You walk to the cottage along a short path covered in bamboo leaves, across the stone patio and onto the open deck.
The deck, kitchen and bathroom are all open. The cottage is surrounded by trees and a small garden - A Caribbean country cottage.

The space

The cottage is in the traditional Caribbean style, its walls covered in shingles shuttered windows and a large open deck. It is in the garden of Tranquil Farm, an old farm house, tucked away in a wooded valley.
The kitchen is open sided, birds flying through! A three burner stove and under counter gas fridge. There is everything you would need from espresso coffee maker to knife sharpener! The pots and pans hang on the wall.
The cabin is totally eco and is powered with solar energy, the sockets are 110v USA. The inverter cannot run anything that uses more than 1000 watts ( like a hairdryer !!) There is no mains water, only collected rainwater and the shower is open to the woods. The bedroom is large with windows on 3 sides. The door on the 4th side leads Narnia like through the wardrobe to the kitchen and on to the bathroom.
From the netted four poster bed, you look through balcony and garden to the hills covered in lemon grass. There are comfy chairs and a double hammock on the balcony, perfect for a lounge with a book (there is a selection) and a glass of wine...or two!
The cottage has its own garden on 2 sides and wooden chairs for you to lounge on.
Although we are in this quiet and hidden valley it is only a short and rather lovely drive down Fig Tree Drive ( also known as the Rain Forest Road), to the nearest beach at Carlisle Bay. Beyond Carlisle Bay are some of the best beaches in Antigua laid out before you along the West Coast.

Guest access

The cottage is your home while you are here, and feel free to roam around the garden. The garden has no gate, and leads naturally into the valley and the surrounding countryside. The road is so quiet there is no problem walking along down through lemon grass and mango trees.

Interaction with guests

If I am at home do feel free to come and ask any questions, I love meeting the people who come and stay, its a treat for me - I will otherwise leave you alone to have your holiday!
Although my house is approx. 100 ft away - my house looks away from the cottage so I cannot see nor do I hear music or indeed anything from the cottage.

Other things to note

The power for the cottage is solar - please ask me to show you how it works so if you don't know these systems.
There are solar lights on the path to the cottage, but depending on the sun they do not always last late into the night - so we have torches for you to use. There is also a local mobile phone for booking restaurants, or if you get lost !

Beautifully wooded surrounds, a place of relaxation. The ECO experience is very well presented and comfortable. Plenty of space in the accommodation. We had expected insects but hardly any joined us, in any case the two stage mosquito netting is very well fitted. Many quality beaches within easy reach to visit. 4WD was our preference and it was just the business.

Our 5th visit to Louise's beautiful cottage and every year we love it more and more. Idyllic setting in the hills with a lovely cooling breeze and a short drive to any number of fantastic beaches. The cottage is wonderfully decorated and very well kitted out - fantastic open air system with everything you need to cook your own meals, hammocks to relax in, plenty of towels, beach chairs, traditional BBQ, very comfortable bed, huge veranda for relaxing and evening meals - my wife and I can't say enough about it. By far our favourite airbnb property and Louise is a brilliant host - the fridge always is stocked on arrival, hassle free arrival and departures and very knowledgeable about the island. We will be back again soon!

This is a truly amazing place. Louise has designed and built an astonishingly beautiful and comfortable eco-home in the woods. Humming birds, banaquits and of course the domestic chicken, ducks and 3 fabulous dogs. A fabulous open kitchen and shower with a very comfortable bedroom. BBQ available. To access its either a pleasant 15 minute walk or you need a car that can handle a pretty poor condition road but we parked at the top by the church and walked each day and it worked very well. I have never stayed in such a place and can't recommend it too highly.

I really enjoyed staying at Louise's. The cabin itself is beautiful with a lovely rustic feel and everything you need. The dogs are a hoot, too - have them take you for a walk if you get the chance. Louise and Brother were both helpful and welcoming. As the cabin is set in a somewhat rainforest environment, you may want to consider spraying clothing with mosquito repellent if you, like me, are prone to bites. Citronella candles and a net are also provided. All in all, I highly recommend staying here!

I visited for my birthday weekend with my boyfriend. It was our first experience with Airbnb and we wanted to relax but go on adventures too. This was the perfect place. We explored the island durning the day and came home each night to the cozy cottage where we had dinner outdoors and spent hours enjoying the hammock. There were little lizards peeking in on us and a constant warm breeze. The dogs helped keep us entertained and Louise was always there with advice when we needed it. We were so thankful to have supplies for dinner and excited to try the duck eggs from Louise's ducks. Everything was perfect, jolly harbor was so pleasant and the beaches were beautiful. Would definitely recommend!!!!!

If you want to have an authentic experience of Antigua, away from tourists, hotels and cruise ships; if you wish to be in relatively short proximity by car to the best beaches, while at the same time be immersed in unspoilt nature and an equally unspoilt, echo-friendly way of life: look no further. Louise and property caretaker Brother made me feel at home from the start. I could have not asked for nicest people. I was left alone to enjoy the property, but they were never too far away in case I needed any help. This peaceful cottage boasts lovely interiors and is, simply put, a dream. Incredible attention to details (from the tasteful, artistic nocturnal lighting to an abundance of decorations - shells, candles...). The cottage is surrounded by the most glorious natural scenery, and at night the forest comes alive with lovely bird and frog sounds. In the morning ducks, chickens and Louise's lovely dogs often come to keep you company, together with the most colourful birds including beautiful hummingbirds. Wifi is on offer (and it works). I loved the outdoor shower and the wonderful patio kitchen where one can try making local recipes (thanks to a Caribbean cookery book Louise leaves with her guests). Kitchen is well furnished in terms of pans and tools. If you want to stay at Louise's a 4x4 is a must. A 'regular' car could not withstand the dirt track that leads to the property - with a 4x4 on the other hand the road is easy to master. Also, with nature come mosquitos so, although the cottage is safe (and the bed has mosquito nets), mosquitoes do bite outside, so bring plenty mosquito repellent (Louise will give you citronella candles also). I will definitely go back!

I am from England originally, but have been living in the Caribbean for 25 years.
I run my own business, a Production Service Company, which helps people coming into the Caribbean for filming or photography. When not traveling for work I live at home at Tranquil Farm with my daughter,
dogs, ducks, chickens - I love to garden and reading, and the peacefulness of my surroundings.
