Desa Sanctuary, The Village offers unique accommodations in original antique wooden homes that have been refurbished and restored offering all the modern comforts. Just the right mix of Bali Modern with traditional hand carved Javanese Joglos perched atop open floor plans.
The Village is a private and secure residence situated down a lane on the same street as the famous healer of EAT, PRAY, LOVE. Just minutes from the center of town....ideal for those coming on retreat to Ubud, the cultural center of Bali.
Our very own Rumah Tinggi ..."The Tall House"
Set above the Village, Rumah Tinggi has sweeping views of the rice paddies, pool and gardens. This beautiful, spacious, Rumah can be configured as one King bed, or two twin beds.
This room is the favorite of all the writers we have ever had stay with us. A well placed desk overlooking the rice paddies at which to commune with nature or friends, a casual and comfortable sofa with plenty of room to spread out....Rumah Tinggi is a great place to come home to!
Daily rates of $50 per night, including breakfast.
Additional occupants (up to 3 persons total) is $15/night/person.
WIFI is available everywhere in our Village....and it's FREE!
A short distance from Ubud center, Desa Sanctuary is a great place to make your home away from home. A full staff of delightful helpers makes this the best vacation...you'll never have to lift a finger!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Desa Santuary. The room was great, a good bed, AC works great, quiet, nice pool, nice poolside lounge chairs, but what made it super was the warm, friendly hospitality. The staff there are extra friendly but not intrusive. Always helpful with good English. We had Nanget drive us around to all the big attractions, and he was a great driver and a wonderful guide. It was really good value for the money. Highly recommended! Get a scooter, walking is difficult for lack of sidewalks, and it's easier than it may look, and 50,000 ($5) per day is well worth it.
Booked this place after a frightful stay in a place in Ubud. I was with my girlfriend and we were so relived to be in a new spot that was so nice. The room was fantastic and we loved all cool Bali art touches like the big buddah over the bed. The staff was fantastic and took care of our every need. This place is a bit outside of Ubud but its fine if you rent a scooter. Plus staying outside of town is a lot nicer and quieter.
I would stay again in this place for sure. David and Brenda are fantastic as well and really made us feel at home. Recommended!
David and Brenda's place was a fantastic place to stay in Ubud. Their staff was incredibly welcoming and cooked us a delicious breakfast each morning. I would definitely recommend staying here and would come back again!
We really liked this place - the room is really spacious and having the kitchenette was handy. It also seemed like it would be the most private one on the grounds (which are lovely). The only tip I would perhaps offer is that this place is definitely not as hard to find as the airbnb instructions would make out and we had some grief trying to follow them and contact their driver with the language barrier. As long as you happen to have a smart phone and the map from the main website for this place you'll likely be fine - it's signed on the main road. Once we arrived at this place everything was great and I would definitely recommend staying here. As for walking to town - as long as you don't mind gauntlets of barking dogs you can cross the main road and walk up a side street until the sidewalk starts on the main road to Ubud - for those like us who don't want to rent scooters.
Desa Sanctuary was a wonderful start to our stay in Bali. It is a small, friendly complex ni Penokesan, Ubud. A convenient location when coming from the airport on the outskirts of Ubud. It is in a very quiet location even though the 20min walk into Ubud is a little rough without footpaths. Nevertheless always interesting sights of daily life along the way !! Our rom was 'Writer's Fav', a room comfortable enough for 2 people to spend the day in if desired. Beds were comfortable. Staff were able to organise anything that was required. Breakfast delicious and generous. Lovely pool surrounded by gorgeous trees and flowers.
Dave and Brenda's place was exactly what we were looking for while staying in artistic Ubud.
A little east of city center, they provided scooter, breakfast and clean, relaxing abodes. We made use of the daily breakfast and pool in the middle of the vegetated courtyard. The staff was very accommodating to all of travel questions and needs. I would stay here again with no question.
We loved this hidden and save place just outside of Ubud. Staff was very friendly, room was good, pool was great. Good value for money. Be sure to arrange a scooter though or be ready to pay for a taxi as 20 minutes to the center of Ubud are more like 30 to 45.
Doesnt matter as long as you keep this in mind. We actually liked to be outside of the hustle.
We enjoyed our stay here very much! A quiet, safe and very well kept property surrounded by a tropical garden in the heart of Ubud with lovely details! A highly recommended place to stay!
They have lovely staff, aspecially Ketuk and Komang Boy are both treasures and tryed to find an answer to every of our many questions! And the banana pankake they make is just wunderful....
Thank you very much for you hospitality!

A few notes for Udud beside:
If you want to enjoy tipical and really autentic indian cuisine (real Bombay like) go to Indian delite (near Blanco museum on the right side the further way out of town) or Queens of India (opposite the palace near the market). Indian delite is delicious but people there not very friendly. Queens of India is very very delicious aswell but a little bit more expensive (for western ways still cheap...).
Very goog and cheap indonisian cuisine you can eat at Igelanca.
If you are expecting a professional massage dont try the balinese one at the property - seen as a professional ;-). A good massage you get a Taksu Spa - ask for Kathrin. She has a good feeling and is trained by professionals. The surroundigs of the spa are wunderful aswell...
My husband and I had a wonderful time in Ubud staying at Sanctuary in Tinggi. The location though a bit out of town felt like a get away from town. We rented a scooter for $5.00 a day and were able to get into town within 4-5 minutes. The staff were lovely and efficient. They were able to answer my questions and helped organize tours, got the scooter or arranged for a massage on the premises usually within 30 minutes. Breakfast was always a delight as it was brought to us quickly after requested and always with a smile. I have yet to duplicate their banana pancakes. Sanctuary was indeed a sanctuary after being in town or out on adventure. The pool washed away the heat and was a perfect quiet place to read a book and relax. If you choose to walk into town instead of renting a scooter, Sanctuary is a bit out of the way and the sidewalk leaves something to be desired. It is dark and has many dangerous potholes if not careful. Our host Brenda and David were multi talented and even squeezed me in for a hair color before flying back home. We will be back! ;
We had a really lovely time at the Desa Sanctuary! Extremely cosy flat ( writers fav), very well maintained and beautifully arranged place in general and very friendly and helpful staff with all enquiries e.g. booking a volcano tour etc.
Definitely recommend this place, only tiny little hiccup is that it is a bit far from the centre and the road is not very nice to walk along (very busy and narrow). But with a scooter or by taxi - no problem!
