Chris and Jean are lovely hosts. I arrived on my from trip to the US and they looked after me so well Im going back immediately!
I went into my first AirBnB experience with the expectation that I'd be attending a conference downtown, and that I'd enjoy a non-hotel experience in my off-time. I enjoyed the art studio and the surrounding area SO MUCH that I ended up spending 2 of my 5 days at "home" rather than at the conference. If you are coming from a stressful busy environment and need a serious good night's sleep, fresh air and a quiet porch to sit on during the day, this is where you should go. This is perfect if you have reading and writing to do. Very good food and coffee is nearby, or you can bring coffee grounds and use the press, like I did. There are lovely places all around this neighborhood where you can walk or even hike, and if you are the walking type, Balboa Park is right there. Plus, on top of the lovely digs, Chris and Jean are sweet as pie. They checked in, got me settled, stayed in communication, but they let lay around and read in the sunshine in my pjs peace and quiet. They provided terrific information for local activities and walkable places, and they went above and beyond to make sure I was comfy. I was so comfy that I sat on the porch for an entire day. Man, I really needed that retreat. Next time, I would probably invite friends over to sit in the nice back yard and have a fire or bbq, but this time, I just needed to recuperate, read, drink tea and stare at palm trees. I would love to come back for another break from Chicago.
We cannot say enough good things about this stay! Chris greeted us so pleasantly and Jean is such an angel! This was an incredible experience, not only getting to stay in an inspiring place, but to create a lasting bond with such wonderful people. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. We will certainly plan to reconnect with Chris and Jean when we come back to beautiful San Diego! Thank you both for everything!
Warm and welcoming, Chris and Jean are wonderful hosts. The Art Studio is a peaceful retreat from which to have adventures. We'd happily return, and are sure many others with enjoy it as well! Thanks Chris and Jean!
I was really looking forward to this trip and specially to staying at the Studio. Was I NOT disappointed!! Everyday was a special day! Hot morning coffee watching the hummingbirds, practicing yoga or doing tai chi with the morning sun rays, sleeping comfortably every night. Very very high end camping! The kindness and generosity of Chris and Jean making staying at the Studio very very special and memorable. Would I go again, absolutely! Would I recommand the Studio, definitely!
The Art Studio was exactly what I expected from the photos - cute, quaint, and small but very cozy. The location was perfect - 15 minutes from anywhere we ever wanted to be! The backyard was beautifully maintained and the side gate was a perfect entrance that felt safe to leave to/from at any hour of the day.
Jean and Chris were gracious and friendly - they even left a bottle of wine in the fridge for us! Their personal touches on the Studio made me feel like I was staying amongst friends. The Studio was also amply stocked with everything you could think of needing (coffee supplies, bathrobes, toiletries, cutlery, books, etc). I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the area!
The cabin was exactly as described..It was a treat for us to live in a small sustainable place since we have been considering doing that ourselves, building a small space that is. Chris and Jean were lovely and helpful hosts.. The outside gardens were beautiful and we enjoyed the quiet the property offered.
Jean and Chris are extraordinary hosts, knowing what a guest needs. The cabin is rustic but welcoming and restful. I felt at home instantly. The setting is perfect and allows you to feel connected but set apart and secluded. Lovely and refreshing time.
The location is easy to find surrounded by friendly neighbors and a community feel. San Diego is easily navigated by GPS and full of sites and sounds.
Our stay at the sweet little art cabin was very comfortable. We came in at night through a magical well lit garden path to a warm, cozy cabin. In the morning we were able to take in all the greenery surrounding the space. Our hosts were wonderful, they were friendly and helpful and kind. We would definitely recommend staying here!
Chris and Jean are generous hosts and wonderful, inspiring people. I spent a week at their extremely peaceful, relaxing, and comfortable retreat during a stressful business transaction. The morning I was leaving, they stopped as I was packing up the car and invited me in for a lovely breakfast. I am very thankful to have found this haven which exudes hope, peace, and the joy of life. See for yourselves, you won't be sorry!
