When we arrived I genuinely couldn't believe that this place existed, it really is a little sanctuary in what is otherwise a bustling area of Ubud. I loved our time spent there. Our hosts went out of their way for us, kindly arranging last minute trips when ours had fallen through, and recommending places to eat and things to see. (If you do end up staying here I highly recommend the rice field walking tour with Wayan. He ended up tying in a trip to the coffee plantation, a tour of the market, lunch on the side of a mountain and a cultural tour of the village his family are from nearby. Wonderful!)
I've already recommended it to friends and will continue to do so. Was unlike any place I've seen while travelling through Bali and was a fantastic addition to our trip.
We had a lovely time at sanctuary David. It's a cute little place with a comfy bed and a nice little kitchen and bathroom. It's surrounded by nature and the staff are all really friendly and helpful. It's a short scooter ride into town in quite a busy road.
The air con is really noisy so take ear plugs. Other than that it's a quiet location. We loved it.
We stayed two nights in Rumah Kampung and one night in Writers Fav, both apartment was great and communication was very effective. The apartment was clean, and we love the staffs! Friendly, Fun, and we are even presented with welcome drinks upon arrival. How nice! They have plenty of menus for take away and even helps to call for delivery.
Sak ming recommended the Writers Fav for the last night of our stay, and boy we are in love! Cant decide which apartment we preferred better! Overall we had a very pleasant stay and I could safely say this villa is the best we've stayed throughout our 2 weeks bali holiday.
One thing to note, the villa is quite far away from the city central around 15-20 min walk, might be a little dark to walk at night. There's also inserts and bugs lying around the apartment so be prepared!
Thank you and we will be back soon! :D
We had a good experience here. The wooden cottage and the grounds outside is really cozy and the staff is very helpful. The location is also good, it's not far to walk to restaurants and shops but still you will live at a quite place. I do recommend renting a motorbike though, it's a great way of getting around in Ubud.
We stayed at the sanctuary for our 3 nights in Ubud. It is a very small and cute home stay. The "villa" was clean and comfortable. The place was very quiet and all the guests were very respectful of this. Our hosts were very nice and welcoming. Breakfast is included and was served in our living room.
2 things to know:
The sanctuary is far from the center. If you don't rent a scooter you will have to take taxis ($5 each way) which can add up to $20/day. If you really want to walk it is 40min to the market and half of the way does not have sidewalk.
Even if it seems very cheap from a western country you will realize that it is actually quite overpriced and that Airbnb fees are disproportional compared to the prices in Bali.
We felt very welcomed as they organised transport from the Airport for us. The room was cute and the neighbourhood was quiet. Our driver showed us around and helped organise our days. It is a little bit of a walk into the main areas of Ubud, but nothing too challenging. Very friendly staff. Recommended.

About the Host, David And Brenda
David, my husband was a set designer and furniture designer for the movie industry in Los Angeles for thirty years and worked with the tops in the industry....Steven Spielberg, Jodie Foster, Robert Redford, Bruce Springsteen and many more. His built the Captains Chair for Star Trek Insurrection and had the most "ordered" bed in TV history from the TV hit, "Mad about You".
He designed furniture for many top Restaurants in Los Angeles from the Saddle Peak Lodge in Malibu to Malibu Adobe with Ali McGraw. His resume is extensive and his client list is long....Billy Crystal, David Hasselhof, Arnold Schwarzanegger to Keenan Wayans.
He has translated that skill into building ten amazingly different houses since he's come to Bali. Our house is amazing and you will see why he is so in demand!
I have a variety of interests that keep me busy. I have spent years doing spiritual growth work and now work with others with addiction and codependency issues. I love this work and the chance to give back what I was taught. I've been an artist my whole life so our home is filled with original art ( mine and others) and I have an awesome studio..Anyone that loves to paint will fall in love here. My latest passion is teaching Zumba, What a blast!
As you can see, we are both loving our life and filling the hours manifesting our dreams. We both are creative artists and love to explore the world and the people in it.
Since we've been in Bali we've been taking in South East Asia. We love Vietnam, and Thailand for their amazing cuisine.
We are frequently traveling, so we are sorry that we don't get to meet all our guests, but we leave you in the hands of an amazing staff and manager, Eko and Sakming, who will be your contact people.
