our sumptuous breakfast. This little organic farm is a wonderful way to experience a completely different way of life. Plus, Whitney is a lovely woman with a fascinating story of growth and openness. We were sorry to have to leave after only one night. But we'll be back to this special place only a few hours from Chicago!
The reservation was canceled 2 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Whitney has a beautiful farm. We enjoyed the picturesque views every morning. She has horses, chickens, and two well behaved dogs. We had the entire lower level to ourselves which included a bedroom, full bath, TV, and fridge. Whitney is very kind and accommodating.
We had a great stay at Katydid farm with Whitney. Everything was as beautiful as pictured. The quiet was great. Comfortable accommodations and delicious farm fresh eggs for breakfast. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again or recommend the place to friends. It was fun to learn about her CSA and plans for the farm.
Whitney is a very accommodating host. The serenity back in this farm area can give you rest for your mind and soul. A short drive from Eau Claire to me was far better than staying in town. Windy roads flanked by lush green fields on one side and dense forrest on the other side made driving to and from the town very pleasant. Just a heads up, look out for the deer crossing the road when you see a sign that says such....I just missed hitting one by 25 feet.
The dogs greeted me upon my arrival. A slobber-fest by Zeke big dog. Felt like home. The horses were beautiful but disinterested and the chicken had much better things on their minds (eat, eat).
I had the entire downstairs to myself which included my own bathroom, choice of bedrooms and a couch, recliner and a big screen TV with satellite cable. Very nice.
Being a business trip, I arrived late, had to leave early and Whitney worked with me on that, a sign of great customer service. I'll probably be back in the area again and would stay there a second time.
Even with my 4 am departure, the cat managed to find me in the dark and make certain to rub up against my luggage (I took it as a good-bye wish) as I loaded up the car to head to the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport for my flight back to California.
I am an organic farmer living in Fall Creek,WI. I love to entertain and cook for friends or guests staying at Katydid Ranch. Much of my time is spent working on the farm/gardens, but when I get to relax I find sharing life experiences with others to be fascinating; you just never know "who" you are going to meet! Some of my background or past lives that I openly share include my time as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Botswana, hitch-hiking in US and Africa, permaculture design principles, Equine Assisted Learning (life coaching humans using horses), Pharmaceutical Sales, Dairy Feed Sales, Graduate work in Ruminant Nutrition (cattle, goats, sheep), political activism.....the list is endless and covers a broad spectrum. My guiding principles in life are NATURE, INTEGRITY, AND MEANINGFUL WORK.
