About this listing
LA CASA DI TUFO is a unique medieval palazzo that was built in the 5th century where you can experience the atmosphere of the past yet have all the modern comforts of today. Each room has marvelous views of a private garden and of the medieval part of town. There is a radio in every room as well as private bath with massaging showers and foot massage. There are stone arches, original wooden ceilings and other medieval architectural elements as well as TV and exceptional WIFI access in the living room. The breakfast is a mix of Italian (pastry and cappuccino) and continental (bread, cheese, yogurt, granola, and fruit).
The house is in the center of Orvieto within a few minutes walking distance to all the famous sights, including the grand Duomo (cathedral) with its famous frescoes of Signorelli, multiple museums, the underground caves, monuments, Etruscan ruins, the famous well of St. Patrick (Pozzo di San Patrizio) as well as many others. If you like archeological places we can organize a guided tour to some Etruscan cemeteries or to the caves of the famous “Fanum Voltumnae,” the most important spiritual Etruscan place, which was discovered in Orvieto after excavations of more than 50 years.
If you want to relax after a morning of walking you can go to the hot water springs in the surrounding countryside of Orvieto (35 minutes by car). After that we can recommend to you a typical local restaurant where you can eat pasta like your grandmother used to make. We can also book a guided tour to a local Umbrian vineyard for you to enjoy wine tastings.
Within Orvieto’s historic center there are many charming intimate restaurants where you can experience delicious authentic Umbrian cuisine which often includes truffles, porcini mushrooms, fresh vegetables, new olive oil and a terrific selection of wines from Umbria and Tuscany. The owner of LA CASA DI TUFO has a truffle dog and if you want she can show you the dog finding truffles in the woods.
If you completely fall in love with Italy and want to stay for a longer visit, you can also learn Italian cooking at a nearby cooking school.
Our hosts were very welcoming and helpful, especially as the heat made us quite delirious. We enjoyed communicating in Italian and it was lovely to share our stories about Italy and Australia. The breakfast was also excellent.
This is the perfect place to stay in Orvieto! The b&b is in a good location and within walking distance to everything. We had to leave very early in the morning to catch a train to Rome and breakfast was waiting for us in the morning. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay or nicer people to have met!
We had a very lovely stay in Orvieto thanks to La Cas di Tufo. The host is very friendly and gave us good tips for dinner. The room was very large.
We were greeted by Ludi and Robert when we arrive who were the most helpful and considerate hosts. When we arrived, unbeknown to us, the funicular was out of service. To ensure we had the maximum time to visit during our short stay, they insisted on driving us to the rail station and went out of there way. They are very caring and generous people with a great sense of humour! When they heard we were foodies, they also made us a special treat! The BNB was also great, the rooms, spacious and private. The location was also perfect for sight seeing! Our stay was very memorable, especially thanks to the hospitality of Ludi and Robert! We would definitely recommend!
This accommodation is absolutely excellent! The photos on here honestly don't do the room justice - the place is very clean and tidy, the bed is VERY comfortable, and the decorations in the room and apartment are very nice. Jasmina and her husband were great hosts and made us some very nice coffees! They recommended some local restaurants, we went to one called Trattoria Aronne which was delicious and the waiters were very friendly! Orvieto is a beautiful town. Jasmina showed us how to get to the local areas and recommended that we visit civita di bagnoregio - and we recommend this to everyone going to Orvieto too! Really stunning place. Also, the breakfast here was so good - different every morning, really nice good quality croissants, jams, ricotta etc. really really good. Thanks very much for having us and we hope to visit again one day!
Jasmina is absolutely wonderful! She was very warm and welcoming when I got to the house. The bed and breakfast is clean, comfortable and quiet.
Breakfast was amazing! Meats and cheeses, yogurt, granola, fruit, croissants and my favorite, cappuccino! She was extremely helpful especially when it came to advice on things to do in Orvieto and the surrounding areas.
Orvieto is a place everyone should visit and staying with Jasmina is a must!
Jasmina contacted me the week before my arrival to welcome me and give me directions to reach her house. The room was exactly as described- very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was yummy.
The location is perfect- a quiet street in the medieval quarter of town.
Jasmina had lots of good advice about things to do. Also she speaks very good English and German as well as italian!
