About This Listing
The cottage is recently built in the traditional Caribbean style in the garden of Tranquil Farm, an old farm house, tucked away in an unspoilt wooded valley.
The cabin is totally eco, with solar energy and uses only collected rainwater. The bedroom is large (14ft x 16ft) with windows on 3 sides. The door on the 4th side leads Narnia like through the wardrobe to the open kitchen and shower.
From the netted four poster bed, you look through balcony and garden to the hills covered in lemon grass. There are comfy chairs and a double hammock on the balcony, perfect for a lounge with a book (we have a good selection) and a glass of wine...or two!
The kitchen is open to the garden. It is simple but has everything you could need, with a table top cooker and a gas fridge.
We also put a welcome pack to see you through your first night and breakfast, and something to toast your arrival !
In the garden there is a pond that attracts the wild birdlife and trails that lead straight from the house through the woodlands to varied views of the island - we can even lend you a friendly canine walking companion!
Although we are in this quiet and hidden valley it is only a short and rather lovely drive down Fig Tree Drive ( also known as the Rain Forest Road), to the nearest beach at Carlisle Bay. Beyond Carlisle Bay are some of the best beaches in Antigua laid out before you along the West Coast.
You do need a 4WD to get to the cottage, there is no public transport nearby but it is only a 20 minute drive from the cottage to either English Harbour or Jolly Harbour the two main yachting centres or St. John’s, the capitol of Antigua.
There are few areas that are as calm and peaceful as this unique area of rural Antigua.
The cottage has solar panels that should be able to supply all your needs, be it charging a computer, running all the lights and playing an ipod player etc..
However we only have 1500 gallons of rainwater in holding tanks and no other water supply - so please when its dry dont have showers that are toooo long!
The cottage has wireless internet with a router of its own that is run from the main house. The internet is turned off at night to save power unless you request otherwise.
Louise was very helpful organised and easygoing. She has done up the cottage very nicely with an eye for detail. Recommended for independent people who want to experience something different, out in the woods.
Both Louise and the cottage we staid in were wonderful. Louise allowed the 2 of us to stay in her 2nd cottage "Logwood", which was simply idyllic. Louise's property, which includes her home and 2 guest cottages, is quite isolated and very quiet, in a beautiful hillside setting. Louise left us some essentials (including wine!) that kept us fed for a few days. The whole experience was perfect and I can't recommend the accommodation enough. Your own 4x4 vehicle is essential for getting to the cottages, a small price to pay to get away from the crowds!
Louise was an excellent host - welcoming and hospitable but also leaving us to our own devices. The cottage is a lovely retreat from the rest of the island; you really are on your own save for the wildlife of the garden (ducks, chickens and two friendly dogs). Louise left enough food to see us through a number of days without needing to shop much more and the cottage itself was prepared perfectly for our arrival. The rocky and bumpy track/road that leads to the house is only really possible to navigate with a taller car/4x4, but again Louise was able to fix us up with a local rental company - just be sure they give you a GOOD car. We had to take ours back...and discovered it was the only bad vehicle they had....We would definitely visit and stay again and advise everyone thinking of staying somewhere peaceful and private on the island to come here...priceless compared to many of the beachside resorts.
I had a fantastic time in this beautiful cottage in the forest!
Louise was a great host, offering to purchase groceries to get me through the closure during the holiday and providing me with privacy though available as needed. The cabin was very sweet and perfect for a remote getaway while convenient enough to go to the beach and major sites around English harbour daily (20-30 mins by car). My favorite part was the outdoor shower from where you can see the moon at night or enjoy the sun by day. Little touches light the LED light overhead that come on after dark and hammock on the porch make it seem like everything was considered to make this a great getaway. 4wd is essential for the rough roads to the property and affords one flexibility to explore the entire island. I was fortunate to stay in Louise's other cabin which is equally as nice but adds a bit more privacy, better kitchen facilities and an amazing view . You can't go wrong with either.
Our second trip to Louise's gorgeous cottage - and still our favourite spot in the Caribbean! A perfect place to stay -- surrounded by the sounds of the tropical forest, quiet and peaceful, yet easy drive to many beautiful beaches as well as the more commercial centres in Jolly Harbour and Falmouth (a perfect place if you're taking in Sailing Week). All of the conveniences a couple would want in a holiday cottage, with great green credentials. Looking forward to another trip again soon!
We had an absolutely beautiful and relaxing stay for a few nights in the cabin. It was everything and more than we expected!
Loved Louise's hospitality, her friendly dogs, sitting on the verandah watching the birds and lizards, cooking outside by lamp and candle light, showering under the stars, the lovely cool breeze that flows straight through the shutters, the lack of biting insects that plague so many other spots on the island, and the solitude.
I would recommend if you were a light sleeper to bring earplugs as the animals are all quite vocal (but lovely) early in the morning. (donkeys, dogs, roosters and ducks!) We live on a boat so I think maybe it's because we are used to it being quiet all the time!
Also we had to ask every time we wanted to use the wifi, so it could be turned on, which was no big drama but thought I would mention it.
We would definitely stay again, and would recommend it to anyone who likes being in a garden setting, and wants to get away from resorts. The cabin is beautifully decorated and has a great book selection also!
Thank you Louise for a memorable stay!

About the Host, Louise
I am from England originally, but have been living in the Caribbean for 25 years.
I run my own business, a Production Service Company, which helps people coming into the Caribbean for filming or photography. When not traveling for work I live at home at Tranquil Farm with my daughter,
dogs, ducks, chickens - I love to garden and reading, and the peacefulness of my surroundings.
