Desa Sanctuary, The Village offers unique accommodations in original antique wooden homes that have been refurbished and restored offering all the modern comforts. Just the right mix of Bali Modern with traditional hand carved Javanese Joglos perched atop open floor plans.
The Village is a private and secure residence situated down a lane on the same street as the famous healer of EAT, PRAY, LOVE. Just minutes from the center of town....ideal for those coming on retreat to Ubud, the cultural center of Bali.
Our very own Rumah Tinggi ..."The Tall House"
Set above the Village, Rumah Tinggi has sweeping views of the rice paddies, pool and gardens. This beautiful, spacious, Rumah can be configured as one King bed, or two twin beds.
This room is the favorite of all the writers we have ever had stay with us. A well placed desk overlooking the rice paddies at which to commune with nature or friends, a casual and comfortable sofa with plenty of room to spread out....Rumah Tinggi is a great place to come home to!
Daily rates of $50 per night, including breakfast.
Additional occupants (up to 3 persons total) is $15/night/person.
WIFI is available everywhere in our Village....and it's FREE!
A short distance from Ubud center, Desa Sanctuary is a great place to make your home away from home. A full staff of delightful helpers makes this the best vacation...you'll never have to lift a finger!
I had a pleasent stay at David's Sanctuary! The staff was very friendly and hepfull...
The villa is spacious and comfortable, the pool and all the nature that sourrunds the property is excellent... Great location to stay in Ubud!
It's the first time I used Airbnb and we had a very pleasant stay at the Sanctuary. Booking was smooth, all members of the staff we encountered were smily and helpful and the little house was clean, well maintained and comfortable. Worth every penny. The shared pool was clean and much a comfort after an exhausting tour in the day. After visiting Central Ubud, we were very glad that we decided to stay a bit outskirt to avoid the chaos. It's easy to get around by motorbike - which we rented via the help of the staff. I also recommend browsing through the advertisement pamphlets for tours and restaurants in the welcoming folder. We booked our cycling tour and elephant safari tour and had a great time! Ubud has a lot more motorbikes and despite some reasonable distance from the main road, we could hear some motorbike noise during the night. But it didn't bother us or affect our sleep. All in all I would think the location balances convenience and quietness pretty well.
We stayed at Desa Sanctuary during the BaliSpirit Festival and had a great time! The room is spacious and aesthetically furnished, and the whole place really is a sanctuary of calm in busy Ubud. It was in a great location for walking to and from the open air concert area at ARMA just up the road, and in perfect contrast to the noise and high energy environemnt fo the festival. The staff were very kind and helpful, and we felt very safe. A morning swim in the clean pool followed by a tasty fresh breakfast and plenty of privacy made for great starts to the day, and we danced so much each night that we never heard the dogs bark or the roosters crow. ;) Definitely recommend this lovely little sanctuary for short or longer stays in Ubud, and it would indeed be suitable for inspired writing! During a hunger crisis we also found out that there is a Warung nearby that delivers amazing Indonesian food right to your room (we've lived in Indo for 3 years and have not had such great food for that price yet!). What's not to love!?
We really enjoyed our stay at the Desa Santuary. The room was great, a good bed, AC works great, quiet, nice pool, nice poolside lounge chairs, but what made it super was the warm, friendly hospitality. The staff there are extra friendly but not intrusive. Always helpful with good English. We had Nanget drive us around to all the big attractions, and he was a great driver and a wonderful guide. It was really good value for the money. Highly recommended! Get a scooter, walking is difficult for lack of sidewalks, and it's easier than it may look, and 50,000 ($5) per day is well worth it.
Booked this place after a frightful stay in a place in Ubud. I was with my girlfriend and we were so relived to be in a new spot that was so nice. The room was fantastic and we loved all cool Bali art touches like the big buddah over the bed. The staff was fantastic and took care of our every need. This place is a bit outside of Ubud but its fine if you rent a scooter. Plus staying outside of town is a lot nicer and quieter.
I would stay again in this place for sure. David and Brenda are fantastic as well and really made us feel at home. Recommended!
David and Brenda's place was a fantastic place to stay in Ubud. Their staff was incredibly welcoming and cooked us a delicious breakfast each morning. I would definitely recommend staying here and would come back again!
We really liked this place - the room is really spacious and having the kitchenette was handy. It also seemed like it would be the most private one on the grounds (which are lovely). The only tip I would perhaps offer is that this place is definitely not as hard to find as the airbnb instructions would make out and we had some grief trying to follow them and contact their driver with the language barrier. As long as you happen to have a smart phone and the map from the main website for this place you'll likely be fine - it's signed on the main road. Once we arrived at this place everything was great and I would definitely recommend staying here. As for walking to town - as long as you don't mind gauntlets of barking dogs you can cross the main road and walk up a side street until the sidewalk starts on the main road to Ubud - for those like us who don't want to rent scooters.
Desa Sanctuary was a wonderful start to our stay in Bali. It is a small, friendly complex ni Penokesan, Ubud. A convenient location when coming from the airport on the outskirts of Ubud. It is in a very quiet location even though the 20min walk into Ubud is a little rough without footpaths. Nevertheless always interesting sights of daily life along the way !! Our rom was 'Writer's Fav', a room comfortable enough for 2 people to spend the day in if desired. Beds were comfortable. Staff were able to organise anything that was required. Breakfast delicious and generous. Lovely pool surrounded by gorgeous trees and flowers.
Dave and Brenda's place was exactly what we were looking for while staying in artistic Ubud.
A little east of city center, they provided scooter, breakfast and clean, relaxing abodes. We made use of the daily breakfast and pool in the middle of the vegetated courtyard. The staff was very accommodating to all of travel questions and needs. I would stay here again with no question.
This is the final rate, including any fees from the host and Airbnb.
