Interaction with Guests
We take the lead from our guests. When our side door is opened, please come in and say hello.
We are in and out all day long, so we are easy to get ahold of...we respect our guests and their needs.
We love our eclectic neighborhood, with a small town feel and all the funky locally owned places that wouldn't be found in suburan areas.
We think the Big Kitchen is a blast from the past! Our locally homemade family ice cream is the bomb! We have some incredible resturants within walking distance!
If you enjoy a nice walk, you can easily be at the busline and right in the heart of our sweet little local neighborhood. There are canyons to explore and wildlife that surprises! You can rent bikes or get a "go car" or take the bus (with some planning).
Other Things to Note
There's no need to miss your exercise plan while here on vacation. We have any sport you can think of within the town, so if you want to check out something with a San Diego flavor - it's here!
This is a retreat-like setting and peacefulness is valued. The use of grounds and pool for guests. their families, and close friends. The cabin is small, but small children have stayed with their families in a cot which we provide. This is a non-smoking rental - it's not good for you or Mother Earth :)
Chris had emailed ahead, telling us how to enter in case he wasn't home, making us feel very secure. He was home and showed us the place, we talked a bit and he was sensitive to the fact that we were ready for rest and quiet. The studio had been described well, It was a bit smaller than we thought, but perfectly suited us and had all the amenities we needed and then some. Lovable Loo, the composting toilet, was a new experience. Worked well. Loved the swimming pool! Swam every day. The neighborhood felt safe and cared for, we enjoyed the sound of the neighbor's fountain. With being so close to freeways, we were pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was at night. And what fresh air! Parking was always available out front, a breeze!
Our stay at the art studio was everything we needed for our end-of-the-summer getaway. My boyfriend and I arrived around 10p to the home and Chris welcomed us and gave a short tour of the cabin and explained how the lou worked. The compost toilet was an interesting experience because we had never used one before but after the first few times, it added to the quirkiness of the place. Be sure to look it up so you're not surprised. We loved the privacy of the cabin/backyard and enjoyed day & night swims as well as eating outside on the tables. The neighborhood is very quiet with many cars parked along the street. Most places in the area are walking distance but after walking to breakfast the first morning, we found it was just more convenient to drive. The Big Kitchen (restaurant) and Rebecca's (cafe) only accept cash and Hamilton's Tavern has a great selection of draft beers. The space is small but cozy for two people and everything you would need is there- microwave, small fridge, etc. just as described. Chris was very friendly and helpful, answering texts in good time. Staying at the cabin gave us a great feel for what it's like to be a local. It's easy to have a home away from home feeling here and we will definitely be returning.
Chris and Jean are lovely people who gave us a very warm welcome! They had everything set up for a perfect stay in San Diego: places of interest in a little folder, tips for possible nightlife activities and so on... The art studio itself is a very cosy and peaceful place. It had absolutely everything we needed and more to make us feel home and welcome. (The swimming pool next to the studio was simply awesome!!!) The only thing we had to get used to was the disposable bags in the toilet which they have to save water. A very good thing to do in California at the moment!!! So, that was just a new experience for us, but nothing to weaken our great impression of Chris and Jean and their beautiful art studio! We would come back any time!!!
Chris and Jean are awesome hosts. My daughter and I felt right at home during the week we stayed in their Art Studio. We were able to get up and do things at our leisure which made the days much more enjoyable. The pool is an awesome way to get back and relax after a day on the go. My daughter loved it. We would love to go back and visit Jean and Chris again.
Amazing place and very, very kind hosts. We had a fantastic time. One of the best airbnb experiences I had, if not the best.
I cannot say enough good things! Chris was kind and clear and interesting and the model host. The space is idyllic. Simple and cozy and peaceful. Exactly what I needed to get away and retreat. I'll be back!
Chris was very friendly and easy to communicate with both in preparation for, and during our visit. He went out of his way to assist us a couple of times and we are grateful! The art studio is cozy and unique, perfect for us. We loved using the swimming pool. Great location!
