Desa Sanctuary, The Village offers unique accommodations in original antique wooden homes that have been refurbished and restored offering all the modern comforts. Just the right mix of Bali Modern with traditional hand carved Javanese Joglos perched atop open floor plans.
The Village is a private and secure residence situated down a lane on the same street as the famous healer of EAT, PRAY, LOVE. Just minutes from the center of town....ideal for those coming on retreat to Ubud, the cultural center of Bali.
The Rumah Kampung, is an indigenous Balinese Village Rumah or house, complete with it's own terrace. It is one of our newest additions and is the perfect size house for one or two persons. It features a full size bed and sitting area with table and chair. An indoor/outdoor bath and small kitchenette make it a perfect home away from home! Rumah Kampung enjoys Garden views.
Rumah Kampung accommodates two persons and is USD $50 per night including breakfast.
WIFI is available everywhere in our Village....and it's FREE!
A short distance from Ubud center, Desa Sanctuary is a great place to make your home away from home. A full staff of delightful helpers makes this the best vacation...you'll never have to lift a finger!
Staff was very friendly. Accommodation was slightly less than i expected but in a relatively accessible area of Ubud.
This was a lovely little spot at the South end of one of main streets leading into central Ubud. Very good value for money and extremely friendly staff plus decent breakfasts included. Only issue for us was location. We were very happy to be away from the touristy bits so that was not the issue. We hired a scooter and it's also only a 10-15 minute walk to get up to places like ARMA and the Yoga Barn so in that sense it was very convenient. However this was our first time in Ubud so we had not anticipated how terrible the traffic would be. We live in Nairobi so are used to pretty bad traffic although the driving seemed much safer than we are used to thankfully. Unfortunately it seems the authorities are happy to let huge coachloads of tourists along these tiny streets which is making this a real problem, very sad future for the town if this continues. They should really think about some pedestrian zones. We found we often and to go through the jams because of the location of the villa, in the end we tended to try and take smaller roads if possible and changed our destinations to avoid this. The accommodation itself is lovely and is a reslly good base for exloring further North but travellers wanting to spend more time in Ubud may want to consider where they want to visit in town and just be prepared for a not-so-zen traffic problem!
The place is lovely it's true, but the staff are what make this place special. Each day, they place a spiritual offering of flowers outside each bungalow, which I found charming, and they will arrange anything you want or need with a smile. I had an amazing full body massage there and the banana pancakes and fruit lassi for breakfast was a killer! The aircon was perfect so i wasn't bothered by mosquitoes at night, and the room was always perfectly cleaned each day. I was expecting to be able to cook in my "kitchenette" but there was no stove or microwave in mine so I had to eat out. Meals are not too expensive if you go to a warung (local street restaurant) and if you're travelling with dollars or euros, you'll find almost all restaurants cheap.
Only negative is that it isn't in the centre of Ubud itself, and walking isn't really viable (no pavements, busy traffic, heat in the day, no streetlights at night) so I spent a lot of money on taxis to and from town each day. While their drivers are very friendly, they do charge more than the taxi's in town, who will usually negotiate. The cheapest option is to rent a scooter, but it can be risky to drive them!
I must say, in my imagination I was expecting Ubud to be much quieter and more "village-like" than it actually was, so I was quite surprised to find the guesthouse was located on a busy tarred road, and not in the rice paddies or forest. Ubud itself is very busy and quite touristic but that still doesn't detract from its charm. You really do feel immersed in the culture. A lot of the bars have live music every night, LOL bar has a great vibe and killer mango mojito! Best tip: make friends with some locals, you'll have wonderful memories!
Thanks for your feedback...I just spoke with my staff and they told me they moved the hotplate to another house and then didn't put it back! I am so sorry. I wish I would have known while you were here ...we would have fixed that up immediately for you.....
Our stay at David and Brenda was just 1 night. So we couldn't say much. The room was fine and staffs are nice. A nice and friendly driver, who has been arranged by the villa, picked us up at the airport. The location was a bit too far from Ubud center though.
Thanks for telling me...I will make a note about it in the "Big Book" of the Village about being a community and honoring each others quiet time....early morning and evening......sorry about the dust...hmm...i'll have staff check what the cause is.
Book with Brenda and David! This place was such a gem and exactly what I wanted for my relaxing vacation. I had a comfy bed, small kitchen and shower with really hot water, and an incredible staff that made delicious breakfast every morning. Everyone was so helpful in arranging car pick ups, providing recommendations or directions, and just being all around cheerful. I got to meet Brenda and she gave me a wonderful recommendation to check out a yoga studio Radiantly Alive that wasn't even on my radar. Ask her for the local tips! Oh yeah fast wifi was a big win too :) every can driver knew this place even though it's off the beaten path, and I loved that. Enjoyed my stay here and would come back!
Our stay was perfect! Really charming and authentic house with unique vibe and helpful staff. After long day of exploring Bali it was a relief to come back here. It is not centrally located, but it takes only few minutes to go to Ubud centre by bike. Take your chance and book this villa, you will never regret.
Great place to stay! Exactly as the pictures show. Awesome garden and a beautiful pool. Nice, clean bungalow with AC. There are multiple bungalows around the garden, all of which looked nice.
The only downside is that walking to the center of Ubud is not option, since there are no sidewalks and the road is quite narrow and very very busy with bikes and cars. Though that's not too much of an issue since you can easily rent a cab, and there are many great restaurants to choose from that do delivery to the bungalow. Everyone in the area knows about the place, so it's easy to give instructions for delivery.
All in all, we would gladly return here.
Nice cottage and very helpful and friendly staff! Thank you! :-)
Without a doubt the best place I stayed in Bali. The room was perfect, as described, and the pool was great to cool off in during the mid afternoon heat. There was a handy map showing all the social and cultural sites you'd ever want to visit and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Ubud itself is a vibrant town and I was very fortunate to be able to witness the Hindu New Year celebrations during my stay.
I cannot recommend this place highly enough if you're visiting Ubud during your Bali stay.
We spent a memorable three nights in Rumah Kampung. It was clean, cozy and felt very much like a home away from home. The location may not be very central, but the staff did recommend a wonderful driver, Nangah, who took us around Ubud and other places of interest. We will surely stay in Rumah David again next time we are in Ubud!
