We loved Christian and Marie's hospitality - they were such gracious hosts, helping us to plan activities in the area and ensuring we had the best experience with our kids at local restaurants. The house was a perfect home base and was very well accommodated for our entire stay. The pool was a hit for our children as a break from our itinerary of exploring wine country, roman ruins and other picturesque sites in the area. The weekly farmers market was also a lot of fun for getting a taste of local produce and enjoying flavours that are truly hard to find anywhere else.
I would definitely recommend staying here, enjoying a glass of wine with Christian and Marie, and creating your own wonderful memories of the south of France.
Beautiful , truly beautiful house in a gorgeous setting. What is fantastic: you can live the real village life in Villeneuve as everything is within walking distance. That makes your whole holiday feel like being from there, not being a tourist, and that is an awesome feeling.
The house is truly up to modern standards of comfort with the unique flavor of the old - really old in this case - stones, and is very quiet and relaxing. The pool is great, even if not ideally located as you need a short walk there, you cannot jump straight from the bed. But considering you are in an historical building it is already incredible you can benefit from such a pool...
And the hosts are fantastic, very welcoming and helpful, with a great knowledge of the region and the local culture. They also have quite a big network that can help you in any situation, would you need it. And they remain discreet so you feel welcome and at home. All in one: an excellent choice, a truly beautiful experience.
We had a lovely time staying at the beautifully renovated home. Villenueve de Avignon is a great escape from the caos of Avignon center. We were in town for the end of the festival and found coming home to this house so relaxing and chill. Christian and Marie were freat hosts. Always available if needed and full of info about Avignon, the festival and the surrounding area. We will be back!!
Christian and Marie were the most gracious, welcoming hosts! They were extremely flexible with our arrival time and, after a quick house tour, invited us to join them for a bottle of rose on their patio. But their hospitality did not end there -- throughout our stay they were more than available to answer questions and provide some helpful pointers for our week in Provence.
The house is better than pictured. The grounds themselves are sprawling with amazing views if you hike up to the wall of the fortress (the upper boundary of the property). Thank God for the pool because it was VERY hot come late afternoon.
Shops and restaurants are easily walkable from the house; our fantasy of waking up every morning and picking up pastries at the local boulangerie were easily (and frequently) realized!
In terms of getting to/from Avignon should you desire a taste of the city, there is a bus stop about 1 minute from the house; however, we had a car and opted to drive to the parking lot on the island directly across from the city and take the shuttle (we walked once, which I would not recommend, particularly in the heat!). We were also able to catch a cab once -- so that is also an option. Accessibility to town/city were very important to us when choosing a place and this location hit the mark.
To conclude: we thoroughly enjoyed our week at Christian and Marie's and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a Provence getaway. It's the perfect launching pad for exploring the region, but also a great place to unwind if you just want to lay-low, read a book and just be.
Our hosts, Marie & Christian, were extremely welcoming and informative. They greeted us with open arms (literally) upon our arrival, and invited us to the garden for some rosé and chatting. They offered us multiple brochures and inside information about restaurants, sites, and activities about the surrounding area, and offered to call every restaurant we went to beforehand to assure a proper reservation and special treatment. We could tell they genuinely cared about how our stay was going, and if there was anything they could do to make our stay more comfortable. The house itself was absolutely delightful. This property was built in 1645, and Marie & Christian bought and renovated it 4 years ago, maintaining aspects of its old history. The result is the perfect mix of convenience, comfort and charm. The kitchen was stocked with essentials (even another bottle of rosé), and the house was extremely comfortable and clean. We felt happy and relaxed every time we entered the house. The pool was a joy for the little ones in our group, especially since we were experiencing a heat wave at the time. The property is gated and once you enter, you feel like you're in a fairytale. I would highly recommend this property for an authentic, charming, quaint, beautiful, and relaxing taste of Provence.
This was our first trip to france and we had the time of our lives. The beautiful village of Villeneuve en Avignon is a perfect setting for a relaxing holiday for my family and friends. Christain and Marie are very generous and wecolming hosts whom went out of their way to make our stay a perfect one. The pool was a great way for us to cool off after a long day of sightseeing.
Marie and Christain were most welcoming with inviting us to a glass of wine and telling us of the many sights to see.
We would recommend Christain and Marie to friends and family
From the moment we set foot inside the gates of this lovely property we were made to feel as welcome as if we were family. Beginning with a refreshing glass of rose on the patio, to our hosts' amazing patience with all of our questions about bus schedules and places to visit and continuing with the gift of a bottle of champagne to celebrate my birthday we had a perfect and relaxing week is this comfortable and beautiful house.
