In Zig Zag Village, near Mt. Hood

A riverside hiking trail starts minutes from the door, with Mt. Hood skiing and trails a short drive away

Architect-designed cabin from 1977

Designed by a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a wood-burning stove

A place guests keep coming back to

Guests describe it as one of the most beautiful Airbnbs they've stayed in, with many returning
This remodeled cabin is a beauty! It is architecturally unique with interesting lines, floor to ceiling windows, an open concept main floor, wood burning stove and a king sized bed in the loft. This is a great home base for exploring all that Mt. Hood has to offer and a beautiful space to relax in afterwards!

The space
In 1977 the original owner, Klaus, bought this little pie shaped slice of land in Zig Zag Village. Klaus commissioned architect Robert C. Douglas to build a house and gave him creative license to exercise his vision and Klaus Haus was born. Mr. Douglas had studied with the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright and this house embodies Mr. Wright's influence and philosophy.

Klaus Haus is part of a small community of homes along the Sandy River. We have full time neighbors and we ask that you respect their peace and quiet. We are located on a cul-de-sac with eight other homes so if a private piece of land is what you are looking for this may not be your cabin. Our home is ideal for a quiet get away for 2 people.

We decided to keep the cabin a TV free zone but we do have Wi-Fi if you'd like to bring your own streaming device. We have a cordless speaker that you can pair with your device for music. There are books, magazines, games and puzzles to help keep you entertained. This is a place to relax and get away from it all!

The kitchen is equipped with a Keurig coffee maker, French press, blender, toaster oven and electric stove/oven. There is no microwave or dishwasher. Coffee and tea are provided. Spices, oil and sugar are also available. This is a great kitchen for cooking!

We spent about a year breathing some new life into this special little home. It has been thoughtfully and stylishly appointed from top to bottom with everything to make your stay beautiful and comfortable. We hope you love it as much as we do!

Other things to note
To keep dirt at a minimum we ask you to remove your shoes when entering the cabin.

We feel this cabin is not a good fit for very young children. The unprotected cast iron fireplace, spiral staircase and loft railing are all potential safety issues. No children please.

As mentioned above we are part of a small community of homes and we have neighbors. We are located on a cul-de-sac with 8 other homes. If you are looking for a private piece of land this may not be your home. Our neighborhood is beautifully wooded and our home is surrounded by natural forested area but the other homes and roads are visible.

Cell phone service in Zig Zag Village is unreliable. If Verizon is your carrier you are more likely to have service. When in the cabin connecting with our Wi-Fi will allow you to email and also connect for cell phone service. Go into settings on your phone. Scroll down to and select the phone icon. Then select enable Wi-Fi calling.

Klaus Haus is at 1600ft. elevation. We do occasionally get snow. HWY 26 is always plowed and the roads leading to the cabin are pretty reliably plowed. It's always a good idea to have chains especially if you have plans to head up to Timberline Lodge, Meadows or various other snow parks on the mountain. Heading off the beaten path without 4 wheel drive or chains could be a very bad idea!

We will provide a large bundle of wood for your stay. Additional wood can be purchased at the Thriftway in Welches although quality of that wood is often sub par so you might consider bringing extra wood from a more reliable source.
