Envoi sur demande
We received a warm welcome on Friday night and a bottle of champagne to celebrate my Dad's 80th birthday. Marie and Christian are warm, generous and fun hosts. The house is stunning and the pictures do not do it justice - maintaining the original stone walls enclosing a modern and tastefully renovated interior. With two bathrooms and two sets of bedrooms in separate "wings" this house is ideal for two families sharing or for a group of friends. We came here in the winter but plan to return in the summer when we can enjoy the garden and pool area.
I have had the very good fortune of traveling all over Europe and staying at many lovely airbnb properties. I can say without hesitation that Christian and Marie's incredible home is the best experience I have ever had while travelling. They are superlative hosts - from promptly returning all emails before you arrive to greeting you with the traditional "3 cheek" kiss of southern France. Christian and Marie treated my 3 friends and I as if they had known us for many years. To say that they are gracious hosts does not really seem to be enough of a compliment. They not only recommend excellent restaurants, they make the reservation for you. They arrange private museum tours in Arles. They share their fabulous Cote du Rhone wine with you and provide you with your own chilled bottle of wine for later. To say that the home is warm and comfortable also seems inadequate. The home is immaculate - the beds are wonderfully comfortable, the towels large and fluffy and the home is a reflection of Christian and Marie's impeccable good taste. My friends and I stayed in one night to cook and drink wine (since none of us ever wanted to leave the home!) and when we had trouble figuring out how to use the induction type cook top, Marie left her dinner in town and came to our rescue!
All I can say in conclusion is that if you are still reading this review, you should stop right now and book your stay with Christian and Marie!
My wife and I, along with 7 of our friends stayed a week at this stunning property -- we rented both the house & the Maisonette -- yet in spite of the photos and positive reviews, we were still unprepared for the exquisiteness of Christian & Marie's home. We were warmly greeted upon arrival, with wine & snacks on the terrace, where Christian & Marie shared stories about the property's history and renovation. After this they took us all to a quiet spot up on the hillside to show us the arresting view across the Rhone to the Palais du Pape in Avignon. With such an incredible welcome we had completely forgotten that we'd left all our luggage in the driveway! Once inside each of the houses we found every necessary amenity and creature comfort and we settled in as though we had lived there all our lives. A rare thunderstorm was refreshing and even fun for us. Christian & Marie were helpful in every way while also respectful of our privacy, though with our group, we loved having them feel comfortable enough with us to join us for cocktails each evening. While Avignon is bustling and commercial, Villeneuve proves to be a peaceful retreat and we preferred to spend our evenings dining in the village. Christian recommended Aubergine and we also discovered La Salamandre -- both outstanding food and impeccable service. Our stay was during the Air France strike which greatly affected one of the couples in our group; Christian & Marie insisted on accompanying this particular couple to the train station to sort out their travel plans. For us, what stands out, far above the amazing wine tour to Chateauneuf du Pape, the Michelin starred meals and the magical, pastoral setting of Villeneuve, are Christian & Marie. Our week long stay did not give us enough time with them and we're already wondering when we can come back.
Marie and Christian were so welcoming. We loved staying in their little piece of paradise. The house was exactly as described. Marie had stocked the refrigerator with wine and milk and she had coffee, sugar and all the condiments we needed. They invited us for wine and cheese after we arrived. Avignon is such a great location from which to explore Provence. We set out in a different direction every day and were so happy to return to our Provence "home". Merci, Marie and Christian.
The house in Villeneuve les Avignon was absolutely stunning and exceeded our expectations. The pictures of the house struggle to express the true charm of the place. We had a really enjoyable week both relaxing at the pool as well as exploring the many delights of the region. The location of the house feels like it is in a fantastic location for exploring the regions historic sites and fantastic vineyards, while the local, very charming village centre offers a load of fantastic restaurants covering all budgets.
The owners Christian and Marie could not have been more welcoming or helpful. From drinks on arrival to advise on local restaurants and sights they did everything they could to make out stay comfortable and enjoyable.
The house is amazing, exactly as it looks on the photos (if not even better) and we had an amazing time. Christian and his wife Marie were the perfect hosts, so kind and generous and welcoming. The village, which is just a very short walk away, is beautiful and full of great places to eat, drink and visit. The pool is lovely and our 4 and 1 years olds had lots of fun in it. All in all our experience was wonderful and I would definitely recommend this house to anyone.
